Transmissions 6r140 have premature failure this is our 6th transmission to go out in our 5 vans, when transmission goes out, the torque converter fails which results in vehicle stalling in road way the vehicle while jerk really hard and give drive whiplash and when vehicle is going up hill when the torque converter fails the van will slam to a stop, stall then start rolling backwards or forwards with no brakes or powersteering. When this happens driver has no breaks or powersteering and most times this has happened the driver cant quickly restart the van to regain powersteering or brakes because the torque converter is stuck and wont allow starter to turn over engine. This vehicle had a new transmission put in by Ford January 2022 and it is now August 2022 and this transmission has also failed and presented the same safety situation with stalling and jerking. Ford is set to replace the transmission again and told by dealer these transmissions should be recalled due to this constant failure in all vans and trucks equipped with the 6r140 (Ford f-250, f-350 and e-350, E-450).

2017 Ford E-450 sd with the 6. 2l v8 gas engine paired with 6speed automatic transmission. Transmission specifically the torque converter fails prematurely causing the vehicle to stall while driving making the van disabled in road way or intersections. The vehicle when the torque converter failed would slam and jerk the driver foward and sometimes make the van feel like the breaks were applied extremly hard while moving through traffic. When this happens the vehicle would stall and the driver would have no power steering or brakes!! vehicle was parked on hill when the torque converter failed the second time the vheicled stalled out in traffic 3 times then again when on a hill the torque converter went out and started jerking the van back and fourst then started to roll backwards. This has happened to 4 of my fleet vehicles some of them two times. Some have failed as low as 20,000 miles. This has put myself and employees at extreme risk and can cause neck injury. Ford dealership service department employees informed me this should be a recall because of how ofter these transmission torque converters are going out. Example: driver driving 55mph when on freeway and torque converter unlocked then locked causing the van to jerk back and fourth and slow down tremly fast while moving on the freeway. Loss of brakes power steering.

Vehicle lost power and stopped running while moving at a speed of 55 mph. Vehicle dangerously skid to a complete stop in the middle of a busy highway, unable to drive onto shoulder. Had to be towed into dealership. Vehicle purchased on 06/14/2005 for $58,000, incident happened 07/08/2005, and vehicle is still in shop as of 08/01/2005. The vehicle only had 3,700 miles on it when this happened. Dealership said the torque converter went out. This vehicle was to be used to transport tourist safely to and from our tour location. I purchased this new vehicle for reliability and safety. It is neither reliable nor safe. After viewing this website I found that I am not the only person with a complaint about a defective torque converter, transmission, etc. On a 2005 Ford e450 with less than 4,000 miles on it. This is totally unacceptable.

Truck lost power and stopped running. Had to be towed into dealership. They found a small pin that lets the gears change broke and also the torque converter went out. Ford would not send them a new transmission and made them rebuild the old one. Torque converter on back order - estimated delivery date was February 25. Our problem occurred on January 12. The truck only had 3,600 miles on it when this happened. This is totally unacceptable.
