Six problems related to rearview system braking have been reported for the 2014 Ford Edge. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2014 Ford Edge based on all problems reported for the 2014 Edge.
Back up camera stopped working. Back up sensors either don’t work or will just beep when nothing is behind the car. Don’t have exact date it stopped working because it started working for 1 day and then stopped working again. It has been probably 8 or 9 months since it has worked.
I have a screen in my car that connects with my rear view camera that shows me where I'm going when backing up and alerts me when objects are near. My rear view camera is malfunctioning where the screen is black without an image of what's behind me and no notification of nearby objects when backing. This issue has not been reviewed by a mechanic or anyone else. However, this is a safety risk not only due to being unable to see low-lying objects on the ground or directly behind my vehicle when backing and then not notifying me of nearby objects to avoid a collision or running over a pedestrian, small child or animal. I am aware that I am able to turn around and back up while facing backwards, but I have paid for a vehicle that has a backup camera and would like to use it; this also does not negate the fact that low-lying objects and small beings would still be invisible to the eye in that manner. A message in yellow just popped up on my screen recently that reads "camera is unavailable. Please contact your dealership. " I have taken a picture of this dysfunction while also showing my car in reverse in the picture to show the problem. I recently saw a recall on what I believe were some Ford trucks that had this same issue. I simply would like to have this function restored for the safety of me and my children as well as the public.
The backup camera has stopped working. Sometimes it appears fuzzy when the car is put into reverse, other times the screen is black and says I need to contact my local dealership. The screen can also stay that way after I place the vehicle back into drive for several minutes before it goes back to the accessory screen. This issue started out as just sometimes a problem and sometimes the camera would work fine. It is at the point now that it never works anymore. I also have had issues with the rear cross traffic sensors "detecting" things when the car is in reverse that aren't there. It can be very dangerous because you think something is behind the car that is not there and can cause the driver to slam on the brakes. This issue does not happen on a regular basis, just sometimes. The vehicle is available for inspection for all problems. None of the problems have been inspected by anyone professionally yet. A dealership has not confirmed the issues either.
Rear backup camera has malfunctioned and an error message appears. The screen goes black.
Rear backup camera can show distorted images or suddenly go dark when engine is running and put into reverse when backing up. Camera image is sporadic. It will sometimes flicker and go out or not engage at all showing either a black or blue screen and saying "rear camera not available". Happens w/o warning. Warmer weather effects it more often than in cold or when foot is applied to the brake. I purchased car brand new from Ford dealership and this started happening after warranty was up. Took to Ford dealership to diagnose cost estimate over $800 to fix. Took to local repair shop and was told it was electrical and needed a code that they couldn't access. There's a recall for 2020 Ford Edge vehicles on this matter as this should be grandfathered in in the recall. It does the same exact thing! I have video that shows much more how this happens.
When I purchased my 2014 Ford Edge sel from north central Ford, I informed the dealership that the backup camera consistently displayed the error message: “camera is unavailable, please contact your dealership. ” this occurred every time the vehicle was placed in reverse. Additionally, the sync display would become unresponsive, disabling access to the phone, climate control, radio, and other settings. The dealership refused to fix the issue and instead offered to replace the entire sync system with an upgrade costing around $800. This issue has persisted since purchase in January 2018. The Ford Edge has significant blind spots, and the backup camera is essential for safe reversing. I recently discovered that Ford issued a recall for similar issues, but my model is not included—even though it clearly suffers from the same defect. I request that the 2014 Ford Edge sel be included in the recall to address this safety-critical issue.
