1 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2025

The lug nut caps will not come off and no tire store in our area can get them off without charging an arm and a leg. What if we were on the road with a flat tire? my husband is [xxx] and I'm [xxx] . There is no way we'd be able to get the wheel off to change it. What if we had no cell service and a driver who is a criminal stops to "help". Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

2 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/29/2024

Swollen wheel nuts.

3 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2023

My vehicle only has 74k miles and the Ford dealership told me I need to replace all lug nugs because they are swollen and will need to be broken off. This is a $200 cost at the dealership for replacement. If purchased at store it is $60 plus someone to change them out. No way at $74k miles this should happen. I've seen many other posts about the same this with this years model. Also since I have aluminum rims, the lugs are hard to locate anywhere. They must have the "mushroom" offset with long attachment.

4 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2023

I own a 2015 Ford Edge 4 door sel with 76k miles which I purchased in 2017 as the second owner. The dealership sold me 5 new lug nuts due to swollen original lug nuts. One lug nut cap were damaged during routine removal to replace an 8 yr old failing tire pressure sensor. I was told the lugs were swollen and had to be replaced. This seemed obsurd. I researched this to find out that the obsurdity was that Ford motor company had been sued about this and it is a known defect of Ford vehicles. Quietly known. I am submitting this complaint because of the defective lug nuts that are a known issue, and could have been replaced at the dealership from the very first oil change or routine maintenance appointment. These defective parts routinely strand motorists or cause unnecessary excess costs to the owners when the actual fix is far less than $1 for each. When the entire vehicle uses only 20, this is negligence on the part of Ford motor company. As a consumer on a fixed income, who purchased the bumper to bumper warranty from Ford, the neglected $20 fix of my vehicle has cost me over $75 so far, and if the dealership (an extension of Ford motor company) has their way, they are happy to charge me that for my 3 remaining tires. A total consumer burden of $300 (per the dealership pricing) for a $20 fix by the manufacturer. All becuase the know problem causes a financial burden and not enough consumers have actually had physical or catestrophic accidents,. . . Yet. A recall is required. If not, there should be a required reimbursement to all consumers who are forced to replace the defective parts. The reimbursement should be that the dealerships seek reimbursement, and that the consumers receive the replacements free of charge.

8 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2022

Car shimmy's when hitting a bump or rough pavement. If this happens when road surface is wet or icy I feel car will slide enough to cause accident.

9 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2022

After experiencing a flat tire on an interstate, we discovereed the Ford-supplied lug wrench could not fit over the lug nuts without the person helping laying across a lane on the interestate and kicking the lug wrench over the lug nut. And, then, disengaging the lug wrench took extreme effort. The person helping me could have been killed by traffic ignoring the position of my car. There is ample reference to the lug nut problem on google'd web pages. The lug nuts on our Edge have not been inspected, yet. No warning lamps apply to this problem.

16 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2019

Lug nuts could not be removed with manufacturer's lug nut wrench, after a tire deflated while driving on interstate 75 in kentucky. The wrench would not fit over the lug nuts. An aftermarket lug nut wrench would also not remove the nuts (21mm was too small; 22mm was too large). The lug nuts on the wheels are original manufacturer installed nuts. Car had to be driven on the flat tire to service center for wheel removal, destroying the tire in the process.

17 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2019

The wheel lug nuts swell up so that a 21mm wrench wont fit and a 22mm wrench is too loose. The lugs are a two piece construction and what happens is the inner piece CA roads and swells the outside piece. Dealer says all 20 nuts have to be replaced at a coast of $200. Ford has had this problem for years ! my nephew had the same problem on his 2011 f-150 Ford truck. I called Ford customer service and they gave me a claim number cas-17162485. This is a safety issue because if I get a flat tire my lug wrench is useless and I would be stranded. Please look into this problem , talking with the Ford service tech. At the Ford dealership this has been a ongoing problem for years.
