The contact owns a 2004 Ford E-450. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the brakes suddenly engaged independently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The mechanic stated that the aluminum pucks in the braking system expanded when heated, causing the brakes to engage. The mechanic recommended replacing the aluminum pucks with steel ones. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
