Ford Edge owners have reported 13 problems related to cruise control (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Edge based on all problems reported for the Edge.
Adaptive cruise control has a mind of its own. Sometimes it keeps you between the road lines. Sometimes it will let you go off the road. Sometimes it will try to pull the steering wheel out of your hands for no reason. Sometimes the pre-collision alarm will go off for no reason. Sometimes it will stop for a vehicle in front of you. Sometimes it will not. How can you feel safe driving this vehicle?.

The collision avoidance and cruise control system has become intermittent, undependable and dangerous while driving. There is no way to tell when it is woking or not and to depend on it is asking for disaster. The dealer doesn't seem to have a clue as to what to do about it.

The adaptive cruise control will slam on the brakes when passing a large truck in an adjacent lane at highway speeds. It seems to be most prevalent when it is clear and sunny. The vehicle thinks there is an obstacle in our lane. The symptoms are the same as those outlined in a recall issued for the 2015-2016 Ford f-150 trucks.

When driving at highway speeds (65 mph+) with cruise control enabled, if I pass an 18 wheeler, the car will suddenly jam on the brakes and decelerate from my current speed down below 55 mph. This happens in less then 3 seconds. There is no one in front of me - it is a clear straightaway. If I step on the gas the car will speed up and I'll pass the truck. At that point the cruise control will operate normally - until I pass another truck. This doesn't happen all then time. Maybe 20%. It seems to happen with tall tractor trailers more then normal trucks. Aside from the sudden stopping issue, the real problem is that cars behind me see that I am stopping for no apparent reason and if they're not paying attention they'll run right into the back of my car. This has been a day 1 problem - I bought the car new in 2014. I am adding my complaint to others who have reported this same issue. Fords response - pay $3000 to have your car fixed. This is a safety issue and there ought to be a recall to get it fixed.

Purchased my 2011 Ford Edge in June/July of 2014 for jc lewis Ford in savannah, GA. Turns out there was an "extended warranty" in place because the brake booster's in this car have been failing. I'm not sure why they would have sold me a car without completing a repair or informing me of the possibility of malfunction. About a month ago, I was driving down the interstate at about 65 mph when I was cut off by another vehicle. When I went to tap the brakes to disengage the cruise control, nothing happened! I had to press the brakes about halfway down to get the cruise control to disengage and, even then, it felt like I did not have power brakes.

Pulled in parking lot,put transmission in park, and engine began to increase in rpm to 2500-2600,I noticed driving home it seemed as if the cruise control was engaged (it was not). Applying the brake gently (would not correct)if brake was applied very firmly,it would finally let the rpm drop back to normal,.

While driving down a main highway with cruise control set at 60 mph, the vehicle suddenly started surging and the rpms were fluctuating then the vehicle accelerated rapidly until speed reached about 72 mph. I had to turn cruise control off for the speed to drop back down.

On 9-27-14, using adaptive cruise control on straight, 4-lane divided highway with no traffic in lane ahead or behind. Vehicle's brakes suddenly activated dropping speed from 74 to 50 mph. Taken to dealership 10-7-14 and issue could not be duplicated. Happened again on 11-11-14 with same roadway & traffic conditions, this time 55 to 50 mph drop. Taken to dealer on 11-20-14 and again no issues were detected with the vehicle. Contacted Ford customer service who said to take it back again to generate a "hot line" complaint for an engineer to look at the vehicle. Took vehicle back 12-3-14 and left it so they could drive it for a few days and try to duplicate the issue (they supplied a rental). Called after 2 days and said an engineer "happened to be there looking at another vehicle so they looked at mine". No issue found, but they did a reset of the system. The entire time they had the vehicle, it was driven a total 6 (six) miles. Also, adaptive cruise is set as a default and cannot be changed. If you turn the "adaptive" feature off, it goes back when you start the vehicle again.
My wife and I were driving on the freeway, with the cruise control on. At random the care kicked out on cruise and the speedometer was not working, we also had tire pressure warning, engine service warning, air bag warning and no odometer. We made it to the freeway exist, however when we went to accelerate the car barely moved. The engine would rev at high rpm's but would just crawl. We made it to our house (barely) and parked the car. The shift into park was very violent and made the care jump. With my foot on the brake I would shift from p to n, then n to r, then r to d and same order back to park. Each change was very violent. I turned the engine off, let it sit for about 1 minute, turned the car back on and the warning lights were gone and the odometer was back to normal. However, when I went to drive again the shift was still violent, I had not power (high rev and barely moved) and no speedometer. The car is currently in my driveway with that being the current state. I have done some research online and this appear to be a very common issue for these vehicles.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact experienced hard braking when the brake pedal was depressed. There were no indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The dealer stated that there was a glitch and would not repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 9,000. Updated 08/19/lj the consumer stated when the cruise control wa activated and driving on a straight road, the brakes would activate. Updated 08/21/14.
We were returning home via i55 and I turned on the adaptive cruise control and the pre-collision system. Three times in the space of an hour, without any vehicle in front of us, the vehicle brake itself. There was a tractor and trailer next to us and cars behind us on the two lane highway. After the third incident I turned off the pre-collision system but left the adaptive cruise control on. Some time later with different vehicles, but the same types in the same relative positions, the car brake violently, the warning lights in the windshield were blinking and a siren was sounding and there was no one in front of us again. The attempted stop by the car was so violent it threw us forward. We have not driven the car since and it has been at the Ford dealer waiting for a diagnosis and a part that may fix the issue. The Edge has been at the dealer since the the 27th of December and no one has any idea as to when the "part" may be in. We took possession of the car on December 20th, 2014. I contacted Ford asking for a buy back and am waiting to hear. Both the dealership service manager and a Ford field engineer experienced the same issues.
While driving on interstate at a fixed speed of 70mph, the car suddenly accelerated to 80 mph, then slowed down, and reaccelerated. The rpm needle went over to 4000. I had to turn cruise control off. It has occurred several times, but I have noticed that during winter months, it isn't an issue, but when the weather is warm, the problem becomes persistent. Dealership could not find problem so they reset the electronic system. Still had problem.
