Tire Tread/belt Problems of Ford Econoline

Driving north on I 275 just south of I 94 and tire separated on right rear called aaa because rim was on the ground. Vehicle was a Ford conversion van. Replaced with spare, and still have old tire. Tire size is 30x9. 50r 15 discoverer ast. 8jb.

A firestone tire on the front of our company van delaminated. It was about 1 year old and is not on any recall list. I have pictures along with the damage done to the truck. Luckly no one was injured. The vehicle was doing 65 mph at the time. The tire never went flat.

While driving about 60 mph right front tire had a sudden tread separation , but tire never went flat. Consumer had eperienced a tread separation on another tire in left rear with same brand and type. Ford, Econoline, 1997, p-245/75r16 dot# mk11jnhv4100. Good year tires.

The first incident occurred 4/14/01 on the way back to florida from PA. We were on I-77 traveling approx. 60 mph. When a noticeable vibration started. We slowed down and pulled off at the next exit. On inspection the left inside duel had experienced separation of tread from the tire. Tire pressure had been set at manufacturer's recommended pressure. The tire appeared to hold air pressure. Upon arriving home we took pictures of the tire and returned it to our firestone dealer who pro-rated it. Yesterday (6/17/01 we experienced the same problem with the right side inside duel. This time the tire would not hold any air pressure. Our mileage on this tire was 19,126. We find it odd that we have not experienced this kind of problem with other rigs we have owned. We are very concerned about the other 4 tires since we are planning an extended long distance vacation in July. We have not been able to find these tires on any recall list. Pe-00-020- replacement tires, size p23575r15, dot started with w2hl, tires have no more than twenty thousand miles on them. When driving at 40-45 mph consumer noticed vehicle started shaking, pulled off road, and noticed passenger's side rear tire tread had separated. Firestone wilderness at tires.

While driving, right rear dual firestone steeltex tire experienced sidewall separation, p225/75r15, dot vd111xe207.

This the second tread separation within the past 6 month that has occurred to orig equip firestone tire on this vehicle. At time of this incident vehicle was carrying 8 adults plus luggage; max capacity is 15. Tire did not strike any object or break in pavement. Tire was properly inflated. Tread separated completely from the tire body, exposing the bare steel belt. (dot number: vd1l1xa406 tiresize: 225/75r16e).

Pe00 020; consumer was traveling 35mph on a highwayand heard a noise. She was able to pull over to shoulders, and noticed that right rear tire tread had separated. Tire was firestone,#lt, 225-75r16 m/f. There were no injuries.

Firestone lt225/75r16 (load range e) tire tread failure at highway speed on the right rear (dual) of a Ford class "c" 30 ft motorhome. All tread came off. Tire remained inflated but leaking and riding on the steel belts. Tire inflation checked before every long road trip and adjusted for 80 psi. Feel free to contact me for any further information. Incident 1- occurred on may 20,2000. The front driver side tire stipped and peeled off while traveling on the highway. There was a big blow out sound and the car swayed but was safely pulled over. It caused considerable damage to the left front side. Firestone was notified. They processed the claim and paid for the repairs. The tire was sent back to them. Incident 2-- occured recently on Jul 31 2000. The back tire on the drivers side stripped and blew out in a similar pattern while driving on a local steet. Firestone was again notified. They asked the tire be taken to a local dealer. We requested that they replace all the remaining tires us we feared driving with the remaining tires. Firestone declined to replace it but said would prorate it to the tread wear. We did not accept that us we feel that the tires were originally defective. Please inform us about any previous incidents similar to this if it exsisit. We still have two of those tires on the van. Please let us know of any exsisting problem so that we can take precautions. Noticed a tire separation defect during pre trip inspection, removed tire from service. (dot number: vd1l 1xd tiresize: lt22575r16).

I have suffered two complete tread separations on two firestone fr480 tires, size 235/75r15xl. These were replacement equipment on my 1996 Ford Econoline 150 custom van. Both were rear mounted at the time of failure and had appropriate inflation presuure (around 38 psi). Both failures occured on interstate at moderate speeds (60 - 65 mph) in the evening after the heat of the day. First failure occured 10/21/1999. The second failure occured 7/25/00. These tires are the same size and were manufactured at the same factory as the recalled firestone atx and wilderness tires. My data suggests that other tire models of this size produced at this illinois plant may have been defective also. ( dot number: vdhl tire size: 235/75r15x ).

Firestone firehawk tire (p255/70 r15) experienced tread separation, consumer is requesting reimbursement.

Pe00020, original equipment on 1996, Ford super duty, tire size lt22575r16, dot vd1l1xa475,steel tex rs4. On April 17, 1999, while driving rear passenger's tire tread came off which almost caused a crash. On July 24, 2000 with 22 miles, while driving there was a flapping noise due to driver's rear tire tread coming off which caused damage to wheelwell. Firestone unwilling to help.

3 firestone steel radial r4s tires p225/75r16 tires experienced failure, 2 tires peeled and 1 tire split, even though consumer was rotating tires, wear still occurred, consumer switched brands of tires and has had no other problems, dot vd1l.

I have lost 3 tires to tread separation one at 4000 miles and the others at about 12000 miles. I have had to replace 2 others due abnormal tread wear and vibration before the vehicle had 16000 miles on it.
