2 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2007

It was at night and the headlights were in automatic mode. I went to turn the high beams on by pulling the lever towards me (the lever should be pushed away in this car but I was used to my work van where I pull the lever), and the high beams just flashed on and then the headlights went completely out and my wife and I were in complete darkness driving 45 mph.
