Ford E-450 owners have reported 2 problems related to brake fluid (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford E-450. When attempting to have the brake fluid service performed, it was discovered that the reservoir cap indicated dot 3 brake fluid was in the vehicle. The owner's manual indicated that the brake fluid for that vehicle was type dot 4 brake fluid. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not serviced due to the confusion. The contact was concerned that due to the two different types of brake fluid labeling, it could potentially cause a brake failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the brake fluid type was unknown, but would call the contact back with an answer. The failure mileage was 3,400.

On the down hill side of a bridge in jacksonville, FL and in heavy traffic, the brakes were applied but would not release. Smoke poured out and the brakes were cooked on all four wheels. I then had no brakes. I limped out of traffic and spend the night in my RV- with an unpleasant oder. The next day I had some braking power and limped to garber automall Ford dealership for repairs.
