2 Wheel problem of the 2004 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 01/03/2021

The good year eagle sport tires tore apart on a short trip to the grocery store and caused the car to be unsafe to drive. The tires were manufactured on June 2019 and purchased October 2019 and by January 3rd of 2021 they were flat and chewed up with only around 13,000 miles on them even though they were 50,000 mile tires. This complaint is involving the goodyear tires that were on the car and the one that failed and was chewed up despite low miles and recently manufactured/made within the last 19 months prior to this happening. It should be noted that after the tire was discovered chewed up the brake system was in need of repair as the tire caused damage. The brakes were not responsive to stopping after the tire was chewed up even though there was some braking power when brake pedal was pushed down to the floor, the braking power was reduced and the brake light on the car came one. That is to say that the tire failure damaged some of the braking componenets in the vehicle. Dot c0x3 2e1r 0619.

5 Wheel problem of the 2003 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 04/28/2016

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 03v279000 (wheels) however, the parts to do the repair was not available. The dealer inspected the vehicle however, the technician informed the contact that the vehicle was not defective. The contact stated after driving the vehicle approximately 10,000 miles they noticed the rear passenger rim had a crack. The vehicle was returned to the dealer where they diagnosed that the due to the vehicle no longer being in law enforcement the recall did not apply to the model. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 170,400.

6 Wheel problem of the 2004 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 04/02/2016

The contact owns a 2004 Crown Victoria. The contact stated that the vehicle had three manufacturer recalls that needed to be completed by the dealer; however, they were not completed within a reasonable time frame. The dealer was notified several times that the wheel wells had a premature leak of air and that the tires had to constantly be refilled with air. The manufacturer and the dealer indicated that because the contact was not a government official, they were not required to complete the recall repair for one of the three recalls. The contact indicated that the dealer was to schedule the repairs for the other two recalls and was uncertain of when the wheels would be either replaced by the dealer or an independent repair shop. The tires had not yet been replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure more than twice. The failure mileage was not available.

7 Wheel problem of the 2004 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 03/09/2016

Ford recall for cracks in police interceptor wheels that was cancelled and removed from oasis database if wheels are not on a law enforcement vehicle any longer. Wheel is marked with the numbers of the defective ones and has a visible crack and creaks and won't hold a balance and wobbles while driving on highway and looses air . Wheel is unsafe in any usage and will eventually fail at any given point in time weather police or private and should be replaced by Ford under recall regardless of any prior notes. Recall work was started but not completed as all wheels were replaced but one before being sold to me by russia police department, since the other wheels were found to be defective this last wheel is no different and should be replaced under recall as its unsafe to use. Ford still covers unsafe steering linkage and light modules regardless of ownership yet refuses to replace an unsafe wheel that can eventually cause an accident and harm to the driver and any other vehicle nearby as well. A safety defect should be taken care of regardless of ownership. I was able to do a screen capture of the recall that was not fully completed before Ford removed it from oasis after learning it was privately owned now.

8 Wheel problem of the 2003 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

These particular wheels on the Crown Victoria police interceptor were known to crack, and leak air, causing an accident. They were recalled by Ford, but the police department that purchased this vehicle, yavapai-apache police in camp verde, az, never had them replaced. I am constantly adding air to my tires. Luckily I haven't had a blowout. I would settle for a used set of stock wheels(12 hole type) to replace the current 8 hole type, since I still have the original hubcaps on the vehicle.

9 Wheel problem of the 2010 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 10/29/2015

I was traveling southbound on I-75, just north of it's exit with I-4, and south of its exit to martin luther king blvd. , at approximately 65 mph. I was in the far left thru lane when suddenly, and with no warning whatsoever, the right rear tire blew out, causing my 2010 Crown Victoria to fishtail on I-75 and, I believe, to be struck by a semi-truck which continued south. My car spun and came to rest on the opposite side of the interstate. I sustained injury to my neck, mid back and low back. I sustained a loss of consciousness and head injury. This tire was placed on the 2010 Crown Victoria by maintenance personnel at gulf coast transportation, inc. , 1701 w. Cass street, tampa, florida 33606, on 10/27/15. The accident and/or blow out occurred on 10/29/15. The blown out tire was replaced by gulf coast maintenance personnel on 10/30/15, 12:15 pm, as shown in the attached photograph. Gulf coast is, or should be, in possession of the blown out tire and is being placed on notice to retain the blown out tire for your investigation.

10 Wheel problem of the 1998 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 01/07/2015

I was a professional mechanic and went to school for it also with over ten years experience in the field ! this is the story I decided to replace upper and lower ball joints and outer tie rod ends with upper control arm bushings and wheel bearing hub assembly's all at the same time to avoid a vehicle breakdown like what just happened ! the car had about 54000 miles on it when I did this with me knowing these parts were about to go out due to wear before 75000 miles at the latest from experience on average ! but this is the complaint and concern ! my lower passenger front ball joint separated at about 84000 miles on the car which is only thirty thousand miles of life on this ball joint ! not reassuring at the least ! even under extreme driving I have found ball joints to last at least 50000 miles before going bad ! the ball joint is a drive works brand part #dw-k8685 advance auto parts brand but here is the strange part they do not know who makes their parts even when you call their 1-800 # are these parts tested or built to federal safety standards these ball joints if they separate on the freeway can kill people this is a serious subject ! I was blessed this ball joint separated at about 20 miles an hour ! can they be tested or recalled !.

11 Wheel problem of the 1997 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 09/12/2014

A recall on Ford Crown Victoria 1996-1999 built from March 15 1996 - December 14 1998 at the st. Thomas assembly plant were produced with a lower control arm ball joint containing a one piece bearing. The lower control arm ball joint separation had reported incidents. After speaking with Ford it is unknown why my vehicle that was built during time frame at the st thomas assembly plant was not included on the recall. It should of been. After speaking with Ford it is unknown why it was not included. The parts mentioned above failed and nearly causing a accident lucky that I was not traveling at a high speed when incident took place. I addressed the safety issues for vehicles that failed to be included. Ford advised me that there was no reporting agency that could add my vehicle. There was every bit of proof that indeed it should of been included on that list. The agent verified my vehicle information and had no reason of why it had not been included. If you have a vehicle built between the above time frame. At the assembly plant mentioned in this recall. Make sure that take action regarding these parts to avoid serious accidents. Error was made on that recall.

12 Wheel problem of the 2009 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 01/20/2014

This was a police interceptor vehicle traveling at a speed of between 55 and 60mph. The right front wheel bearing had seized up and burnt the tire down until it blew, causing the vehicle to swerve into the ditch. Luckily the driver is okay and there was nobody on the shoulder of the road.

13 Wheel problem of the 2004 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 11/30/2013

Beginning in summer 2013, steering became noticeably tighter when making slow speed turns. November 2013 the vehicle was brought to a Ford dealership to have an alignment due to tires continuously wearing on inside walls, which I suspect is due to the steel wheel recall (NHTSA campaign number: 07v079000) but Ford will not honor if the car is in private posession. After the vehicle was serviced, I was advised the steering shaft was severely corroded. Upon research, I discovered other owners experincing the same issues. Ford issued a recall (Ford recall #13s08) to inspect and replace the upper and lower steering shaft only for 2005-2011 models. The dealership advised me to contact Ford directly, and I did. I expressed my concerns that this in an immediate safety concern and feel that it should be included in the recall. I was advised by Ford that they spoke with the service manager at my dealership and verified that my car is indeed having issues that are exactly like the recall included. I was told that my car was not included in a recall and that they would keep my information on file for them to review in the event of a future recall. I am having an independent mechanic replace the upper and lower shaft as soon as possible because of the high chance it could become disengaged and render the vehicle inoperable. I strongly urge the NHTSA to investigate this and other cases of 2004 Crown Victoria (cvpi) owners who complain of both the steering issue and the recall that Ford fails to fix on the steel wheels. The vehicle is no longer in fleet use, but that does not make the underlying problem of the defective steel wheels not the responsibility of Ford. They need to inspect and replace the wheels just as they would for any other recall regardless of the current owner, how a recall should work.

14 Wheel problem of the 2003 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

I have a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria. I am having issues with the electrical system. I only have 2 speeds on my wipers. Either the second intermiten, or full speed. While on full speed, if I turn on the left turn signal, the wipers stop. A while back, my horn would just honk on its own. The worst, which made me take out the fuse, was at 3:30am one night the horn just wouldn't stop. I was asleep in the house. The windows work, sometimes. I can roll down the passenger window with the drivers side button, but have to reach across the car to roll it up with the other door switch. My lights, that are supposed to come on automatically when it's darker outside, seem to be on no matter what time of day it is. I know it is an old car, but for so many things that are wired through the electrical system, it makes me think that part of that is one of your recalls. I tried searching by VIN, but it kept telling me to enter a valid VIN. I checked it again, wrote it down twice, and tried again. I also noticed that you have a recall on the wheels for this car as well. I have replaced the tires 4 times, and the valve stems twice. For three years now, I have driven on bad, or new tires off and on. I thought the rim was bent, but read that there is a recall on steel rims that crack causing air seeping out. I really would like to have this examined. That, and along with the issues, is why I am installing a complaint to you. Down below, when it asks for when it happened, I am not sure. It has been going on so long, I'm not sure when I noticed it exactly. But the horn was close to the date below. Everything has happened since then. Thank you for your time, and hope for a quick resolution to this complaint.

16 Wheel problem of the 2003 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 08/20/2012

Have been driving the car back and forth to work under normal conditions. Then realized the car had a flat, then took to the local tire shop. Where they informed me the tire was fine, but the wheel had split at the connection weld(making it no good). Found out Ford had a recall, I went to my local Ford dealer where they explained it was a defect and would be replaced if it was a current police vehicle. Where it is not cause I own it, they said they can not perform the recall. Now tell me how am I not anymore important than our police officials? my family is at safety risk, along with myself, and others on the road, because the wheel could split and cause and accident! so tell me why wont Ford stand behind there recalled product?.

20 Wheel problem of the 2003 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 03/02/2010

Dealer, who I had bought the car from and who had been servicing it, said bearing noise in r/r (mileage 44850). Repaired it for $694. 57 dollars. Police and fleet crownvics were manufactured at the same time in the same plant in canada and were recalled for wheel bearing and axle problems via Ford recall number 04s16. Dealer said recall only applied to fleet vehicles so I had to pay for the work. Ford customer relations simply sent me back to the dealer. Is there any possibility the l/r bearing/axle may fail? shouldn't the dealer/Ford consider this vehicle as part of the original recall? you have a number of complaints similar to mine on your website under different headings such as axle assembly, suspension rear, power train, axle shaft for the same model, year of manufacture, place of manufacture and low mileage. Just what role does your organization have in these situations? I had tried to get satisfaction in this matter much earlier but with the recent interest in safety recalls I thought I'd try again. Thank you for your consideration of my concerns.

22 Wheel problem of the 2004 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 10/28/2009

Received a recall letter from Ford regarding a 2004 crown victory that I acquired 08/09 as a former police cruiser. Letter stated I had to get this car to a dealer ASAP as this was an 07 recall that had not been completed. The letter clearly states defective wheels must be replaced or onus is on me for any future failures regarding this recall. I called the customer service number on letter and they explained that the wheels (special for police) have been known to develop cracks and split open further at some point in time. I advised that I was a private citizen and car was not a police vehicle any longer & they said it mattered not, and must be replaced. They gave me a dealer name & number which I promptly called the next day. Dealer had little info on this so I gave them the recall number and explained what I was told and what letter said, dated oct '09. Dealer declined to order parts and said they would not repair under recall since it was no longer in police use. I then called cs again and they agreed this time with dealer. I escalated to customer relations which was no help whatsoever. I explained to them that Ford had contacted me, the letter did not say to disregard if no longer used as a police vehicle, only that this was a hazard and needed to get done. I asked for a letter of explanation as to how it was safe for me to drive as a private citizen if it was not safe for police and they refused, but did tell me it "should" be ok. The recall number & description reads 07s48-16" steel wheel replacement. I can fax a copy of letter if you require, but Ford is adamant in refusal to do anything after sounding the alert to me and putting me in a potentially unsafe situation, plus clearly stating I am responsible if anything happens and I have ignored the letter.
