Car Accelerates On Its Own Problems of Ford Crown Victoria

I was driving straight on a highway- route 2 in massachusetts. After tapping on the brakes to begin the process of slowing down, the Crown Victoria- on it's own- began to accelerate at the same time. It was sudden and unintended acceleration. At that point, I slammed as hard as I could onto the brake pedal- to the point where the brakes were smoking. The engine overwhelmed brakes and I could not stop the vehicle- I could only slow it down. I ended up rear ending the vehicle in front of me (which had come to a stop). Even after the impact, the Crown Victoria continued to push against the vehicle in front of me. Then, just as suddenly as it started, the full bore acceleration stopped. I had a perfect driving history prior to this malfunction. No accidents ever. I had ample space and time to safely stop my vehicle. There was no problem with mats. I am not suing Ford. I am not trying to avoid the surcharge. I can't offer you tangible proof that there was a sudden unintended acceleration in my 2008 Ford Crown Victoria- other than my truthful testimony. I recently bought the vehicle and, until that one incident, it was running normally. It was running normally in the days after the accident. I had a "wrench" light come on once, a couple of weeks earlier but it was gone the next time I started up the car. So I dismissed it. The damage was relatively minor and I have full collision. I considered the car so unsafe to drive, however, that I took it off the road and gave it away. I warned the person I gave it to that the vehicle was unsafe and should be used only for parts. What I am saying is the truth and it is consistent with what I told the motorist I struck at the time of the accident.

The contact owns a 1995 Ford Crown Victoria. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated to 85 mph. The contact applied the brakes but the vehicle did not respond. The contact had to shut the vehicle off while in drive in order to stop the vehicle. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign I. D. Number 08v051000 (vehicle speed control) and called the dealer, who stated that the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact did not have a diagnostic test performed on the vehicle. The failure mileage was 181,000.

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria. While driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The contact depressed the brake pedal so firmly that the tires began smoking. The brakes would not stop the vehicle. The contact shifted into neutral to stop the acceleration. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the brake deactivation switch was replaced. The contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer. The current and failure mileages were 108,774.

2008 Ford Crown Victoria. Consumer states unintended acceleration and no response to brake pedal. The consumer stated when he attempted to apply the brakes to make a turn, the vehicle did not stop and the engine began to rev at a high rate. He had to pump the brakes in order to get the vehicle to stop. The consumer stated the same problem has since happened a second time. The dealer was unable to find a problem. Updated 09/22/jb.

: the contact stated the vehicle accelerated suddenly without warning on three occasions. The first incident occurred while driving at an undetermined speed, but was not reported to the manufacturer. The second incident occurred while pulling up to a stop light at 35 mph, the vehicle accelerated without warning into the intersection. The vehicle stopped only after the ignition was turned off. After the second incident the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced a solenoid, but it was unknown whether the solenoid was in the engine or brake system. The dealer only replaced the solenoid in an attempt to remedy the problem, but offered no guarantee the solenoid would remedy the problem. The third incident occurred while pulling into the garage at 2 mph with the brake pedal depressed. The vehicle accelerated without warning and crashed into the garage wall. Again, the vehicle did not stop until the ignition was turned off. The vehicle has not been returned to the dealer for further inspection.

While merging from a secondary road the 2005 Ford Crown Victoria (police car) accelerated suddenly which caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. Acceleration continued and the vehicle did not respond despite the brakes being applied. The vehicle swerved out of control, struck a median and drove off the road into a snow bank. The vehicle sustained front end damage and a bent frame.

While parking vehicle experienced sudden acceleration when shiftiting from drive. As a result the consumer's vehicle collided with two other vehicles which damaged front end.

While coming to a stop vehicle suddenly accelerated. Consumer was not able to stop vehicle. Vehicle hit a pedestrian/ a parked vehicle, and a tree before coming to a stop. Pedestrian was injured, damage to vehicle was $ 3400. 00. Since the accident vehicle had accelerated on its own 3 more times.
