1 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2013

Backing out of garage car died. Trying to accelerate at stop lights tries to die hesitates jerks theft light cones on. Upon trying to accelerate to enter freeway same thing and when trying to pass a car. Came upon s hill and it almost died n would not go over 50 mph almost causing wrecks very scary day. Earlier in week died a couple times while idling but this accelerating problem is hazardous. If it is throttle body which it probably is from what I'm reading on the internet. Please do a recall and fix this!!!!!!!!.

2 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2012

I have experienced several cases over the years with the 2005 Ford Escape seeming to idle very-very low and when attempting to accelerate (for instance from a stop sign) the acceleration is very very slow and then ramps up after a few seconds. This occurs intermittently but regularly and despite taking it to several repair shops, none have managed to provide a reasonable explanation but have all recognized it. Recently I have noticed issues, especially at highways speeds, of the vehicle "shuddering" as if the brakes are having trouble slowing the vehicle which im concerned may be from the throttle not disengaging properly when released (almost like its stuck or frozen). We have recently in my region of the country been experiencing a few cold snaps and that brings me to the most recent issue. When attempting to use the vehicle today, I noticed that the accelerator seemed "stuck" or frozen. I depressed it a few times, no luck as it seemed "frozen". I took it to mean that the cold (it got down below f. In georgia) and let it run for a bit to warm. I pushed accelerator and it seemed unstuck. I put in reverse and attempted to accelerate backwards. I found the pedal would not come off the floorboard. I stopped the vehicle and after looking at the pedal, I was able to move it freely and looking at the connection I thought it had broken or became disconnected. I came back from work after getting ride from wife and went to inspect it. The pedal this time acted as expected although I could hear squeaking and it thumped when I hit the brakes. It seems that the cod had frozen something or exacerbated whatever was causing issues in general. I called Ford and they mentioned something had been done in 06 and then I read article about 17 year old who died after her Escape throttle became stuck in a similar way after having a recent repair.

3 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2010

During cold weather conditions the gas pedal becomes stiff and at times difficult to depress.

4 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

When weather gets cold accelerator pedal gets stuck when trying to start vehicle and sticky when driving for a time after that. Sometimes feels like it doesn't want to stop at stop signs or lights, like its still getting fuel. Dealer wanted to change out throttle body for an outrageous amount. From my research this is a wide spread problem.

5 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2010

Sticking gas pedal. Seems to be more prevelant in the cooler weather. The pedal will lock up and no amount of force will make it depress. Especially dangerous when a big truck is barrelling down you. Have lubricated the assembly but this does not help. Only way to fix ( and it doesn't always happen right away ) is to manipulate the pedal with my foot and try differnt pressure points.

6 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

My gas pedal was sticking off and on a few days before sept, 1, 2010. On sept. 1, 2010 I was driving and the gas pedal cable went. I have never heard of gas pedal just breaking. I was on busy street and lost all power.

7 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2010

2005 Ford Escape XLT v6. Since purchasing vehicle in 2005 we have had problem refueling. Vehicle takes fuel slowly with frequent shutoffs prior to full. The problem has gotten to the point now that it shoot the fuel back out of the neck almost immediately when you turn on the pump, even as slow as you can run the pump. In the past when I have talked to the dealer they have told me slow filling is normal for these cars. It has reached the point where it will cause a fire and probably injury if not a fatality. What can I do if the dealer won't or can't fix it?.

8 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2010

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact started the ignition in the morning on a cold start, and when accelerating there was a delay in the response time. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician stated that there was water in the throttle body which could cause speed control failure such as a stuck throttle. The throttle was replaced for the malfunction. The identical failure occurred on a separate occasion. The contact had concern of a potential safety hazard involving a complete loss of power under acceleration. The failure mileage was 12,000. The current mileage was 76,000. The contact stated there was a complaint previously filed with the identical failures.

9 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2010

Ford Escape 2005 4 cylinder, manual transmission, bought new. At about 40,000 miles accelerator pedal sticks and will not depress unless pushing it several times. Lasted about a month and went away. Now at 74,000 miles it has come back. Has happened about 4 times in the last week. While shifting pedal will stick.

10 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2010

I recently purchased a 2005 Ford Escape from my cousin. As I was purchasing the vehicle he did explain to me how the pedal would stick on cold days. Going into buying it from him I soon realized what he meant. He had taken it in to the Ford dealership to get it fixed. They sprayed a cleaner on the throttle body to remove residue. When I heard of the Toyota recall I called whoolwhine Ford Lincoln Mercury here in ms where I live to see if my vehicle was also one. I was told that this was not the first time he had heard this and to spray stuff in the throttle body until it wouldn't let me anymore. Well, I am very worried about this situation. As a mom with a small child, I worry about the majority of other people and families that my die from this malfunction. What it does is the pedal gets so hard to push until you can not get gas to the ignition to make the vehicle go. I have had this happen to me several times. I can even crank the Escape long before my journey and it still sticks. Well, yesterday was the worst day ever. I am a mom and a student in school. I had gotten to school and finished my class when it was time to leave. I got in the vehicle and started to leave OH boy the pedal worked. I got to the first intersection to where when it was my time to go the pedal was hard. I had to coast through it and pull over. Finally got it soft again and went to the closest place to get a bite to eat. Sat there for at least 5 min letting it run hoping it would fix the problem for that time. When I was leaving it was hard again and I had alot of vehicles behind me so I coasted to the nearest bank. It took 10 minutes for me, while I kept pushing on my gas pedal for nothing. It is so hard you cant make it go. So, in telling you this that is 3 times I could of had a crash. I take my daughter to school and some morning I pray all the way that I make it without anything harming her. It is bad when you end up coasting through an intersection.

11 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2009

Gas petal sticks when trying to accelerate, especially in cold weather. This has left me stuck in traffic, in turning lanes, @ stop lights not able to move my car. Big safety issue.

12 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2009

I own a 2005 Ford Escape and the gas pedal sticks in place. You cannot press down on the pedal to increase your speed. Ford states there is no problem. . . . . . . It does it no matter what the temperature is, what time of day, etc. You press down and the gas pedal remains in place.

13 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2009

My 2005 Ford Escape gas pedal sticks horribly. It is constantly sticking, and has almost caused us numerous wrecks. Ford tried to charge me $360 to replace the fuel filter. I did not go through with it. I paid $120 for a new throttle cable and it didn't fix it as well. I'm at the point where it is to dangerous to be driven with my family, and I do not trust the vehicle one bit.

14 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2006

From a stop this vehicle has a problem with the throttle. It is intermittent, but when it occurs you unable to press the throttle. It is jammed. It seems if I place the gear shift back into park then to drive it will be free again and drive normally. This started happening once in a while years ago, but seems to be occurring a lot more frequently now.

15 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2006

Fuel mileage is terrible. 11/12 city and 15/16 highway, dealer checked this problem twice and found nothing. Stating I'm not alone.

16 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2005

The contact stated there has been a smell of fuel in the vehicle since purchase. The dealership replaced the catalytic converter, but this did not correct the problem. The vehicle was taken back to the dealership, and they were unable to diagnose the problem. The manufacturer was suppose to send a field technician to inspect the vehicle. The fumes caused the contact's nose to burn, made her nauseous and made it impossible to drive. Updated 1/11/2006.

17 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2004

We purchased a 2005 Ford Escape limited from courtesy Ford in portland, oregon, on August 29, 2004. The car is getting 11/12 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway. We took it to the dealer the week before christmas and after some testing they were not able to fix this defect. Since you advertise 18 mpg/24 mpg and that we based our purchase decision upon that factor, I would like this problem fixed. We either got a lemon or you're guilty of deceptive advertising. Either way, it doesn't make me want to purchase another Ford or recommend Ford to my family and friends. I am looking in to my options, and am contacting you because I would like to find out as quickly as possible what Ford does in these instances -- how well do you stand behind your product? you've got a great website and devote space to your "environmental works". . . Well guess what? 11 mpg is not good for the environment -- a hummer gets better mileage than my car at this point. I hope to hear from you this week. I would like one of three things to happen. 1) fix the car so it gets the advertised mileage; 2)replace the car with one that does get the advertised mileage; or 3) give us a full refund.
