I was heading back to louisville ky from bowling green ky when my SUV started to slow down and started running rough and check engine light flashed then stayed on I pulled off the road called aaa to have the SUV towed back to bowling green to where I could have it checked the next day when I went to start it it was knocking and smoking and wouldn’t take gas. Talked to a local shop and was informed that my motor was blown after he came and looked at it.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? sudden unintended acceleration how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the breaks wouldn't take and I ended up stopping when I hit a house has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? called Ford for help and they said to file a report here. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no my car has been always in great working condition.
Vehicle is shutting down at various speeds (stop safely now) message. . . . Will run and then shut down- dangerous. Saw recalls 14v-526 NHTSA & 14s19 manufacturer. I called Ford and no recall noted for this coolant drive pump exchange.
While driving and the car is in motion the gas pedal has locked in an idle position. This happens intermittently. Although the car is in motion suddenly there is no longer any forward momentum since the car is no longer moving forward. My only option is to coast to the side of the road. Sometimes I can turn the car off and on which seems to reset the gas pedal and then I can continue on my way. This is extremely dangerous since any one can hit me. This has happened several times.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. While driving approximately 25 mph, the engine, steering, and brakes failed without warning. The vehicle was restarted and driven to the dealer where it was diagnosed that all six emission coils failed and fractured the pcm. The six emission coils, power train control module, and spark plugs were replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. While driving approximately 45 mph, the instrument panel illuminated and the engine abruptly shut down. The gear shifter was placed in the neutral position and the vehicle was coasted over to the side of the road. The vehicle was restarted and driven home. The vehicle was hooked up to a handheld diagnostic machine and displayed, "bad pcm and bad coils". The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

After driving even short distances, the vehicle is real real hot. Had new brakes put on and they still squeel.
Drove from washington state to utah on family vacation 14nov15. Filled up with gas in boise, I. D. And 1 mile into that drive felt a surge and then slight loss of power driving at 70mph. Then it was fine. When we got into spanish fork, ut. We had a loss of power when we came off the high way and contacted our friend who's dad owns his own mechanic shop k&k auto in spanish fork, ut. He got the codes cleared and said the codes were not making any sense as to the possible loss in power. The vehicle ran real good after getting codes cleared. The next morning we headed out on i15 on our trip to our vacation destination and it did it again as we got on the high way, I use an injector cleaner in case that was the problem as my friends dad had suggested. We got to fillmore, ut. And we loss total power and steering control. We coasted off onto an exit ramp there we were about to pass when it happened. Had our vehicle towed to the only mechanic opened at the time on a Saturday afternoon. He said the same thing about the codes. Then he said we had a bad catalack-converter. We had it towed back to our friends dads shop an hour and a half north. The next day he said he thinks it may be the coils but the codes say all of them. So we had him take it to Ford in provo, ut while we rented a car and had some of our vacation, most of it we missed spending days waiting on a word from Ford service after we got in from our couple of days we did get in of our vacation. We thought they were going to do the work while we were gone, but no. Now we are home after paying $730. - for injectors and a new coil. (I thought) they still have our vehicle in the bay getting new catalack converters put on(both) and is an additional $1900. - plus to make it worse they called today and said all the coils have to be replaced. I thought that was done, apparently not, and this is not rare for 2005 Escapes, OH.
I was driving home from wok at 10:15pm when the engine completely shut down. I had the vehicle towed to the local Ford dealer. They determined there was a problem with the pcm and coils. A family member had had the same problem with her 2005 Ford Escape. I checked with the dealer to see if there was a recall for this problem, but was told there was not. Hower, information on carcomplaints. Com stated that there was a recall issued in October, 2014. I was not notified of the recall. Upon calling Ford, I was told that my vehicle was not part of the recall, and the vehicle is out of warranty, and I was responsible for the repair. The total cost of the repair was over $2,00,which I feel I should be reimbursed for. How can Ford pick and choose which vehicles they will repair? evidently safety is of no concern to them.
Was driving at highway speed (appx 55mph) in 5 o'clock traffic in raleigh, nc on us 1 and the vehicle lost speed. All emergency lights came on. Forced to pull the vehicle off onto the shoulder and was almost rear ended. The vehicle sputtered and totally cut off. Attempted to restart the vehicle but it kept cutting off. I was unable to restart the vehicle and was stranded on the highway. After a call to a family member and to aaa, the car was towed home 3 hours later. The next day, the car was towed to crossroads Ford in cary, nc. They determined that the pcm, spark plugs and ignition coils all failed at once and charged me $2700. Error codes p0351, p0354 and p0353 appeared on the diagnostics. The vehicle was repaired the next day. This is a huge safety issue since the vehicle suddenly undergoes a catastrophic failure with loss of power and acceleration and could lead to an accident.
While driving about 30 mph, the car started sputtering as if it were running out of gas. I was near a gas station and as I was pulling in, the engine just stopped and the power steering went dead. The car then wouldn't restart. I called aaa and they couldn't start it, so I had the car towed to the Ford dealership. They examined the car and later that day told me the coils overheated and fried the pcm. Now it needs new coils on 2 cylinders, possibly more, and a new pcm with reprogramming. Cost quoted was $3520. The service tech that looked at the car said he hasn't seen this before, nor heard of this. After researching this problem online, I don't believe him. I wonder how many people haven't reported this because they were made to think their problem was a very rare occurrence.
I bought a used 2005 Ford Escape limited 6 days ago it was running fine no problems lights or warnings. Then I was driving down the highway accelerating to 50mph and my dashboard lit up like a christmas tree and stopped running. I towed it back to where I got it and they stated that the computer waa fried. Now I am waiting for them to replace it. I have seen similiar complaints about the same model and year. Fried computer due to ignition coils. I believe with as many complaints about this recurring problem there should be a recall, but I guess we have to wait till someone dies because of it. A shame that's the only way things get done.
My 2005 Ford Escape 3. 0 v6 had a coil issue that Ford knew about and sent service bulletins to dealers, but not the affected parties. The coils were defective from a vendor and when they failed, burnt out the psm, making the automobile unusable and expensive to fix. Ford has known about this since 2011 and has done nothing to rectify it, or help, all of those whose Escapes have stopped running completely. Mine had this go out and now the parts are on back order for months, as well as incredibly expensive. Please help to get Ford to order a recall on this for all of us.
I turned a corner and was only going 20 mph when the vehicle went dead. I had no control so luckily I wasn't going fast. I stopped the vehicle. I had to get it towed. One mechanic said my coils and spark plugs were bad because of the fuel rail pressure sensor malfunction. Second opinion - the pcm needed to be reprogrammed or replaced. Third opinion - all of the above. It costs $1900 and two tow bills ($275). The engine light had been on for several months. The only code was the fuel rail pressure sensor high input (p0193 generic).
My son was driving the car and it started to sputter. Did the same thing the next time it was driven and has ever since. I had it to two mechanics which said that the #4 was misfiring and start coil problem. Replaced. . Not working still. Have talked to two dealerships about it one told me to have it towed to them. Going to one closer so that I can talk to them. Both say there is a problem. From what I have read Ford company has not issued a recall to fix it. Not sure if I will be able to afford it. I prefer Ford but may have to go with a different Ford vehicle. We have had everything else but there is nothing like a Ford. Our last Ford truck was a 93 and we just got rid of it a year and a half ago still running. I do not want to give up on my Fords.
Driving down the highway at approx 50 mph, then without warning, simultaneously the dashboard lights came on and the vehicle immediately quit running.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the engine warning light illuminated as the vehicle lost acceleration power. The vehicle was taken to a repair center and the mechanic stated that the spark plugs, coils, computer and the catalytic converter had to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 147,000. The VIN was not available.
The car would not run got it to the repair shop. Told me it was the pcm, 6 coils and spark plugs all needed to be replace ($2k to fix). I called Ford they seem to know about this issue. Told me even though the car is an 05 it was made in 04 so they could not help. I was told there was a program to fix this issue had to be within 8 years and 80k miles. Bad spark plugs are to blame. I disagreed 05 to 2013 is 8 years, they say no because it was made 10/14/04 so it would put me at 9 years 71k miles. I argued it was sold in 05 and that is what they should go by, they disagreed. After researching this online several people have had this same issue with the same year make and vehicle.
The gas pedal was stuck after mashing on it hard it broke loose when approching a stop sign I stopped and try to go again but gas pedal was stuck why is there not a recall. I also have transmission and rearend problems but they both are costly repairs I am concerned about the gas pedal please fix it before someone gets hurt there really should be a recall on it.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the engine began to operate roughly. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic for inspection where they stated that the computer needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000. The VIN was unavailable.
My wife was driving all of sudden vehicle kept accelerating without her foot being on the gas pedal. She was traveling at 25mph when vehicle accelerated to 45mph on its own. She had to take action to avoid havving an accident. The vehicle now will rev high when first turning on vehicle. The longer vehicle runs the higher the engine revs and increases speed on its own.
Vehicle was shipped to germany due to military duty. A week later after delivered, my wife was driving it going down a short hill when the vehicle turned off completely and brakes were not functioning. My wife had to stop the vehicle with parking break. After that the engine was losing power and the alarm was going off very often. We drove the vehicle few occasions and it turned off couple of times again. I ordered the part and replaced it in 2014. The vehicle is running fine, however the alarm still going off and engine light is on again on dashboard. At this point I do not know if the vehicle is indicating the same problem or something new.
While driving the car completely went dead. Everything turned off. Had to drift to side of the road. Technician told me it was a pcm problem and needs to replace, coils, plugs and pcm.
I have a random incident with my Ford Escape 2005, where at times when on cruise control, the engine will accelerate unexpectedly. After many years of driving, and attempting to file a complaint about the issue with Ford but refused as it wasn't reproducible when allotted, I think this issue occurs because the cruise control has self adjusted itself when towing a trailer. But after detaching the trailer and taking the truck for a long hilly ride, the engine computer may think it's still towing a trailer and strongly accelerate the engine when going uphill with the cruise control on. This is only based on what I have experience, and include no computer log examination. Not the best thing to happen if a police car is around, and being a safe driver. I'm not too concerned about this issue, as I self manage the issue. (tend to self manage a lot of things these days. ) this vehicle has served me quite well, except for a loud knock on the front drive axle on this awd - likely a bad bearing that they didn't fix when they fixed it initially. Shrugs.
Our 2005 Ford Escape has a surging problem. When stopped at a light, every once in a while the engine will suddenly speed up. To keep it from moving forward you have to press hard on the brake pedal. A Ford dealership wanted $85. 00 to diagnose the problem. This is unacceptable for a safety problem.
After luckily just exiting interstate 70, but entering highway 40 my vehicle completely died with all electrical functions inoperative (obviously including power brakes, steering, etc). This occurred on an upgrade with a city bus directly behind me which was forced to swerve into the adjacent lane. Auto would not restart and it was towed to a neighboring Ford dealership. There was absolutely no warning of a check engine light etc. At the dealership I was informed that an "electrical engine module" had burned out which also completely fried all the engine coils. (a complete electrical tune-up,etc. Had been performed about a year earlier). I was also informed that the diagnosis was possible because of a Ford internal memo indicating what could happen if the module malfunctioned. The good news is that I had just exited an interstate, but this could have been disastrous and it seems that Ford was aware of the possibility of this problem. The cost now to fix the problem is $2600 and I have no assurance that this couldn't happen again with more severe squealed.
This is being resubmitted, since I believe the reevaluation of the 09 and newer Ford Escapes is the same problem that has been occurring with the earlier year Ford Escapes, but has not received review. A defective pcm which causes complete auto shutdown, burning out the coils, etc. Has documented complaints all over the internet in car complaint and buying sites for this vehicle. The pcm is defective on the Escape and when it stops functioning all power is lost, and this occurs without warning leaving one without brakes, power steering, etc. This has been a known problem with Ford and yet Ford refuses to correct the problem and the bill is in the neighborhood of $2500-3000 to be shouldered by the customer. Malfunction, however, has more ominous sequelae than monetary cost, in that it may cost lives from crashes. Ford should recall these vehicles to repair the causation, but obviously Ford needs pressure from the public and in particular the NHTSA !.
My car's gas pedal felt like it became stuck, almost feeling like the car was in neutral even though it was in drive. I was on a hill. Then suddenly it sped off fast with a jolt. Our mechanic said it needs a new throttle. After doing research on my car's make & model, it appears that this has been an ongoing concern. It's very dangerous.
After totaling a 2004 Escape, I purchased another 2005 Escaped because I loved it. Well not so much anymore. I bought the vehicle from a dealership in September 2012. Only three short months later I started having the exact same problem I am reading in all complaints. I tried to push on the gas and nothing. It was misfiring bad. I then took it too a shop and they told me coils 1, 3, and 5 were out and needed to be replaced. The dealership wanted close too $2,000 to repair it. I was furious because I had bought my 2004 from the same dealership and my family alone had purchased a total of 6 vehicles from the dealership. I was a loyal customer and was not going to pay to have it fixed. So they split the cost of $1000 with me. Now it is acting up again and I've replaced the fuel filter and the thermostat bc thats what the computer said only for it to still not be running. I am a single mother, college student, and server and it's 2 days before christmas so I am very disappointed! fix the problem Ford!!.
Engine computer ceased to function and the car completely died. Pcm required repair. Known issue, Ford needs to remedy this!!.
I was trying down the highway doing about 55 mph all the lights came on the car, I was able to get to the side of the road. I stopped the car for about 5 minutes was able to restart and drive another 1/2 mile and it happened again. Got the car towed to a mechanic, who placed engine on code machine and states my engine coils were bad. Replaced all of my engine coils and the car is still riding like a dump trunk. Took do a Ford dealership who charged me 160. 00 to put on machine and told me it was my engine coils, I have replaced all the coils. I am just at my witts end. I will not ever buy a Ford again. As a side note, I put a transmission in this truck about 2 years ago and the dealer who fixed my car, didn't even give me a rental to drive. Its a new and used car dealership and they couldn't even give me one of their cars to drive. Are you serious?.
Driving at any speed, vehicle will suddenly loose engine power and engine will stutter or shake as someone pulled out one spark plug and vehicle is trying to compensate. Engine light will flash during this time aprox 40 seconds and then engine will catch and resume normal driving. Does not matter if engine is hot or cold, short or long distance this will happen randomly with out warning. Ac off heat off ac on heat on does not matter. We are now trying to google the problem and see what others have done with the same problem. Ford has been no help after reading the codes they try to fix what my personal mechanic has already replaced. Codes always read the same thing coils, fuel injection all have already been replaced and problem persists. Has been in to repair numerous times and spent 1,000's of dollars on vehicle.
It was two days after I got the car, I was driving home from manassas to fairfax, all of a sudden the engine light came on the truck started to sputter and I lost acceleration in my truck. I was on 495 at night and the dash board stated that the car would shut down so that the engine would not over heat. I had to call a tow truck to pep boys in annandale, va and they fixed the problem. But, I still have acceleration problems after it was fixed. I will take it back to pepboys to find out if it is the same problem.
