7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2013

I have owned this vehicle since March 2013. I have not experience a problem with the throttle or gas pedal on this vehicle since owning it, but on Monday, 7/29/13, I had just driven about 18 miles at an average speed of 50 mph. I pulled up in front of my house at 11:00 pm and put vehicle in park. All of a sudden, the engine started racing to what sounded like the gas pedal being floored. I punched the gas pedal but nothing changed. I tried punching the pedal again with my foot, and still no change. I even reached down to see if the floor mat had interfered with the gas pedal, but it had not. I turned off the engine. The next morning, my boyfriend, aware of the issue, took it for a test drive, but the vehicle didn't replicate the problem. I called my mechanic on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 and made an appointment for the diagnosis and repair. The mechanic cannot get me in until next week. The appointment is set for wed. 8/7/13. I will not drive this vehicle in it's unpredictable condition.

I have been calling my local dealer to get my recalled car fixed. The customer service reps have told me they are unable to tell me if the dealer has the necessary part in stock. 13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2012

Ford motor company from: owners date: 6/8/2012 purpose: 2001 Ford Escape accident summary (accelerator pedal malfunction) dear Ford motor company, this letter is to formally document and notify the Ford motor company of an automobile accident which occurred as a result of an accelerator pedal malfunction on a 2001 Ford Escape XLT. Accident summary: on Friday June 8, 2012 at approximately 1:35 pm the accelerator pedal on our 2001 Ford Escape XLT malfunctioned when it automatically engaged, stuck, and accelerated beyond drivers desired speed. The driver then fully engaged the emergency brake providing some speed reduction, but the engine continued to force the vehicle forward. The driver steered the vehicle onto curbs and objects trying to find a way to slowdown the vehicle. The driver, having to make a quick and timely decision to stop the vehicle and protect herself and passengers from harm, served into a concrete overpass embankment in order to bring the vehicle to a stop and avoid a potentially more severe accident involving multiple parties in a highly populated location. 16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/21/2010

My 2001 Ford Escape 3. 0l v6, has an engine stalling problem, and an really bad emisions system failure. The exhaust fumes have been backing up into the vehicle for a long time now. My hair fell out, and no one seems to care. I contacted a Ford dealership, because I received a letter stating that under the state and federal emissions warranty, some components needed to be changed. However the dealer won't honor it, because the vehicle has over 80,000 miles. I bought the car used at 60,000 miles. I am not sure if the engine stalling has caused the emissions system to fail or the emissions system failure has caused the engine stalling. This has happened to my vehicle 3 times.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2002

6/10/02 engine stalled while off throttle at approx 30mph while slowing down to turn into a place of business. Lost all power to steering and brakes and narrowly missed hitting another car. Happened 4 times on the way to the dealer on the same date. Able to restart after putting in park. Dealer had car for the rest of the week and repaced pcm. On 6/22 engine stalled while going 40mph and exiting hwy 1 s on a very curvy exit ramp. Lost all power steering and brakes and had to manhandle it off to the side. Restarted by putting in park but had to wait till Monday to talk to service dept at dealer. On Monday 6/24 dealer would not take vehicle-too busy, and had to wait till 6/25 to deliver to dealer. Service person said it was ok to drive but I did not due to dangerous nature of the problem. Dealer received car on 6/25, had it for 4 days and replaced iac. The very next day after picking it up it stalled 2 times at 30mph off throttle. Rendered unusable for the weekend. Returned car to dealer for third time on 7/1 and they have had it ever since. Today is 7/16 and they say they have a temporart fix that should work till Ford issues a permanent fix. I am not risking my life and the lives of others who are unfortunate enough to be driving near me when it stalls so I am refusing vehicle and seeking a new identical replacement. Currently the dealer is communicating this to Ford. Dealer stalff has been polite, helpful, concerned, appologetic and willing to back me up against Ford. They have supplied me with an acceptable loaner vehicle the entire time my car has been down. This is a dangerous problem that Ford has to fess up to before more people get injured or even killed. It's intollerable and a corporate lack of responsibility to their customers. Please recommend a recall.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2001

My vehicle is a 2001 Ford Escape v6 XLT 4x4 purchased new (0 miles) in August. On Nov. 28, 2001, in the morning, after about 8 minutes of running and less than a mile of driving, I was going down a hill (on ramp to highway). I had accelerated to a coast of about 35-40 mph and was about to accelerate again when the vehicle completely shut off, many indicator lights appeared (as a result of the key being in the run position), power brakes and steering were lost. I shifted the vehicle to neutral and re-started while moving to avoid a rear-end collision. I reported the incident to the dealer as soon as possible and they scheduled me for 2 days later. The person on the phone was aware of Ford Escapes stalling yet when I discussed it with the service manager he said he had never heard of Escapes stalling and none had been in for service for this reason "to his knowledge". I perceived this as deceit. He then said he would conduct an "oasis" in which they receive information from Ford about known problems. After having the vehicle for the day, they told me nothing was wrong. I requested a list of what was done as required by new jersey law. I told them I did not feel safe in this vehicle and that this was their first attempt at fixing the problem. I also stated that if it happens again and they still do not fix the problem, I would seek a full refund under new jersey's lemon law, first by sending a certified letter to Ford. I would really prefer that the manufacturer fix this life threatning problem that many people are experiencing.

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2001

Vehicle stalled four times at speeds ranging from 10-40 mph. Lost power steering and brakes. Very unnerving and seems to pose a dangerous threat. Appears Ford has no fix or solution yet.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2001

Stalls when stepping on gas from a stop and when going from reverse to drive. Brought to dealer twice already since initial occurrnce. First time (9/22): said they couldn't find anything wrong. Second time (10/8): replaced iac valve (?). Still stalling the next day. Called dealer 10/didn't get back to me. Stopped at dealer on 10/said they were going to talk to a Ford tech (who didn't return their call). Also called Ford customer service and they talked to dealer (who told them same thing they told me). Now have to wait until Monday until I can talk to them again. Nobody seems to want to acknowledge this dangerous situation.

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2001

While accelerating vehicle stalled at 15 mph. Dealer replaced iac valve which was sticking.

31 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2001

Vehicle accelerates/surges, without warning when in reverse or automatic lst gear. This happens sporadictly, maybe once every 2-3 weeks, without warning. I took it to a local Ford dealer and nothing showed up on their computor. Their mechanic went on the Ford hotline and found that the problem was listed, and a possible fix suggested. The mechanic rehooked the vehicle back up to the computer and found that the fix had already been installed on the truck, and obviously was not working. An appologetic service rep. Handed me the keys and I drove home in my defective truck. This problem is also listing by other owners on Ford Escape owner websites.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2001

Car jumps suddenly forward/backward when easing into first gear or reverse. Had two near accidents, 1st- flew backwards just missing a tree, 2nd flew backward in parking lot nearly hitting a car and pedestrian. This problem is also posted by other Escape owners at a "escape" owner internet site, so it is not an isolated incident.

33 Vehicle Speed Control problem

There have been multiple times when pulling out of a street that the car comes to a stop; the rpms die off and pressing the gas does nothing, letting off the gas sometimes helps but it just takes a second for the gas to work, this is scarry since I am usually pulling out across 4 lanes of traffic. I have been to do the dealership 3 times for this but they can never find anything. The dealership changed an iac valve but the car continues to hesitate. The car did stall while going down a small hill; the brakes and steering completely went. I had to turn off car and restarted the car.
