general problems of the 2013 Ford Edge - part 1

Driver door says ajar even when shut, inside lights stay on. Fuel indicator says ajar stays on. Backup camera shows upside down.

I purchased this vehicle used in August 2025 from the estate of a friend's relative. The records show it was meticulously maintained and no recall notices have been unaddressed. The prior owner used it infrequently and it still has just under 90k miles. There were no major engine issues when my local repair shop (over 12 years and 3 vehicles) inspected all systems, and the vehicle passed for PA state inspection and emissions. However, driving more, I noticed that the brakes would intermittently become "mushy" or "hard" and overall less responsive. I needed to use a lot of force to fully stop over a longer distance. There was also a hissing noise while braking and sometimes the cabin air fan would blast on suddenly. Then, while stopped at a red light and applying the brakes, the engine shut off and check engine light came on. My mechanic detected O2 sensor codes p2195/p2197 indicating "stuck lean. " but nothing about the brake booster, and so we cleaned it up a bit and tried to get more of an understanding of the issue. Now I know that the compromised engine vacuum from the booster air leak is impacting the fuel/air balance. Extremely unsafe. This has now happened many times while I try to get a good diagnosis and help. It's scary, and makes city driving very challenging. On multiple occasions I feared I would hit other vehicles or would have to "creep" at a light to alleviate the airflow issues from braking. If I have to be at a light for more than a moment, I will put the car in park and foot off the brake. I'd rather risk being honked at or hit, than have the engine dying on me in traffic. When I was able to get to a dealership, I was informed that it was the brake booster. The first thing I found when looking up that part for the 2013 Ford Edge was the recall. The dealership says my VIN was not covered, but it seems more than coincidence that this is the exact problem, now confirmed by the dealership. The part is faulty, and should be replaced by oem.

I have several different things going on. First of all my rear turn signals do not work, nor do my rear hazard lights. I've taken it to a mechanic who has extensively looked at this and has determined that it's the body control modular and is suggested replacement. I have been waiting for several months for this part to come in but he keeps telling me it's on back order. Also, my radiator fan/assembly went bad and had to be replaced. Upon the mechanic installing the new fan assembly, I had numerous fuses blown and that is when my blinker and hazard light issue started. This is a major safety concern as signaling the direction that you're turning is very important to other drivers. Additionally, it is against the law not to use signals. I'm constantly in fear that someone is going to rear in me because of my inability to signal when switching lanes and or turning. Additionally, my back up camera stopped working shows a black screen with a notice to contact the dealer. Another issue I have is that my door ajar light is illuminated all the time. I often feel unsafe and fear that the door may just come open at any time, I am unable to lock my doors with the internal lock , which means my doors are left unlocked while I'm in the vehicle. Also, the interior lights stay on for awhile when car turned off, thus putting more strain on the battery, which I've just replaced. Plus, the dome light will not go off until you accelerated to about 20 mph, however, when putting the car in reverse there's no way to get the lights to turn off in this causes visibility issues at night. That in conjunction with my backup camera not working makes it a very dangerous situation when going in reverse. I also detect the odor of gasoline which lingers in my vehicle for some time after getting fuel. I'm scared that there's a leak and if so the potential of a fire is very concerning. And I've noticed that my gas mileage is not really good and I'm not sure if that's related.

While driving I came upon a red light. While sitting at the red light I noticed my car began to loose power and started shaking. My rpm dropped to almost 0. My car was loosing power while driving. No light has appeared on my dashboard, my gas tank said I had 98 miles till empty. I had two young kids in my vehicle. I anxiously started tapping the gas a little and made in into the nearest parking lot. This is unacceptable as I was in the middle of the road with children. I sat in my car with it on idle and nothing happened.

The fuel tank has a crack in the top causing fuel leaking when the tank is full. This has been confirmed by an independent service center. Cost to replace the tank is approximately 3000$.

My brakes are hard to press sometimes hard to stop. Jerky and then hard then soft. I read brake booster master cylinder or hcu all Ford's mistakes. Still no recall. I'm outside of the extended warranty because I just bought this 3 months ago and it's over 10 years old only 115000 miles on it. If I die I'm having my family sue Ford. Codes p2 195 and p2 197 are now showing after a week and a half of this problem. Taking it to Ford Tuesday. Calling customer service Monday. Shame on Ford.

I was issued a customer satisfaction program #13n02 while replacing brake booster helped, bypassing the fact the master cylinder fluid leaked into brake booster and was not part of repair is just ridiculous. Until master cylinder is repaired, problem will not be resolved! please remedy by including master cylinder with brake booster 13n02. My brake pedal still goes to floor, I am requesting your immediate response.

I've had bad gas mileage since I got vehicle 10 months ago. I had 19 miles left when I parked my Edge after having brake booster replaced on 2/15/24 13n02, to wake up with 0 miles left??? I've been getting 15 mpg? that's easy country driving, now my gas is disappearing. I believe it's same problem as fuel leak recall 14v-002/13513. The 2013 Fordm Edge should be a buy back do to so many manufacturers errors.

After filling up the vehicle to the "first click" at the gas station and driving home, noticed strong fuel odor in garage. Next trip noticed a puddle of fuel under the fuel tank and dripping fuel from vehicle. Issue goes away after driving about 75 miles. Next fill up, purposely kept fuel level no higher than about 3/4 tank do not currently have the issue. Am not filling the vehicle to full any longer. No check engine light indicated, even after driving over 300 miles.

My daughter was driving the car and the vehicle stalled out. A warning light for low oil pressure came on however the oil was change 1 week ago. This is very dangerous because she was on a very busy highway. Also when putting gas in the car it sometimes will not start.

Brake booster went bad on the vehicle after 8 years. Brake pedal had to be pressed to the floor. The fuel line had a leak so anytime gas was put into the vehicle it would leak down the frame to the ground. Wiring for the back up camera goes in & out. I’m afraid of the brakes not working & a fire being caused by the leaking fuel or faulty electrical lines connecting the rear camera to the display.

Car has trouble starting/running often every time the tank is full. Numerous shops can not find the issue.

Car started shaking when I started to slow down at a red light and then loss power in the road. This continued to happen. Finally engine light came on I took it to get scanned came back 02 sensor. I will take it back to the dealer on Tuesday. My car just shutting off with two kids in the backseat going down the road is not okay and a huge safety issue.

I have filed a complaint several times regarding my car. After several times (3) times of getting my fuel valve replaced it is having issues again. This probably has given me incorrect gas milage and has lost power on me going down the road mid drive with 2 kids in the back seat almost causing an accident. This is unacceptable and as soon as something happens there will be a lawsuit. I have replaced this part 3-4 times now and still getting codes and having my car just randomly loose power and shut off. Something needs to be done about the purge valve malfunctioning system on these cars before someone like myself and kids get extremely hurt.

I took my car in for routine oil change and was told that my car had needed the ptu transfer case unit fixed. They told me it was leaking and it would soon stop my car from operating. I looked into this and found the same recall was done for other vehicles but not mine! I am sure my vehicle was missed during this recall because the exact same is happening to my car!!!! this is NHTSA campaign id 14v002000. This recall was done on 01/06/2014. There are also other recalls I believe my vehicle is eligible for that my vehicle was not recalled. This process should be a priority to get correct and it is embarrassing I am having to go through this. I hope someone is able to remedy this as I believe this is a manufacturer defect, that I deserve to have compensated for.

The first issue I am having is that the vehicle is telling me to put my car in park when it’s already in park. This has been going on for many months now. My second issue is when I fill my tank to full and try to start it, it has a hard time turning over. This has been going on for many months now. My third issue is that my front wipers will not turn off no matter what I do. And it’s been weeks. The fourth issue I have is that two of my tires keep leaking air since I have purchased a vehicle from the dealership and I have had it in and they claim they sealed it but they are still leaking. So I constantly have to fill them up with air. This has been going on since I bought it from the dealership.

I was driving the vehicle and the vehicle stopped driving. All the lights came on saying no fuel low oil pressure and traction to be fixed etc. I was in the middle of a busy road. Almost caused a serious accident.

Check engine light turned on while accelerating. When light first came on it cause the car to stall while driving. Had to pull over and turn the car off. Went and had the codes read the code was an evap leak. Was told it was the gas cap leak. Gas tank is an easy fuel tank. After research I do believe this issue is associated with NHTSA campaign: 14v002000.

While driving the car randomly shuts off when it wants to. Does it approximately every half hour to 1 hour of drive time. When it shuts off the dash board goes dark, and the engine shuts off. The car needs to be coasted to the side of the road with no power brakes, or power steering, and put in park. As soon as the car is stopped and parked it can be started back up again. Multiple times it has shut off in heavy traffic and almost caused an accident, 1 time was in a construction zone on the highway where there was no place to pull off so I had to come to a complete stop in the middle of the highway and restart the car. The car was taken to the Ford dealership and they inspected it for 1 full week and they said they could not verify what is causing the issue and told me to continue driving vehicle and when problem starts happening more often to bring it back in. There are no warning lights that come on, and there are no symptoms that are associated with the problem. The car first started doing it approximately 1 month ago, at about 75,000 miles. Car currently has 76,561.

The brake pedal acts as if there is air in the line or the need to be bled. The brake pads are fairly new changed this year. The next stop starts the same then the pedal goes to the floor. The other issue is the engine oil pressure light comes on. The idle id effected by this and the engine nearly stalls.

2013 Ford Edge unexpectedly stalls while driving on street. Vehicle sets a code and not corrected. Now determined throttle body module need replacement. Also have a 2015 Ford Edge that exhibited same problem. It was determined the purge valve was bad. A know number of people had this similar problems. Any future activity being talked about.

The engine light is on in my car. I took it to a repair shop and they said it had the codes of p2196 and p2198 a h02s heated oxygen sensor is malfuntioning. When the rep pulled up the codes he informed me they had thousands of my same vehicle with the same problem. I contacted Ford warranty and they said it was not covered. This is horrible for Ford to know this is a defect on their vehicle and not be responsible for fixing it. So I would like to launch this formal complaint. I will never buy another Ford vehicle again. The aip has gone out in my vehicle and I have had other issues that the Ford warranty has said did not apply. The vehicle was in motion when the light came on.

The engine stopped while in motion (on multiple occasions), usually when coming to a stop or turning. I lost steering control as well. The error "low engine oil pressure" appeared on panel. After putting car in park and attempting to restart the car, it usually would restart right away. On one occasion, it took 2 attempts to start it. Fortunately, there weren't any cars directly behind me or it would've likely caused an accident. A mechanic cleaned the throttle body, replaced a plug, and replaced a misfiring cylinder. The issue has not happened again in the 2 days since then.

While driving the car 40 miles it completely died and the steering wheel locked up. I took the car in for diagnostic test and it came back nothing. The car was giving back to me and it had the warning flashing on the dash with the wrench . I took several pictures. Driving west on I-40 during rush hour traffic. I paid for this repair and see this exact same thing has happened. Several month later the brakes felt like I was pushing on a brick. I was unable to stop,. The Ford company has a recal on the brake boaster and I was told to pay 900. 00 and maybe some time they will include my 2013 Ford Edge. Sept 16 2019 , the check engine light is on. There is a recallfor the Ford Edge 2013 but again not mine I have a faulty purge valve . Ford is charging 349. 00 to put on a part that is again on recall. This part is also on the outside of the car.

2013 Edge sudden loss of acceleration at anytime. Going 75 down the interstate or 30mph through town. Must pull to shoulder if road shut vehicle off and restart. Very dangerous.

Throttle body malfunction. Driving at 45mph car suddenly slows to 2 mph. Shut off car start again, same thing happens. Wrench light comes on. Ford has extended warranty coverage on earlier Ford Edge models but does not on the 2013 Edge. This is the identical problem and repair ( Ford service diagnosed) at a cost of $600. 00. Very dangerous problem to occur suddenly slowing to a crawl in fast moving traffic. Should have been a recall.

Check fuel inlet came on. Then engine light several days later. The gas gauge will not read the level of gas. Now the check engine light is coming on. The dealer said it is not covered under emissons. And it sure is. These fumes are getring in the air. And the valve is not working causing the gas can to get metal which will in turn tear this up .

My car will all of a sudden stop excels rating at high speeds. The rpms increase as the speeds decreases. The Ford dealerships can not figure it out as it has to be doing it. It can happen 30 minutes into driving and then maybe 1. 5 hours is, there is no consistency. It has happens for the past year. And now tracing for the past summer it is very anxious driving this car. I am not sure my car was cleared really with all the recalls.

My vehicle shutters several times when. Moving in. Motion. Then warning. Comes on check fuel inlet while in. Motion. Then moments pass and the vehicle shuts off automatically and in drive. Then I panic.

July 21, 2019 driving along on a 35 mph road and car just stopped accelerating when pushing gas pedal. Wrench indicator appeared and had to put car in neutral to safely pull over. Car did restart after shutting off. Same incident happened an hour later going the same speed. We researched and found the numerous other Ford Edge same complaints that the throttle body was in need of replacement. Had it replaced and car is running smooth with no problems. This was a very scary and concerning issue. I can't imagine being on the expressway like others have experienced. Ford make this right and put out a recall.

Driving 45 mph when the engine lost power and a wrench icon light came on. Engine was idling roughly and accelerator would not work. Vehicle was towed to a dealer and service department could find no trouble codes and could not replicate the problem. The next day this same issue happened again at around 45 mph on a highway.

Check engine light came on. Took it to vehicle service station and code p0299 came up. That is the code to replace turbocharger assembly. The vehicle is only 6 years old and under 100k miles. This issue should not be coming up on a vehicle that is not that old.

Fuel is leaking when pumping gas and smell of gas in the cabin?.

Engine light comes on. Had it hooked up to the machine and it is saying gas cap. It does not have a gas cap.
