Car was stationary in parking lot, I went to press the brake pedal to switch into drive. Brakes worked fine earlier, but when pressing the pedal, it dropped to the floor. No resistance left when pressing the brake pedal, was able to drive home very slowly. The brakes still worked, but only when the pedal was against the floor. Late at night when it happened, need to check for any leaks or damage in the morning.
2001 Ford Escape was sitting in driveway with engine off. Started smoking, popped hood to find fire on abs module. Pulled off battery terminal and patted fire off. Car was being sent in the next week for recall. Wellsville NY Ford only replaced the brake reservoir cap and abs fuse box. Never fixed the module, faulty seals or burnt harness, as per NHTSA action number :pe06048.

Here recently I have had several occurrences of my 2001 Escape stalling while driving. On 2 occasions I was approaching a stop light, slightly uphill and when I pressed the brake the car completely shut off losing all power and steering and I had to "stand" on the brakes to stop. A few other times it happened while I was turning a corner as well as going through a stop light turning right or left, not going fast at all. Pretty scary stuff. I have had no problem starting it back up after the occurrences, however it keeps happening.
The contact owns a 2001 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 mph, the brakes hesitated to stop the vehicle and the abs system was activated in order to stop. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing where the all wheel drive was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.
When vehicle is at a stop with the brakes applied at either a red light, stop sign, or traffic, the car jerks to move forward. This does not happen all the time, it has been doing this since the beginning of the year. Ford dealership replaced an abs ring that was cracked. They said, this is causing the vehicle to move forward because the abs is trying to engage.
Fifth time vehicle has been to the dealership for the same problem. Vehicle is stopped at a red light or in traffic, the vehicle lunges forward with the brakes applied. Daughter took it back to the same dealership and they thought they fixed the problem. She was on her way back to college. . . 4 miles from the house at a red light. She called and said the vehicle was still doing what it was doing before. This needs to be investigated and a recall issued.
Dear sirs, as you are aware, this past weekend on the san mateo bridge in hayward CA, a horrific accident/fire occurred with a limousine, where five individuals were trapped and killed due to a vehicle fire. Upon seeing and hearing about this horrific tragedy, my wife insisted that we have all of the recalls performed on our 2001 Ford Escape. Much to my surprise, when I took our Escape into fremont Ford on may 7th, michael ferrer, the assistant service manager, told me that he was refusing to perform all of the recalls on our truck, because they have expired. As the original owner and primary driver of this vehicle, please explain to me how recalls involving safety issues expire? is this a Ford company policy or a fremont Ford dealership/service policy? when I picked up our Escape on may 8th from the dealership, I documented on the paperwork that they refused to perform these very important recalls. I am not comfortable driving this vehicle in light of the tragedy that occurred this past weekend. Please advise how you would like to move forward concerning this very important matter. Thank you for your assistance.

2001 Ford Escape XLT 3. 0l v6 awd - xxxxxxxx41kf78656 daughter sitting at a red light or in traffic with the brake applied, the vehicle tries to move forward. She explained it as jerking forward. This has happen on several occasions with her. Vehicle was taken straight to sheehy Ford of warrenton, va dealership. They were able to find a crack abs ring that they said was the cause for the jerking while the brake was applied. Replaced the part. Experienced the same thing on the way home. Returned it to Ford dealership. They were not able recreate the problem so they said nothing was wrong with the vehicle. This vehicle has a total of 13 recalls according to automd. Com. According to Ford. Com website, this vehicle has no recalls listed. They have a couple listed that should be added to my daughters vehicle: 2001 Ford Escape power train recall 04v165000: campaign number: 04v165000: date manufactured: Apr 14, 2004, vehicles affected: 321903: component: power train status: not done 2001 for Escape service brake, hydraulic recall 12v005000 - not done please investigate this as it is a big problem when its a teenager driving.

Brakes.
Vehicle was approaching intersection w/ stop sign. Vehicle would not slow. Driver reported 'no brakes'. Brakes, disks, were replaced 5 weeks prior and were apparently in working order. Suspicion that throttle may have stuck open, resulting in inability to slow with brakes. Vehicle was in frontal, t-bone crash, two vehicles total loss with injuries.

The tone ring on the driver side of my car, which is part of the abs system, cracked. This apparently is a very common problem with serious consequences. This break, which usually disables the abs system, did not register on my car's computer system.

2001 Ford Escape felt like abs was kicking in on ice. Felt pumping in pedal and poor braking. This has happened several times in past 2 weeks. Seem to happen most at speeds of 30-60 mph. Almost reended another vehicle. Car was purchased 9/6/2011.
The contact owns a 2001 Ford Escape. The contact stated the vehicle caught fire while parked in the garage. The fire was located on the wiring harness near the brake reservoir. The vehicle was not destroyed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who stated the abs module caused the fire. The contact also found out prior to the fire a recall remedy was performed on the vehicle in November 2008, under NHTSA campaign id number:07v156000(service brakes, hydraulic:antilock:control unit/module). The manufacturer was notified. The failure and current mileages were 173,000.
My 2001 Ford Escape caught fire on July 20, 2011 due to a leak and a short in the abs moduler. My insurance paid for everything except what caused the fire. I can not get Ford to allow me to claim my out of pocket expense due to the fire. The cause of the fire is now a recall, at the time of the fire it was a service letter. Please help me recover the money due me. I don't understand how the insurance can file a claim, but I can't.
It was happend about a year ago, especially under the hot weather condition. I am not sure that where the massive viblation sound comes from but most likely it feels through the steering wheel(steering shaft rod?) or brake pedal. When I first realized this problem, it was very hot summer day and air conditioner (ac) was on. I drove about for 15-20 minutes and parked the vehicle for a while (about 20 minutes or so). Then I started the engine again and tried to back up the vehicle from the parking spot, it was happened. After that happening, I was having same problem whenever I was driving with ac on(I did not have the problem during cold season at all). Now is summer of 2012 and this problem has been coming back most of time of driving no matter ac is on or off (it seems like getting worst?). Past 10 years, I had several recalls with this vehicle so I really want to report the broblem I have in case.
The contact owns a 2001 Ford Escape. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked in the residence garage, he smelled an odor of burning wires. Also, the contact noticed smoke emitting from under the hood and intense sparks from the abs module as a result of the melting wiring harness. There were no flames. The emergency brake and abs warning indicators illuminated two weeks prior to the failure. The abs module was disconnected and the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. There was a recall 07v156000 (service brakes, hydraulic: antilock: control unit/module) related to the failure; the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 103,000.
During my recent travel, my 2001 Ford Escape had a small fire burning the abs wiring while parked in the garage. The anti-lock control unit/module had a recall back in 2007, 07s51, and in 2008 the module was inspected. I brought the car into the same dealer that did the inspection once I realized what had recently happened to see if the recall would be honored, regardless of the inspection. I was told that the recall had been taken care of by the inspection, and there was nothing the dealer could do, unless they sold me a $2,000 part. I called Ford customer relations to inform them of my situation, and received the same response, "there is nothing that they can do to honor the recall". My main concern is my safety, and I could have been injured or my house could have caught fire. I am disturbed in the response by Ford regarding my safety and lack of assistance at the corporate level. I feel that Ford has a responsibility to its customers to insure safety, but did not receive that assurance. Regardless of the cause of the damage to the abs wiring, due to a faulty part my safety was at high risk. This is the first time I have had anything major occur with this vehicle, and have been fortunate of the vehicle's superb performance. I feel that the inspection "solution" of the recall did not prevent the wiring to catch fire, and should have been replaced either at the time of the recall or after the fire.
Just to put a little update on my posting, we were cussed out by the dealership and after the dealer told us to bring the truck in, which we did on our own expense not theirs we had it towed there, the mechanic that was supposed to inspect it told us to!@#$% off and made us leave. So we contacted the actual owner of the dealership and he called the dealer, dealer called us back and cussed us out for going above his head and told us if we wanted something done about the truck to contact a lawyer cause he isn't doing anything. Listen here Ford, grow the !@#$% up and start taking responsibility for your faults! used or not your dealers are responsible for what they sell on their lot that has the potential to be life threatening! Ford should be the ones going under, now were stuck with a 5 thousand dollar piece of !@#$%, we should have bought a chevy, atleast those are built to last, not a Ford, all they are is a guaranteed place to sell unsafe junk! I hope this economy eats you alive, you might have gotten my family for the money, but in the end karma will get you! I read so many reports, we go to you to buy a safe and reliable vehicle, haha your company is a joke!!!!! I cant wait to sell or destroy this junk of a truck and get something that actually stops! go chevy!! atleast chevy fixed the actual problems when they got the bail out. They fixed the abs problems. Anyone that has a Ford better keep your eye on the abs, tone rings and the abs control module. There is an obvious recall that needs to be done on all of them and its a shame we can all see that yet they cant, all they are out for is number one, once they get the cash, you are out a car. I think we should all get together and form a lawsuit against them. One person is minute, however, a crowd is a big voice to be heard! and from what I see, there are plenty of people that have problems with this company! I drive 1970s trucks with less problem then the 2001 Escape. Makin junk to get a quick dollar! shame shame.
We were heading home after getting our dinner, approached a stop light and applied the brakes, I then noticed the truck wasn't stopping and the brake pedal was stiff. I hit the brakes again, still nothing, again hit them as hard as I could, still nothing, so I swerved to miss the van infront of me and hit a telephone pole. We were going approximately 35 mph and there was no signs of braking on pavement or braking on the grassy area leading up to the telephone pole. We haven't had problems like this before, our brakes would vibrate every once in a while when applied. This was the first time we've had complete loss of brakes. My fiance resulted in bruises on her face and back spasms. My one year old daughter was also in the car and had no injuries, however, it took us months to get her to be calm in the car. We ended up having to buy a new carseat after just purchasing a few months before and I received a failure to control citation. I contacted Ford and they put my complaint into Ford legal group. I was upset because none of the airbags went off, had I been five more minutes down the road we would have been in a 55 mph zone. I was furious that the dealership sold me this vehicle after swearing up and down that it was one of the safest on their lot. We have yet to hear anything from Ford, we have received a letter from them lecturing us on the usage of the airbags, how they are meant to prevent fatalities not injuries. Our initial complaint was the vehicle did not stop! the owner of the dealership feels he's no liable because we bought used with no warranty. However, that does not excuse from selling multifunctional vehicle. We have fought with the dealership and legal group. The dealership is going to have it inspected to see what caused it. But he wants us to pay for it and I don't feel we should. Haven't we paid enough will all the crap this vehicle has caused?.
The contact owns a 2001 Ford Escape. While driving at an unknown speed on a local highway, the contact noticed smoke coming from the hood of the vehicle. He pulled the vehicle over, opened the hood, and noticed flames underneath the hood. He attempted to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher; however, the fire department arrived and extinguished it instead. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic shop. Through research, the contact discovered NHTSA campaign id number 07v156000 (service brakes, hydraulic:anti-lock:control unit/module) for the same failure. He went to the local Ford dealer and spoke with the service manager. On September 22, 2007, the dealer inspected the vehicle and stated that the recall repair had previously been repaired. Therefore, the service manager stated that Ford would not be responsible for any repairs that needed to be performed on the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were 104,000.
