Gas Tank Strap problems of the 2002 Ford Escape

While filling gas tank heard a loud pop,after arriving at destination had someone look under car and discovered tank straps rusted and broke leaving nothing to hold gas tank in place. No other rusty or rusted parts under car. Had dealer repair at a cost of $725.
