1 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2020

Was driving less than 15mph when suddenly I lost all control of steering on the front passenger side. When I was able to get help after sitting on the side of the road for 16 hours, I was informed that one of the three wheel bearings had snapped. I did a little research and found the recall for the passenger side wheel assembly and bearings. I entered my VIN number and it didn't say whether or not it would be fixed. I take pride in my vehicles and keep the maintenance up to date, therefore I can say they this happened due to faulty parts and feel like I should be able to have it fixed.

2 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2015

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. While driving at various speeds, the contact heard an abnormal noise. The contact maneuvered the vehicle to the side of the road and observed that the rear passenger side undercarriage was corroded. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rear passenger wheel bearing needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 211,000.

4 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated the vehicle made a loud noise while driving. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the failure was located at the passenger rear well area, which was severely corroded and caused the bolts and struts to corroded and separate from the well. The contact stated that the front and rear wheel bearings were replaced but was unaware if the replacement was due to corrosion. The vehicle well was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and the current mileage was 161,000.

5 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2011

Rubbing sound coming from left front (driver's side) wheel well. Diagnosed by Ford as a "loose" wheel bearing. Sounds more like a failure. Ford charged $47 to "diagnose" the problem. Seems like maybe they already knew what it might be and let 3 techs soak up some clock time on this one. The original charge was quoted at $95 so I guess we got off better than some.

6 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2010

Has been a loud noise coming from the right front wheel. There was a great deal of vibration on the floorboard of the car. Took it to repair shop and found I needed a new wheel bearing on the passenger side front wheel. The car only has 32,393 miles on it even though it's a 2005. I bought it new and haven't driven it hard. Warranty, of course, ran out 2 years ago.

7 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2008

Wheel bearings started to fail @35,000 miles. Dealer said noise was half shaft bearing and replaced it. They said noise after repair was road noise and 18,000 miles later the wheel bearings needed to be replaced and the noise was gone. Should have been replaced at 35,000 miles and been under warranty but instead we had to pay $700 out of pocket due to poor judgement on dealer mechanic.

8 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2007

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. While driving approximately 30 mph on normal road conditions, the contact heard a loud grinding noise coming from the front driver's side wheel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the failure was related to a defective wheel bearing. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. On a separate occasion, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for identical failures involving the front passenger wheel. The vehicle has not been repaired again. The failure mileage was 23,000 and current mileage was 37,800.
