Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Ford Escape. The contact stated that within 9 days of purchasing the vehicle from an independent dealer, the vehicle erupted into flames in a residential driveway. The contact stated that the dealer did not mention that the contact was included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 14v165000 (structure), 12v353000 (engine and engine cooling , vehicle speed control) and 12v005000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The contact stated that there was an abnormal noise coming from the front of the vehicle and that the suspension was unstable in the front. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop who inspected the vehicle and provided a diagnosis which was extensive. The vehicle was driven and shortly after the diagnosis the abs warning light randomly illuminated. The contact turned the vehicle off and the warning indicator went off but it continued to illuminate when the vehicle was driven. The vehicle was parked and when the contact exited the vehicle it erupted into flames. The fire department had to cut the hood open and inspected that the master cylinder was on fire as well as the fire wall. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and the contact was waiting on the manufacturer to determine what caused the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 151,703. Dyd.
For the past year and a half the abs warning light has been illuminated. I took it to the Ford dealership to have the latest recall fixed regarding the reservoir cap. Ford couldn't get the abs warning light to turn off. . . So, hence the light still intermidantly comes on and off. Also, the oil pressure light keeps coming on when I start my car and when I am slowing down. I just had my mechanic change the oil a week ago and and still having the problem. One last thing, the air bag illumination light has been on for the past two years. I took it to my dealer and they couldn't get it to turn off. Am I safe in thinking that my air bag won't deploy just for the heck of it? not sure what to do? but it scares me.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the air bag and abs warning lights illunimated on the instrument panel. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 110,000 and the current mileage was 166,000.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Escape XLT. The contact stated that the vehicle was serviced under NHTSA campaign id number :12v005000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock:control unit/module ). Later, the abs warning light illuminated while traveling 25 mph and the brakes failed to work properly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer confirmed that the abs control module needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not further repaired. The failure and current mileages were 111,053.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the abs warning light remained illuminated and the abs motor continued running once the engine was turned off. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where a diagnostic was performed, which located the failure at the hydraulic control unit. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign id number: 12v005000 (service brakes, hydraulic: antilock: control unit/module) prior to the failure. The contact was unable to have the vehicle serviced under the recall within a reasonable time period and believed that the failure was caused by the lack of recall service. The manufacture was contacted and denied any assistance with repairs, stating that the hydraulic control unit was not associated with the recall campaign. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 120,000.
When I first start my vehicle and begin driving it, unless I reach 20 mph before needing to brake, the brakes make a grinding noise and at first the pedal resists, then it gives way in, causing the brake to need to pressed down completely before the vehicle will come to a stop. Once I reach the 20 mph or so, the abs light comes on, and after that, the brakes work fine. I took it to my Ford dealership, they reportedly did not find a problem with the brakes, but performed a recall on only the abs light itself. This did nothing for the grinding resistance and failure of the brake pedal upon initially needing to stop, and still the abs light pops on once I reach 20-25 mph.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Escape. The contact was driving approximately 5 mph when the abs light waning illuminated and the contact detected an abnormal burning odor. The failure recurred sporadically but was not taken to the dealer or a mechanic for the failure. She referenced the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number: 07v156000 (service brakes, hydraulic:anti lock:control unit/module) and contacted the manufacturer who advised that her vehicle was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 105,000 and the current mileage was 106,000.
In December 2010 took my Ford Escape into my service center to have the brakes looked at when the abs light came on and the brake pressure felt sluggish. They found and replaced a bad tone ring on the left front axle. Now six months later June 2011 the abs light comes on again with the brake pedal pulsating at times. I took it back to the service center again and they had to do the same thing on the right side front. I feel that this is a safety issue. If someone would stop short in front of me or cut me off and I would have to slam on my brakes, I feel that someone could be seriously hurt. I feel that Ford should recall the 2002 Escape for this reason.
2002 Ford Escape parked in driveway. Last driven 5 hours earlier. The alarm sounded alerting my husband inside. He looked out of the window and saw smoke rolling from under the hood of the vehicle. He ran out with fire extinguisher and put out the flames. Hopefully, this immediate detection of the fire limited the amount of damage. We were more fortunate than several other complaints. The abs module appears to be where damage was sustained. This is a recall for several 2002 Escapes beginning in 2007, but when checking online with Ford, my VIN number states that there are no recalls on this particular vehicle. I didn't receive a recall notice from Ford, and have on other occasions for this vehicle. I investigated several complaints previously filed involving 2002 Escapes, and they are hauntingly the same scenario. Also, the VIN numbers on several of these are very similar to mine. Obviously, they have missed several of these dangerous components, or the website is incorrect. I was unable to phone Ford, as it is a weekend and will first thing Monday morning. My ecu on this vehicle was replaced and programmed at a Ford dealership in cottage grove, or in November of 2009. It was returned to me with the abs light still illuminated. The dealer made no mention to the light and I wrongly assumed that it wasn't a problem. I believe Ford must correct this situation financially and make sure that all 2002 Escapes are included in the recall. Many complaints I viewed were recent, so I conclude that the dangerous situation is not remedied.

I went out to crank my vehicle and it ran wide open. I turned it off and tried it twice more with the same results. The security officer at my workplace came over and raised the hood to see what was going on. Twice more I cranked it with the same results. Then he found the problem my speed control cable was no longer connected. He got it back on and advised me to go to my dealer. The following day they had me bring it in, they informed me that my particular vehicle was not on the recall list. They were going to order the part, and when I asked the chances of it happening again, they replaced the regular speed cable and disconnected the cruise control one until they could get one in, just in case. I didn't get to see any list, I just know there was a recall on my type of vehicle for this. Am I to just take their word for it? I thank the lord that I was sitting in a parking lot when it happened and not out on the road where it could have been a very bad situation. Also when they said I was ready they asked how long my abs light had been blinking--I told them it was blinking the day I test drove and the salesman was going to ask about it when we got back to the dealer. I never got an answer. If either of these are faulty and were never reported I'd like to know. Other people may experiencing the same thing. And if these cables have been replaced before and it's happened again, people need to know. I thank you for your help.

I took my car in for repair on 4/22/06 because my abs light had been on for a few days. I was told that my right drive axle needed to be replaced and that replacing that could possibly solve the problem with my abs light. It did not. I was then told that I might need a new abs module. I was advised that the repair shop would call the following Monday with a price and that my car was safe to drive.
The abs braking light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. Consumer applied the brakes and pedal went to the floor. Consumer was able to stop while pumping the brake three times, and drove vehicle to the dealer for inspection. However, mechanic could not duplicate the problem.
