1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2020

The car accelerated while I was braking while parking on the street, this problem is reoccurring. I also constantly get a warning that my car is overheating while the bar line is on cold. I tried putting anti freeze and it doesn't help. The car also turned off at a green light when I turned on my air conditioner. Lastly I got a warning that my oil pressure is low although I just got an oil and filter change the day before. Please do a recall for these things. I have a child and it is very unwise to put him in any danger by being in this car.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2019

Shows open. Something went wrong with abs system while drving didnt stop right away . Had to stop and wait before brake system became fuctionable .

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2018

I've had several breaking issues since buying the car earlier 2018. I wish I would have researched the brake issues with the 2011 Edge I would have chose a different vehicle. It was very slick out and my husband slid through a stop light when the brakes failed. They were soft and spongy and went straight to the floor. We change the brake pads paid a mechanic to change the master cylinder not once but twice because we continue to have soft brakes. Had a mechanic bleed the brakes saying are was in the lines still an issue. The booster has been replaced with the recall and they will not replace it a second time. Now they want to replace the hydraulic control unit. The quote is $1,650. My husband has been scared to death to drive the vehicle and I am not allowed due to the faulty braking. We have ran off the road twice by people stopping suddenly and not being able to break.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2018

Stalls and won't accelerate while going down the road. Just idles real rough. Can only coast to a stop. Can't steer. Wrench comes on the display. Everything I have read said it is probably the throttle body. Has less than 40,000 miles.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2018

I was driving home from work at approximately 40 mph when an orange wrench popped on my screen and with no warning my car started jerking and sputtering and then quit working and completely decelerated like I had switched my car in neutral. I pressed the gas and nothing happened when I was in the middle of an intersection! I was able to get my car out of the roadway using some of my momentum but I was lucky I was not on an interstate or somewhere else. I was told my throttle body needs replacing. I looked into this issues with the 2011 Edge and apparently there was a notice put out on this throttle body in other vehicles for causing the same problem and leading to very dangerous situations, however mine wasn't included even though I had the exact same problem. I take great care of my car - oil changes every 5,000 miles and special maintenance when necessary and it doesn't even have 100,000 miles on it.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2018

I took a left turn to get onto the interstate on 7/30/18 at 7:45 am. When I started to accelerate to merge onto interstate without warning my car stalled and I was not able to accelerate. I was able to pull over thankfully and turn my emergency lights on. My car started to "jump" and was basically stalling out. I turned the car off and then after 5 minutes I was able to turn the car back on and it ran fine. I brought the car to my local Ford dealership and they kept it for two days. They tried to recreate the issue but were unable to and said they could not read the error on the computer because it had been "wiped" out when I restarted my car. They told me to come back when the car stalls again. I feel very unsafe driving a car that can stall out and lose power at any minute. I drive a 24 mile bridge with no shoulders daily and interstates. I do not feel safe driving my son around in this car. Ford will not do anything for me until the car stalls again. They told me not to turn it off and "limp" it to the dealership(drive it slowly).

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2017

Throttle body recall. Ford has replaced the throttle body twice already and my car is once again acting up. I press the gas and the car does not go. Has caused me to have some very close calls to getting into serious accidents. Brought my car into Ford once again and they cannot find the problem. I had stopped to take a left at a busy intersection, a truck was coming from the right. I go to press the gas and the car wouldn't go and then all of a sudden felt like it kicked into gear. I had rolled forward slightly and was nearly hit by this oncoming truck. The next time I pressed the gas to go, it went just fine.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2016

Car wil gradually slow down leading to a complete stop. Power to the engine seems to decrease and speed slows. Happened 4 times over several weeks. It would happen then an hour later car would be completely fine and drive ok for a few days and then happen again. Happened when the car was driving at 30-50 mph on normal city streets (not highway) we took it to the dealer, where they identified the throttle body as the cause of the issue. Our VIN is not eligible for the replacement program though; which we do not understand - meets the year/make/model and characteristics of issue. Ever since we purchased the car we have also had lingering electrical issues - separate of the throttle body, that no one has been able to identify -- drive door light says open and it's not, taillights randomly flash when car is off and no one is in car, etc. We are thinking this one was just a dud. We also own another Ford Edge 2014 model - no issues. Car is currently being repaired for the throttle body issue. We can provide receipts / info once we pick it up. Called Ford and they said that vehicles identified for the recall were based on date of manufacture and location - they must've missed us.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2016

While driving the SUV the the wrench light came on and vehicle went into limp mode and started sputtering in heavy traffic. Was able to pull to side of road but not able to drive vehicle.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2016

(on multiple occasions )my 2011 Ford Edge upon accleration the vehicle loses the abiltiy to acclerate - shudders and the check engine flashes or stays on. Supposedly could not find the "code" that caused it. I have had the vehicle into 2 different dealer ships - one replaced the transfer case, the other the catalytic converter and ignition coils- to the cost of over 600. 00 on a used certified vehicle. Less than a few days later same issue - back to dealer said it was a loose wire. I now drive the vehicle very tentatively and hope I don't have to accelerate quickly. The vehicle persists in the ability to not acclerate quickly ( usually at 55 mph or higher )without the engine light flashing or staying on. It also seems to happen most frequently on quick accleration --on ramp or getting up to freeway speed . It is very dangerous as this usually happens getting on or off the freeway or staying up with traffic, once the light goes on the vehicle shudders and will not accelerate today it will be 3 months first visit was oct 29 mileage was 68000 and has happened up to today multiple times and mileage is now 74000 the check engine light is on again back to Ford dealer again tomorrow.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2015

While driving in traffic on hwy 441 in mcintyre GA on Dec 8, 2015, my car all of a sudden loses acceleration and stalls. Despite the oncoming traffic I was able to let the car coast to the side of the hwy where it shut off. I tried several times to restart the car but it would only shut back off. On the dash message appeared reading low engine oil pressure however I'd just had the oil changed the day before. I called state farm roadside assistance and an officer was dispatched. The officer watched as I tried restarting the car several times. He also offered to check the oil and confirm the car was full of fresh oil. The closest repair shop was dispatched to tow my vehicle where it currently remains. I contacted Ford to advise about the issue and inquire if there were any recalls. I was quickly advised this would not be covered and there were no recall that would be associated with something like this happening. I decided to go online to check if other owners had same or similar and was very shocked to see the number of Ford vehicle owners describing the same and or very similar situations. The number of the conditions that described being in the middle of traffic is alarming as this could and eventually will cause serious injury or worse. Something needs to be done to resolve this issue. In many of the cases the problem happened multiple times despite being taken in for repair.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2015

While driving 40 mph on a busy road, the car slowed on its own and stopped. I was unable to steer this vehicle. I restarted it four times; it would go for about 100 feet and then slow down to a stop once again. I feel fortunate no one ran into me. I consider this a very dangerous situation. I had the car towed to a Ford dealership (the one I purchased the vehicle from). They kept it for an entire week, seldom calling me to report what was wrong. Today I went to pick it up. Nothing had been done. They indicated they ran a computer check and found nothing wrong. I told my service person I feared driving it and needed to know what was wrong. His reply: "it could be anything. We just can't find it. " the other gentleman who worked there told me they were unaware of any recalls with the throttle body (I'd asked repeatedly about this) and told me it was not his job to know about recalls. I fear if I continue driving this vehicle, the problem will continue and I'll be in harm's way.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2015

Was driving down highway and the powertrain malfunction warning came on. I was unable to drive the car just shutdown.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2015

My husband and I were driving home (going approximately 40 mph) with our 2 year old and all of the sudden the car lost power. It did not die but wouldn't go over 5 mph. Thankfully, we were close to home and not on a busy highway. If we had been on a busy highway I do believe it would have cause an accident and that terrifies me since this is our primary family vehicle. I have read that Ford extended the warranty for this issue but was not made to issue a recall. Unfortunately, Ford inc's "customer satisfaction program" for this issue expired in January 2015 so now I will be out the money to fix this extremely dangerous issue. Ford motor company should be made to issue a recall to fix this issue before it kills someone.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2015

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. While driving 35-40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure occurred twice. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 28,000.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2015

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. While driving approximately 55 mph, the speed decelerated independently with the illumination of the wrench warning light. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnosis, who confirmed the electronic throttle body failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer issued a special customer satisfaction program related to the electronic throttle body however, the vehicle was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2015

Driving down side road (thank heavens) lost all power, no speed control, coasting to stop in traffic. Small wrench signal showing awd off. Stopped car - re started car and had power. This has happened twice in the past two weeks as it just happened again today being September 6th 2015. Seeing many reports of this same experience on internet forum, showing replacing throttle body for the fix. Need to have re call and correct problems prior to serious accidents in high volume traffic. This is the Ford 3. 7 six cylinder engine in the 2011 Ford Edge. Internet shows this problem in many of the Ford vehicles. . . Very very dangerous. Please advise of current status or recall noptices. I have not heard of any recalls at this time. Thank you.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the vehicle stalled with the wrench indicator illuminating on the vehicles instrument panel as the failure occurred. The contact stated that the vehicle was able to restart, however the failure recurred shortly after about 10 miles down the road. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the diagnosis could not provided initially, however the contact later received the diagnosis that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 47,000. Wh.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2015

About 2-3 weeks ago, while driving in the outer banks, nc, I had a sudden loss of power in the vehicle and an yellow wrench sign came. Luckily, I was able to pull off the road and shut the car off. Once restarted, it worked ok. I went to cavalier Ford dealer at portsmouth, va and they could not find anything wrong. Since there was no recall or mention of this problem from Ford, I was told not to worry about it. Today, while driving with my wife and daughter, I had complete loss of power with the yellow wrench sign again. I had to pull on the wrong side of the road with hazard lights on. Again, we were lucky that we did not get hit. When restarted, I was able to drive back home and take my wife's car. I am taking the Ford Edge to the dealer again. I am letting you know that, when I googled for similar problems, there were plenty of complaints on this model vehicle. . Read more...

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2015

After pulling out onto the highway, car seemed to stall. Wrench light came on, engine was still running, however pushing the gas pedal did nothing. After coasting to a safer spot to pull over, I shut the engine off and started the car again. Drove a few miles down the road before it did the same thing again. Lucky that there wasn't any vehicles behind me to hit me. Glad I wasn't on the interstate, pulling out in traffic, or attempting to pass someone when this happened. I contacted Ford today after seeing csp13n03, which was because of the exact same problem, and was told that my VIN was not covered under this program. I then asked them who to appeal this to and they told me they have opened a case # for my reported problem but there wasn't anyone to appeal their decision to, whatever that may be or whenever that may finally come. In the meantime, I'm stuck without a vehicle to safely transport my children in until I can afford to have it fixed, while other vehicles whose VIN were covered under this program with the exact same troubles were covered. This customer service program (issued instead of a recall) needs to be extended to all vehicles Ford manufactured during the same time frame, as a quick internet search revealed hundreds of others in the same position I am in. It is a dangerous situation to put the lives of countless families in, and for no good reason!.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2015

Vehicle lost power pulling out in traffic (so glad I didn’t get hit), would not accelerate and the yellow wrench appeared on the instrument panel. Only way to correct problem was to restart engine (this happened 3 times trying to get home). The third time the service engine soon light came on and I was able to pull the codes and had a p2111 and a p2112. After looking into this issue it looks really common why would they not recall it like the Ford fusion?.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2015

The first time the problem occurred I was driving down a street and had slowed to make a left turn into a retail establishment. Just as I made the turn the vehicle shuddered slightly and immediately lost forward momentum - it was like the vehicle was in neutral - I had no acceleration. A wrench appeared on my driver's display. I was able to pull to a stop and I shut the vehicle off. After several minutes I attempted to start the vehicle. It took several seconds longer than normal for the vehicle to start but it did. The second occurrence happened in my work parking lot. I had backed my vehicle out of my parking place and just as I started to accelerate the vehicle shuddered slightly and I again lost any acceleration. I turned the vehicle off and restarted immediately. Again, it look slightly longer than normal for the vehicle to start. The third time I was driving 55 down a road when the vehicle suddenly lost momentum. Same deal with limping to the side of the road, praying this time that nothing was coming as the vehicle was only half off the road. It started with effort. In each occurrence the wrench appeared. This has all happened over a period of 13 days. I contacted a local Ford dealership Saturday and described the problem over the phone. The mechanic said he was very familiar with the problem - that it was the throttle body. I decided to do some online research and discovered complaint after complaint describing the same problem. I'm very disappointed in Ford for not making this problem more of a priority. Does there need to be a loss of life before something is done? we will be driving several states away in just a few weeks and I have absolutely no confidence in my vehicle. I certainly don't want to be traveling 75 miles an hour on a freeway when my vehicle suddenly decides it doesn't want to cooperate. Very, very disappointing.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2015

While driving down interstate 95 in virginia, a warning popped up on my dashboard, as the warning popped up my vehicle lost all acceleration, and I was unable to maintain a safe highway speed. The only thing I could do was stop my vehicle on the side of the road. I shut the vehicle off and started it back up, to try and move it to a safer location, in which the vehicle continued to lose all power. I finally made it to a safe location off of the interstate. I had a tow truck bring me to a local Ford dealership where I was told it was the throttle body which caused the issue in the car. I did some research online and found that there are many reports of this happening in Ford vehicles. This could have been a lot worse if my mother and father in law were not traveling behind my vehicle. My family could have been killed because of this malfunctioning part. Ford has no reports of this with their newer model vehicles nor do they warn their customers on what could happen if the throttle body malfunctions. Ford has a responsibility to their customers to warn them about this part.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2015

Our family was driving on a heavily traveled bridge at 40mph and the vehicle immediately lost all power and idled roughly, forcing us to travel on the bridge at just a few miles an hour with our four-way flashers on until we reached the side of the road. A wrench appeared on the computer screen with the message awd off. My husband turned the vehicle off and then back on and it ran fine until we drove it again and same thing happened. We are fearful for our safety and beg Ford to recall. I visited several websites and saw way too many consumers with this same serious safety issue. We are going to get it evaluated by a mechanic tomorrow and pray that we are able to safely drive it to the garage.

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

On several occasions the vehicle lost all acceleration and power to the engine. Yellow wrench showed there was a warning, and check engine light flashed, but upon turning off the car (the main electronics ie:radio/ac still worked) and restarting it resumed "normal" functions and driving. We had several times this happened to us. All of the occurrences happened in the middle of accelerating and at different speeds. Two were on residential roads, one was in a busy intersection, and one (the worst) was on the freeway 3 lanes over from the right shoulder going with the flow of traffic at 70mph. The dealership was unsuccessful n assisting with the problem because without a check engine light they were unable to diagnose the problem. But our latest incident, on September 11th, 2015 (this time the wrench and awd off flashed), the check engine light stayed on and it was diagnosed as a bad throttle body. This is more than dangerous it is a russian roulette of whether the car will work or not. . Read more...

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2015

For 2 years I've had problems with the transmission in my Ford Edge. I've had it into the dealship many times and they've miss diagnosted it a couple of times. I was driving down a highway and the transmission went out. No excelleration, nothing. After getting to the dealship the reverse, gear 5 & 6 and clutch were destroyed with only 60,128 miles on the vehicle. Ford will only allow the dealer to rebuild the transmission under the extended warrenty, instead of replacing it. Many others have experience this at the same amount of miles with escapes, spitfires, explorers and other Edges. I am asking for you to look into this further and possible issue a recall. The internet is loaded with complaints about the same issues and video to support what I had happen.

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2015

I was driving my 2011 Ford Edge on a busy road and lost all ability to accelerate. The engine jerked, then started shaking, wrench light came on the dash board. I would push the pedal and nothing would happen. Had to roll along with flashers on until I reached a parking lot entry to pull into, as there was no shoulder on the road I was on. Meanwhile, cars were speeding up behind me and passing my car into on coming traffic to avoid colliding with me. Once in the parking lot, I turned off the car, and immediately turned it back on (less than two seconds later), and everything was back to normal. Took the vehicle directly to the dealer and was told by their service technician that I needed a new throttle body and was no longer under warranty (vehicle had 57,000 miles).

31 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2015

We have had a problem with our Ford Edge going into limp mode while driving. Luckily it has been at low speeds so we were able to pull over and turn off vehicle. Il when this problem happens, it idles very roughly and it like it loses its mind. You cannot accelerate and a wrench pops up on the dash. When you turn off veichle and turn it back on, it's fine.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2014

Car suddenly lost speed and slowed to crawl while driving, issue is with the electronic throttle body.

33 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the wrench warning light and the message awd off illuminated as the vehicle decelerated. The contact mentioned that shortly after the vehicle stalled. After restarting the engine the vehicle operated as normal. The contact indicated that the failure had occurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 37,000. Pam.

34 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2014

This is the second time I have experienced a complete loss of acceleration. I brought my car to local Ford dealer about a month ago and they installed a software update and said that should fix the problem but the problem occurred again today. Luckily both times I was in a place where I was able to pull off the road. These are the symptoms: 1. Sudden and complete loss of acceleration while traveling at speed 2. Wrench icon showed up on the dashboard display 3. Coasted to stop and applied brake (car began to shake) 4. Shifted to park and shut car off 4. Restarted car and everything back to normal. The problem is that Ford states they cannot replicate it and once the car has been restarted the wrench icon and problem go away. They say that once the wrench icon goes away the computer doesn't store the error code and therefore will not show them the problem. They tell you to drive the car to the dealer while the wrench icon is still on the dashboard but that would be impossible unless it happened right next to the dealer.

35 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2014

While driving down a local 4-lane road, the 2011 Ford Edge lost power, became unresponsive to the accelerator pedal, and the "wrench" symbol appeared on the instrument panel. The car would still move forward (perhaps 5 mph or less), and we were able get the flashers on and to park on a side road. The situation was very difficult as we had to cross a lane of traffic at low speed, where traffic normally moves at 40-50 mph. After looking in this data base and at other internet sources, this problem seems to be relatively common to the Ford Edge, but we have not received a recall letter about it.
