general problems of the 2020 Ford Edge - part 2

At around 47,000 miles (April 27, 2024) my car would not move when I put it in reverse to leave my house that day, the engine would just rev and it would not get into the reverse gear. Then warning light came on for the power train so I called the dealership and had it towed to their service department. They said they had to completely rebuild my transmission and it took them almost a month to complete the repairs. (may 6th, while the car was at the dealership , I received several engine warnings from my Ford app. I got my car back from the dealership about 2 weeks later) but immediately after getting my car back from the dealership there were still issues; it’s slips gears , especially from drive to first gear and first gear to second gear and the engine will rev for a while and then the entire vehicle jerks when it finally catches the next gear, also it doesn’t have enough power for steep inclines , it will just roll backwards while the engine is raving trying to climb the hill. This happened intermittently after the transmission rebuild but has since progressed to be an everyday issue. And I’ve sent it back to the dealership several times over the last year for them to fix it but it never gets fixed. They keep telling me they did a software update and that should fix the issue, but it doesn’t. It’s at the dealership again right now because it has gotten so bad that I can’t even drive the car. You start the car, put it in drive and it just revs and won’t even catch first gear. It now has around 60,000 miles. I’m the only owner of the vehicle and I take excellent care of my vehicles. I just want my vehicle to be drivable and a vehicle that is worth the price that I paid for it. I paid for a brand new vehicle, but what I got is a piece of crap. And not drivable.

On 04-14-24 at 830am I was driving home from work as I turned on ridge road in jackson CA I felt the vehicle pull and not want to pick up speed to drive up the road like it wanted to stall and only rolled forward a bit. The vehicle then picked back up and I made it to the stop light at the end of the road once I stopped for less than 1 minute the light turned green, I tried to go and the vehicle shut off and began to roll back I had to step on the break and the car behind me reversed so I would not hit him and then the screen flashed a turn vehicle off and restart engine I tried multiple times about 6. Cars had to go around me as I was the first at the light. I finally got the car to turn on and white smoke came out the exhaust pipes I couldn’t put the car in drive. I tried to re start the vehicle again and got it into drive and was able to pull on the side of the highway and more white smoke came out still no vehicle warning signs came on but the screen flashed dimly like it wanted to turn off again. I flagged down a fire truck and called 911 for help the fighters stated it seemed like my engine had blown out and the coolant was completely drained and may have gotten inside the engine causing the white smoke but to take it to a mechanic to verify. I had the vehicle towed to my home. On the way to work that night it drove fine with no issues or warnings, or pulling, I ran errands the day prior and no light warnings came on nor was my vehicle temperatures out of place. I even had my car serviced on 02-17-24 and had no issues I keep up on the maintenance I got the vehicle used from enterprise with a mileage of 52,559 on 12-13-22 the vehicle now has only 96,634 I’ve had the car for only a year and 4 months it should not have had an engine issue l have made a claim with my insurance hoping to get help, I’m calling enterprise for warranty information if there’s any and Ford to see if there is any manufacturer warranties hoping to hear back this week.

The contact's daughter owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 50-55 mph, the vehicle started losing motive power. The coolant temperature warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle was unmovable. The contact then purchased coolant that she added to the vehicle. The contact was able to drive the vehicle; however, the failure recurred within 2 hours. The contact added coolant to the vehicle and was able to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to the Ford dealer, where the contact was informed that she would need to pay a fee for diagnostic testing. The contact declined and the vehicle was taken to the dealer it was purchased from. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that her grand-father who was an independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and informed he that coolant could be leaking in the engine compartment. The contact related the failure to Ford campaign number: 20-2234. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

I have a 2020 Ford Edge sel and out of nowhere on 09-08-2023 smoke was pouring out of the exhaust and the car was misfiring. I looked further into it and it seemed to be the coolant was leaking down into the cylinder and causing it to burn through the exhaust making it very difficult to breathe. I sat in the car at a drive through for a couple minutes and it was unbearable to breathe. The car is stalling out while accelerating and could be very dangerous depending on where it stalls.

Jumpiness and jittering and chugging up to 35 mph.

While sitting at a traffic signal light that had just changed I removed my foot from the brake and put it on the gas pedal. Suddenly the car lurched forward without any pressure being applied to the gas pedal. This could cause a serious accident if it accelerates at the wrong time.

On 11-16-2021 I put my 2020 Ford Edge in park, got out, and it rolled away. After I put the Edge in park, I opened my door and was moving a trash can, when the Edge rolled forward pinning me.

Driving on freeway within a minute of getting onto the freeway my check engine light came on, followed by engine coolant over heating light (first time it has turned on ever) and I lost almost full control on the freeway. I had to pull over to turn the car off. Waited 10 mins turned it back on could drive for a short distance again. I had to do this at least 10 times until I could get to an exit. This was while freeway traffic sped past me and I didn't always have a side to drive on. I was extremely scared and didn't have the ability to do anything about it. My car is a 2020 with only 2700 miles on it. This is not okay. I had my car towed to the dealership we bought it at and they are going to check it tomorrow, however my life was at risk being on the freeway with virtually no gas power to my car. I don't just want my engine replaced for a brand new car I want a new car. This is not ok.

Engine cut off while driving at highway speed in heavy dallas traffic. Required coming to complete stop to restart vehicle after crossing three lanes to reach shoulder of interstate. Dangerous. Daylight, mid day, clear weather conditions, had been driving 1. 5 hours; mileage only 1,600. Dealer service dept ran computer diagnostics and no codes showed the problem. (numerous online forums have complained about this problem since back in 2005. . . . Very dangerous).
