general problems of the 2008 Ford Edge

Rear tail light bulbs are melting, several times now, after doing research it seems to be happening to a lot of people, so I see it as a safety issue. My turn signal went out and went to replace it and discovered the bulb was melted into the socket. (this happened three times now, I'm trying to figure out the issue. (it may be a factory electrical design fluke)also ive began to lose gas andvit is not remaining in the gas tank. It has caused my gas light to come on. Which triggered the check engine light to come on as well. This happened on or about 12/15/2020. Then the bearings an began to shake and wobble badly. From the contaminates amd salts. I am really having difficulties with my vehicle and im in meed of help badly. Now as of 1/5/2021 my car has started to fish tail showing the sway bar is giving out.

I was driving to my mothers house on 11/10/19. Whole is was driving on route 1a my air bag exploded and it caused me to crash and it totaled my car. The news reporters came to the seen it aired for 2 days on channel 5 news. There has been a recall on my air bags since 2017 and Ford didn't have the parts to my car to fix the issue they also didn't have the parts in 2018 as well and Ford just place another recall on my vechile as well in February 2019 for the air bags again. This issue almost cost me my life. The town the accident took place was in walpole, MA on main street.

Right wheel well vibrates when I turn and drive over50 miles hour transmission jerks like its not engaging to next gear from a stop or when driving under mph back left brake light burns out every other day . In making a right hand turn, the steering wheel became uncontrollable and impossible to straighten out causing the vehicle to continue in its turning radius and crash into a sign on the sidewalk. The vehicle was transported to a salvage yard. I am of the belief that the ball joint failed. We have always maintained the car at Ford authorized dealerships and even replaced the ball joints recently. This car has a propensity for failing ball joints. Takata recall I smell gas coming from my car ever since got from car lot automaxx and the transmission is acting up as well as the suspension too. It's overheating on me and haven't even had the car 2 months. The recall has been on going o. N this car for years they're is still 2 recalls open on my car. I never should of been sold this car because never has gotten the ok from the formal problems its had in the past. Now I'm scared going to catch on fire while driving.

Tl- the contact inquired about a recall on the 2008 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 20 the vehicle had difficulty shifting and reduced power when acceleration. The failure happened without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle failure mileage was 130,000. The VIN was not provided. Kh.

Vehicle lost all power while driving in traffic and steering locked when turning the corner at intersection causing loss of control of vehicle. This has happened on several occasions under random conditions. Weather conditions, vehicle temperature, speed, direction, braking or acceleration does not have any factors when this happens. The vehicle shuts off randomly and power is lost. No codes or warning of any kind. Ford factory has investigated, wiring harness to the mass airflow sensor has been replaced but still continues to have the same problem.

On Saturday, November 16th. Between the hours of 5pm and 7pm, while driving, we were heard a "popping" noise from the front of the car. We also noticed the windshield cracking and thought the noise was from the window cracking. When we arrived home, the car was in the garage sitting and we heard the car "pop" again. The same thing happened Sunday while going to church and home. Monday morning on the 19th, my wife parked in the school parking lot to attend a school meeting and when she came out, the hood was up and the front was popped up. We took it to the local Ford dealer and they indicated that the strut tower failed. The mechanic indicated I would not be able to drive it because it was a safety risk. They were surprised that my wife was able to drive and glad that it did not totally fail. It was indicated that the metal on the frame of the strut tower fatigued and it caused the strut tower to pop up. I have pictures if anyone would like it. The vehicle mileage at the time of incident is an estimate. It may be a little less.

Around 57,900 miles, a clicking sound appeared whenever the wheel was turned to the left more than half way. The sound became progressively louder over the next few weeks. The sound only occurred in left turns and the sound came from the right front. The problem was diagnosed as a failed bearing in the right cv shaft. Replacement of the shaft cost $600. According to the shop, this is an unusual failure for a car of this mileage.

My wife was driving the vehicle and upon acceleration from a complete stop, the vehicle randomly would go into a "neutral-like" state. Rpms would increase dramatically, but the car would crawl between 3-5mph. The message, "od read error" would display on the dashboard, power steering would go out and brakes would not respond well (it was as if the car had turned off). When shifting from drive to park or reverse, the vehicle would jerk forward violently, as if rear-ended. Once the car was turned off and started again, the problem would go away. We brought the vehicle to the dealership multiple times and the dealership even determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. This was only at 37,600 miles. The dealer said it was a transmission issue, but it appears to be an on-board computer issue as well. After transmission was replaced, 5 weeks later had issue with shifting into first gear. Vehicle shifted very hard into first gear. Car is back down at the dealership again. Wrote a letter to Ford expressing my concern and requested the car be repurchased, they denied my request.

Events leading up to failure: was driving car at a very slow rate of speed (less than 5 mph) making a right hand turn into a commercial shopping center. Failure: upon making turn, I heard a "pop" noise. After trying to accelerate the vehicle, it would not move. I got out of the car and noticed that the wheel had become detached from the axle and was only attached to the vehicle by the strut. Bearings had fallen out of the related components and the wheel was at approximately a 60% angle with the pavement (other wheel was fine and was perpendicular to pavement). Correction of failure: towing truck responded and the vehicle is currently being serviced under the manufacturers warranty. Initial report from the service team is that it is most likely manufacturer defect. I have been told that all parts related in accident will be replaced or refurbished to maintain 100% working order.
