While driving my 2011 Ford Edge in heavy traffic it suddenly loss all acceleration dropping down to a crawl. This loss of speed almost caused the vehicle behind me to crash into my rear end. I had to coast to the side of the road, turn my car off and then restart. It took the car to the dealer and was told it was the electronic throttle body which they are having issues with. It is being recalled on some Ford models but not on the Edge. I think that this is crazy. If they know they have an issue why not fix it on all models. Thank goodness I was lucky enough that the driver behind me was paying attention. If this had happened on the interstate it could had seriously injured somebody. I hope that the ntsb looks into this before someone gets killed.

While merging onto freeway suddenly lost ability to accelerate. Wrench icon came on dash display. Was able to pull over to the side of the freeway. Turned car off, turned back on and was able to drive the car normally again. I am hoping there is a fix for this problem as it was very dangerous.
Actually happened twice. Once at 60 mph and again at about 15mph. The car immediately decelerates on its own as if it is not getting gas. The "wrench" icon comes on. When the car is turned off and restarted, it functions normally. Several similar instances reported on internet.
Accelerator became unresponsive in heavy traffic at speed creating a very dangerous situation. The engine was running but you were unable to accelerate, had to maneuver out of traffic on to the shoulder of the road and wait in high volume traffic to be towed.
Was driving in busy residential area and the car started to shudder and eventually lost all power to the engine and the dashboard displayed a wrench symbol. It seemed like it was going to stall. I was able to get to the side of the road. I then turned the engine off and upon restarting was able to drive the short distance to the dealer. The dealer performed a pcm reprogram. Per the diagnostic notes, after getting a code of p260f they reprogrammed the car to the latest calibration, test drove it (approx 9 miles) and no sign of the problem. I picked the car up on Friday, sept 5. Today, sept 7, 2014, just 2 days after "fixing" the problem, the exact same thing happened. Similar speed, car started to shake and unresponsive to accelerator. Fortunately, I was at nearly the same location so I was able to get to the side of the road without incident. After researching the issue, this appears to a pretty common problem in the Ford Edge owner community. However, if this issue were to happen while driving on a freeway, the outcome might be very different. Hoping someone can help with this issue. I no longer feel safe driving this car.
I was driving along on a 2 lane highway when all of a sudden I had no power in the gas pedal, and an orange wrench light popped up in my dash. I pulled off the road and put my car in park. It was idling very rough. I turned the car off and after a few minutes I cranked it back up and it was fine. I took it to tallahassee Ford on magnolia. When I got there and told the service guy what the problem was he immediately said it was the throttle body. Two days later he called and said they replaced the pcm. It was fine for 24 hours then it did the same thing again in downtown traffic. I took it back to Ford and they replaced my dirty air filter and that was it. Now it's back at Ford right now, because the problem is now happening more frequently and is very dangerous as I do a lot of interstate driving, and they just called to tell me it's the throttle body and it would be nearly $600 to replace it. I feel like I've gotten the run around!.
Base model: in first week of August 2014, it experienced sudden loss of speed and severe vibration while driving on major thouroughfare street. It was unable to be driven and could not be moved out of the way. The "wrench" sign came up. After turning it off and waiting for about a 2-3 mins, it did start like normal. We brought to the dealership the same day. First we were told that it just needs computer reset and would cost $75, then they ultimately did it for free, while performing 30k miles services same day. Three month later I started experiencing the same issue again. I called the dearlership and was told to bring it in. I did not have time for about a week due to tight work schedule, but during that week it kept occuring again, happened 3-4 times. Finally when it went for service at the dealership, they told me that it is throttle issue and quoted me about $800 to fix it. Upon further inquiring with technician, he told that this is not an uncommon issue on Ford vehicles. Ford esape and fusion have been recalled to fix it under extended warranty for the similar problem, but Ford Edge has not been still covered for this issues. There is a fundamental problem with how Ford has been handling the issue for the Edge. What I have found that Ford has not allowing / giving out service center to use the code to explore the black box right away if this issue comes up which leads to delay in finding out what exactly is wrong with it. This is very dangerous situation. If you are driving on major interstate or making a turn, sudden decelaration and stalling could be life threatening for the all passangers in the car. Nhtsa has dropped the ball by not forcing Ford to recall Ford Edge and have just enforced customer satisfaction program instead of recall. I hope the NHTSA does not wait till the fatalities are reported. ( car is under my wife's name).
Going down a busy road at 45mph, my 2011 Ford Edge did a slight jerk and I lost the ability to accelerate. I was nearly rear ended! this incident has happened 3 times in 3 weeks. They occur at random and without warning. A wrench icon will display on the dash when it occurs. I had to coast to the shoulder of the road to stop since I could not accelerate, nor did the motor rev when I pressed the gas. Once stopped on shoulder, I cut the vehicle off and back on. It took longer than normal to crank. Once it finally started up I was able to continue driving with no problems. I brought the vehicle in to a Ford dealer to see what the error messages read and they were unable to find any messages on my car. This fact made it so I could not use my warranty coverage to cover repair cost. This is ludicrous! since this issue is recurring and ,after research, found to be prevalent in many Ford models, Ford should step up and recall this issue but they won't. This is a dangerous issue and could cause injuries!.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the accelerator pedal failed and the vehicle stalled. The contact mentioned that the wrench warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the vehicle was repaired. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 41,000.
Driving getting ready to make a turn, vehicle completely stalled out, didn't turn off but I l ost power . Had no ability to accelerate. Immediately put on hazard lights, put into park and turned car off. Turned car back on and preceded with fear and caution. I had a similar incident at about14000 miles when I took it in for service they said nothing was wrong. I'm afraid to drive to work in the morning, if this happens during rush hour someone may be injured or worst. I usually have my grand daughter with me.
I was driving when I lost acceleration. A wrench light came up on my screen. Thankfully my breaks still worked and I was able to coast to a stop, almost getting rear ended by a semi, but then the whole motor started shaking and sputtering. I put my vehicle in park and turned it off. When I went to turn it back on it hesitated for a minute, but then started. This didn't happen again until a few weeks later while on the highway going 60mph! I've had it happen multiple times since then and almost being hit a few other times. I've noticed that I don't have as much power when accelerating even when the wrench doesn't come up. Today it happened twice within a couple of minutes and the check engine light came on this time. I don't understand why they won't have a recall when so many people have an issue! I've almost been hit multiple times when this occurs and I would rather not have me or my child hurt from a malfunction that needs to be fixed!.
This is now the seventh time I've lost all power while driving. The car completely shuts down, steering becomes uncontrollable and the oil pressure light comes on. I've taken to the dealership and I'm being told the car has no codes of what happened and they can't repair. I'm not sure how a computer doesn't register a low oil pressure light or how it's not hard coded somewhere in the computer system that the car just cut out at 35mph to 60 mph I have no warning that this is about to happen, I lost my steering, car shuts down, brakes do not work. Ford has no idea on how to fix this. I pull over and wait a few minutes crank up and go, sometimes it does it 5 to 6 times in a row before I can get to the dealer. Also, my driver's side door always keeps the door ajar light on, Ford has no clue how to fix this either- the interior lights stays on the whole time also. I have taken it in several times for this also and they can't fix it. I bought this car used and it was great for one year and now it has many problems which I believe it did when I bought it. I now put 93 octane in it just to see if that helps, I have put engine cleaner in it, had all the filters changed every 3 months, nothing seems to work. I do have grandchildren and worry that an accident could happen due to this malfunction. How do I go about filing against Ford for the lemon law.
I was coming home from a soccer game and just lost power I pushed on the gas pedal nothing happened. Car loses power. Ford house had to replaced throttle body and recal pcm and allok. They explained it to me air was in it so it messed computer signal up. I don't know why I would have to pay to fix this issue. Ford needs to fix. 2011 Ford Edge has issues.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving the vehicle suddenly stalled. When the failure occurred, the power train malfunctioned and the power sensor light illuminated. The contact indicated that the defect occurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the throttle body was defective. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 46,320.
While driving on multiple occasions the car would stall at highway speeds. Absolutely no acceleration and rapid speed decrease made it a very hazerdous situation on the interstate or highway. Several occasions tge vehicle stalled while crossing an intersection of highway during rush hour. Almost being rear ended by a semi going 60mph at one point in time as well. Our 2011 Ford Edge sel had a bad throttle body and was not covered under the power train warranty. I consider this a major safety issue as it has been reported by multiple people and is all over the internet. 2012+ was recalled for the same issue but not our 2011. . .
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently and then stalled with the illumination of the wrench warning icon. The vehicle was restarted after several attempts and resumed normally however, the failure recurred five times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 25,640.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled while driving at various speeds then the malfunction indicator light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who located the failure at the throttle body. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 50,000.
Travel on interstate highway in middle of three lanes at 75mph. Power to engine ceased. Engine would not respond to accelerator. Coasted across right lane of heavy traffic to get to right shoulder. Coasted to stop.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving approximately 48 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently. The wrench warning icon illuminated on the instrument panel. The failure recurred once. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated that the throttle body would need to be replaced. The vehicle was scheduled for repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000. The VIN was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning. The check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel at the time of the failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and it was determined that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The failure of the throttle body caused fuel to be cut off from the engine. The contact stated that the throttle body was cleaned. The failure and current the mileage was 44,905.

I pulled into a parking space. Felt the car move forward. Immediately turned the steering wheel to avoid the car directly parked in front of me. Accelerating to 25-30 miles per hour and not knowing what was happening, steered the car up the parking lane into a snow-covered field, circled and came back into another row of the parking lot. I had my foot on the brakes the whole time. When I got to the end of that row and realized I had no brakes, finally threw it in park. The car stopped, gears grinding. The vehicle maintained the same speed the whole time. If there would have been people or other car movement at the time, I don't know what would have happened. Ford inspected the vehicle and found nothing.
The throttle body failed while I was driving about 65 miles per hour on interstate 65. This fail happened at an extremely busy portion of I-65 as you leave indiana and cross into louisville, ky. Luckily, the time of day was approximately 1:30 p. M. So traffic was rather light. If this had happened during rush hour, I would not have been able to get my car off the interstate and over to an emergency lane. Who knows what that result would have been - a horrible crash - possibly death. Ford really needs to step up and recall the throttle body part. As I have researched this on the internet, I see many instances where Ford appears to have several models (old and new) that are experiencing failed throttle body components. This is unacceptable and will surely cause additional fatalities (they have already had one fatality due to this part failure).
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving approximately 1 mph, the vehicle unexpectedly increased acceleration and then crashed into a tree. The driver sustained injury to the shoulder. The vehicle was towed to a collision center and repaired for the exterior body damages. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
My wife was driving home from work on the freeway when all of a sudden her vehicle went "limp". While the vehicle was in "limp' mode there was no acceleration and you can feel huge vibrations as if the engine was about to die. She was forced to maneuver her way through three lanes of traffic with her hazards on in order to get to a "safe" spot. The only way she was able to get out of the situation was to turn off the vehicle and restart it. The on board computer had a wrench light up and a message asking to look in our manual. Per our manual this is a powertrain issue. This has happened two more times in less than four days and twice our three month old son was with us/her. My wife is currently taking the vehicle to a Ford dealership and she just called to inform me that it had happened the third time. This is a dangerous thing and has disaster written all over it!.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to pull the car to the side of the road and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle traveled another 15 miles at 65 mph before stalling again. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnosis and the throttle body was repaired. The failure and current mileages were 54,917.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. While driving approximately 10 mph, the engine began to rev up and the vehicle accelerated in reverse independently to 35 mph. The vehicle began to spin and the contact crashed into a motor home. The police reported to the scene and a report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The passenger of the vehicle sustained injuries and bruising to his ribs, arms, legs, and head. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle would intermittently surge forward while driving approximately 40 mph. The vehicle would continue to accelerate until the brakes were applied. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they were unable to diagnose the failure. The throttle body was replaced, but the failure continued. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 10,000.
Since the first year, when I leased it I've had trouble with the vehicle pulling and accelerating while driving. I've taken it to the dealership many times for this and they've stated no problem, but the last time I took it they found there was a problem. Unfortunately for me whatever they did was short lived, because it's back to pulling again and the kicking, like when you get rear ended by another car. My biggest fear is to one day be on the freeway and it pulls or accelerate and causes an accident.
