3 Assist problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 04/16/2025

The adas system has caused erratic and extremely unsafe behavior on multiple occasions. This behavior includes the car slamming on the brakes at high snd low speeds on clear sections of roadway in what appears to be attempts to avoid a shadow or imaginary object in the road. The car has also swerved to avoid a shadow on a tree lined street. Most recently this automatic emergency braking occurred at 70 mph on an interstate with following traffic behind the vehicle nearly causing a high speed rear end accident. On the same trip, the lane keeping assist guided the vehicle beyond the striping toward the road Edge and has attempted to have the car change planes while traversing across a crossover for an intersecting road. Regaining control of the vehicle in all of these incidents has required aggressive actions on the part of the driver to resist/mitigate the braking or steering decisions of the car. The car was purchased with 89k miles on it 5 months ago. The vehicle has not yet been taken to dealer to report or investigate this issue which has also occurred with our 2020 Ford explorer.

4 Assist problem of the 2018 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/12/2025

We had stopped to get a soda and when we came back out and started the vehicle the steering wheel turned 90 degrees so the straight position was now 12 and 6 vs 3 and 9, I tried to shut the vehicle off and restart it and no change in steering wheel position. There was also an adaptive steering error on the dash. Another issue with this was that you could no longer see the speedometer as the steering spoke was covering it, we drove to the closest Ford dealer from where we were and we were told they didn’t have time to look at it on that day. I confirmed with the cashier that they were sending us away with a vehicle with a steering issue and the cashier once again just said they could not look at it on that day which I was not asking them to do I just wanted to leave it and go off in a loaner that I was able to get under the extended warranty. We went to the second Ford dealer that was closer to our home and they took the vehicle in and 2 different service writers stated they had never seen anything like this before. They had the vehicle for a total of 3 weeks to diagnosis and replace the steering wheel and try to get the wheel back into alignment which took 2 trips. The second visit we met with the master tech at Ford country who went for a drive with us and could see that the Ford emblem in the center of the wheel was not straight and it took them 2 or 3 attempts to get it straight and the master tech with 35 years of experience stated they had only seen this 1 other time in all their years of working on vehicles. I just do not have confidence in the vehicle any longer and just keep thinking about what if this happened while we were driving and not just in a parking lot. I no longer feel safe in the vehicle.

6 Assist problem of the 2022 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 03/16/2023

I got the Edge in 02/18/23 purchased brand. I noticed that the drivers seat is loose. I actual took into the dealer where it was purchased and I was told it would take 3 months to look at it. Needless to say I didn't leave the vehicle. I also notice that body trim was coming off and I filed a claim with Ford but I was told a dealer would have to send pictures and they would decide if they would cover it under warranty. The lane keep assist or Ford CO-pliot will over compensate and if not careful will cause a crash.

7 Assist problem of the 2021 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/27/2023

1) the lane keeping assistance feature was engaged. 2) I observed an upcoming snow drift across the road. 3) I stepped on the brakes to slow down. 4) I observed there was no oncoming traffic (two lane road). 5) I moved over towards the center of the road to better navigate the snow drift. 6. The lane keeping assistance feature adjusted my steering to move me back into my lane (closer to the ditch). 7. The vehicle entered the snow drift with my wheels turned to the right. 8. The snow drift impaired the lane keeping assistance feature. 9. I lost control of the vehicle. 10. I hit a utility pole. Does the user manual instruct the operator to disengage the lane keeping assistance feature during snow and icy conditions?.

8 Assist problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/26/2023

This incident is related to the rear view camera and the sync/radio interface in my vehicle. The recent recall for Ford explorers in relation to the rear cameras are also present in the Ford Edge. In addition to these issues, when I am driving my rear view camera will turn on while driving. This has occurred on the freeway and has impacted how my car reacts to collision assists, lane keeping/departure functions. I have taken my car to Ford and they have neglected the issue and said there is nothing they can do. I have left voicemails to get my car looked at again and reported to Ford but seeing the recall headlines today about Ford suvs I wanted to report that this is also happening yo Ford Edges and has caused issues for me. I believe this to be a glitch in the sync software. This has been an ongoing issue but has most recently occurred to me yesterday. I have video of this behavior as well but included a photo - you can see the car is in drive and the rear view camera is active.

9 Assist problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/09/2021

Recently, my 2020 Ford Edge, with 1,800 miles, displayed a warning that the pre-collision assist was not available. After completing the possible solutions indicated by the owner's manual without success, I took the Edge into a Ford dealership. The service tech's attempt to reprogram the unit revealed the front center camera was offline. Upon further inspection, it was discovered that the bracket that held the camera and radar components of the 2020 Edge were damaged requiring replacement. The Ford team theorized a stone hit a 2 mm plastic grill trim breaking it, then the same stone ricocheted and damaged the plastic bracket holding the camera and radar components of the pre-collision assist rendering it useless. No sign of any impact. To replace the bracket holding the pre-collision hardware costs $80. However, labor was $600. No choice but to have it repaired. The Ford motor company determined, using an unknown metric, that the repairs were not covered by the three-year bumper-to-bumper warranty. The final cost to me of the repairs: $671. During the repair, I learned that the Edge model years prior to 2020 had a metal bracket to protect the pre-collision camera and radar components. However, for the 2020 Edge model year and beyond, Ford replaced the metal bracket with a plastic bracket. In short, the bracket would not have been damaged if hit by a stone if the metal bracket had not been replaced by Ford with a plastic bracket. I believe that this plastic bracket is not only a threat to me and my passengers safety, the proper functioning of the pre-collision assist, but also an outrageous expense for Ford customers who may not afford to have it repaired. Thus, exposing customers to unsafe driving conditions. The metal bracket should replace the plastic bracket. Included is a picture of the front grill area cracked by a stone.
