1 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2023

I had the hybrid battery replaced by bill brandt Ford in brentwood California. A few days after having it replaced. The car broke down on a very dangerous highway. I had the car towed back to bill brandt Ford. They replaced the hybrid battery again. I received the car back on may 9. The car just broke down again today. Roughly bill brandt Ford had my car for over 250 days. I found a recall one for s as in sam 19 for my vehicle when I type in the VIN number it says that it doesn’t pertain to my car. But when I look at the recall issue, my car is having the exact same problems. Now I need to have the car towed back yet again to the dealership. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have over $3000 invested in this car now with bill brandt Ford and they’ve had it longer than I’ve had it.

2 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2023

Stalled out while driving down hwy. At 70 mph. Cars swirved and I almost got hit from behind due to my vehicle just cutting out. No warning lights came on it just shut off battery light n engine light then came on after vehicle lost power and I had to get off road without causing an accident which almost occurred due to the speed and area I was driving at time vehicle cut out I still have not figured out why it just cut out. Very dangerous all around.

3 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2022

Drove vehicle to drop off dog at sitters, started vehicle began to make u-turn and vehicle stalled. Attempted to restart, cranks but won't run. Recently purchased from used car dealer, new battery was installed, no trouble up to this point. Began checking usual problems, fuel delivery, crank pos. Sensor, cam pos sensor, have no spark. Upon further research this appears to be faulty coils, spark plugs and pcm from factory but no recall has been employed. Possibility of collision during u-turn very likely. Loss of power to all systems could cause extreme risk to life at higher speeds. Ford motor company is aware of this problem, with the high number of similar problems in the NHTSA data base it is impossible for them not to know. The NHTSA should force Ford to fix this. If you make a product that can be dangerous if faulty, you are responsible to the public to do the right thing. I think that if the governmental agency responsible for traffic safety won't do their job then a class action lawsuit should be started. I bet I could find a good lawyer in the sf bay area.

4 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2020

My 2005 Ford Escape v6 stalls out skips sputters and my truck jerks really bad then anti theft symbol on dashboard comes on and truck switches off and back on in the middle of highway with traffic while driving down the road . Very dangerous. Also making a thumping noise from in the air intake. Gas pedal cable wire broke . So many problems with this vehicle. I believe there are several recalls. Please let me know so the Ford company can fix whatever it is that may be under recall. Thanks!.

5 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2018

Engine starts up fine and idles with no problems. While driving, vehicle in motion, the engine will stall and start over and over or will stall out completely. This has only happened at speeds of 35mph+ and has happened at interstate speeds causing a very potentially dangerous and life threatening condition.

6 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2018

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v777000 (fuel system gasoline). The contact stated that the recall repair was exceeding a reasonable amount of time. The contact did contact a dealer (brenengen Ford (615 black river street, sparta, WI 54656) who confirmed the remedy parts are unavailable. VIN tool confirms parts not available. Jc.

7 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2017

Gas pedal getting stuck/not working off and on for last year; gasket was replaced, now recently sticking again. Today, was on arterial when pedal stuck, luckily no traffic as for several minutes vehicle would not move. Got pedal unstuck after several tries and lifting with toe, so was able to get home. Car in shop now. Dangerous!.

8 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2017

When the vehicle stops, engine shuts down. If I start it again it turns on just fine but everytime I stop at a light or at traffic, the engine stalls. Went to the Ford dealer and they cant tell what is happening because there is no check engine light turned on. They checked it and everything was fine, battery, oils. They say there is a recall for the throttle position sensor but the deadline for this was on January 2015. Now Ford wont repair my vehicle because it has more than 10 years old (it has less than 116,000 miles).

9 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2016

Bought used the vehicle intermittently would stall, put in neutral it would crank right up and idle fine, until you put in gear and it would stall out, wait awhile and it would run fine, and it might go 2,3 or 4 weeks and not stall. Now it will not go at all, cranks up put it in gear and it is like it is not getting fuel and stalls out. I have had it to some repair shops and they can not find any problem, but I have one mechanic telling me it is the torque converter and might as well redo transmission also. I am disabled and a veteran on a fixed income and depend on my vehicle to take me to my doctor appts, grocery store, church etc. So any help or information on this issue would be greatly appreciated, also I don't know if it makes any difference but my father worked for fmc for 48yrs.

10 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2016

Bought my 05 XLT Escape last may 2015 and all of a sudden it started to shudder stall while idling and just completely die when I was driving on the highway! got the codes read and it said I had a misfire on cylinder 2, so I put new coils and spark plugs in it but it's still not working! still doing a misfire and it's running bad when it decides to crank up! now it's not even drivable.

11 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2015

Drove from washington state to utah on family vacation 14nov15. Filled up with gas in boise, I. D. And 1 mile into that drive felt a surge and then slight loss of power driving at 70mph. Then it was fine. When we got into spanish fork, ut. We had a loss of power when we came off the high way and contacted our friend who's dad owns his own mechanic shop k&k auto in spanish fork, ut. He got the codes cleared and said the codes were not making any sense as to the possible loss in power. The vehicle ran real good after getting codes cleared. The next morning we headed out on i15 on our trip to our vacation destination and it did it again as we got on the high way, I use an injector cleaner in case that was the problem as my friends dad had suggested. We got to fillmore, ut. And we loss total power and steering control. We coasted off onto an exit ramp there we were about to pass when it happened. Had our vehicle towed to the only mechanic opened at the time on a Saturday afternoon. He said the same thing about the codes. Then he said we had a bad catalack-converter. We had it towed back to our friends dads shop an hour and a half north. The next day he said he thinks it may be the coils but the codes say all of them. So we had him take it to Ford in provo, ut while we rented a car and had some of our vacation, most of it we missed spending days waiting on a word from Ford service after we got in from our couple of days we did get in of our vacation. We thought they were going to do the work while we were gone, but no. Now we are home after paying $730. - for injectors and a new coil. (I thought) they still have our vehicle in the bay getting new catalack converters put on(both) and is an additional $1900. - plus to make it worse they called today and said all the coils have to be replaced. I thought that was done, apparently not, and this is not rare for 2005 Escapes, OH.

12 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2015

When driving car shuts off. Car starts in park when put in gear shuts off. Driving on highway when slowed down in traffic car shut off, and would would start in park but shut off when put in gear.

13 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2015

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. After driving over a bump, there was an abnormal noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact discovered that the rear shock towers were rusted. In addition, the contact stated that a fuel odor emitted inside the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 74,000.

14 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

Ehicles gas pedal gets stuck up and cannot be depressed at all while car is on and I am driving. It happened this week several times on very cold days. While driving or while stopped at light and trying to go I cannot depressed the pedal, even when pushing hard. Eventually it depressed for me after several tries. Vehicle gas pedal has also gotten stuck down twice previously with car accelerating uncontrollably, which happened for almost a minute then it popped up - resulted in near collision { thank goodness its a manual transmission]. I have read in many on-line discussion boards of many other individuals having their gas pedal on Ford Escapes stick up or down also.

15 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2014

The accelerator pedal will not go down/forward at first (once lasted about 45 minutes) on cold mornings. Why hasn't this year/make/model been recalled like 2006? I've been late for work several times because of this. I love the car otherwise.

16 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2014

Gas pedal sticks, especially in cold weather.

17 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2014

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v526000 (hybrid propulsion system) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Ah.

18 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2014

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. While driving at approximately 70 mph, an unknown warning light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The contact restarted the vehicle, but the failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure was unable to be replicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received a notice for NHTSA campaign number: 14v526000 (hybrid propulsion system). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was not available.

19 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2014

Driving hm from wk, 5fwy car stall coast to the side called aaa to be towed to ef1 motorsports inc. I was informed that this was a manufacture problem for this year SUV 2005. The wrong computer system was installed the cost to repair $1443. 06. I would like a refund.

20 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2014

I turned a corner and was only going 20 mph when the vehicle went dead. I had no control so luckily I wasn't going fast. I stopped the vehicle. I had to get it towed. One mechanic said my coils and spark plugs were bad because of the fuel rail pressure sensor malfunction. Second opinion - the pcm needed to be reprogrammed or replaced. Third opinion - all of the above. It costs $1900 and two tow bills ($275). The engine light had been on for several months. The only code was the fuel rail pressure sensor high input (p0193 generic).

21 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

I was driving my Ford Escape 2005 and it completely shuts off, the steering wheel got very hard!!! it was very difficult to steer,.

22 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2014

The "wrench" light and "engine" light illuminated on the dash. The information system flashed "service now" and "service emission system. " the car suddenly seemed to bog down and slowed to around 15 mph. From there it would not accelerate beyond 30 mph. The accelerator was unresponsive and seemed mushy. Once at 30 mph the car would hesitate and jerk. It also stalled when slowing. These are the same exact symptoms that other Escape owners have experienced and which Ford has recognized as a manufacturing defect under customer satisfaction # 13n03 for Escape models 2009-2012. The Ford dealer says the electronic throttle body needs to be replaced. However, as of this writing Ford is not covering the repair for earlier models even though they have the same engine, same symptoms, same repair necessary. Come on Ford, do the right thing!.

23 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2013

Within 1/4 mile of starting and driving from home, the engine began to run very rough, misfiring, idling rough, etc. Pulled over, opened hood, engine was idling very rough. No check engine light. Brought it back home. Total trip was less than 1 mile. Next day, started it up again, ran smoother, but had no power; very difficult to get above 20-30mph. Brought it to repair shop. They determined that all three catalytic converters were clogged up from broken/melted catalytic converter internal parts. Replaced all three catalytic converters, but repair shop could not determine the cause of the initial misfiring and catalytic converter damage. Check engine light never came on at any time. Total repair cost $2350. 00. Car had been in the same shop earlier that week for state inspection and lube-oil-filter. No issues found at that time. Battery had failed two days before the problem, and was replaced the morning of the problem. The issue appeared upon first driving the car after the battery was changed.

24 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2013

Getting code p0191 and p0193 all refer to fuel rail pressure sensor, making the car cut on fuel and lose speed and make you stop no mater if you are running in the freeway or high way, it's creating a hazard to other drivers to crash on you when this happen. Replace the fuel rail pressure sensor twice this month and problem stop for a while and then is back again some refer a bad gas pump system but that is not problem also it happen when car accelerate gas cut off and stop. I ask other Ford Escape and f150 truck owners and they have the same sensor replace even mechanics and local car sale part, told me they been selling the same sensor pressure. I run a circuit test to my old sensor and my new one and I come up with bad results test with power across the sensors connectors. One of the thing I don't like about Ford repairs is ,they are trying to make you paid much money for code readings, parts and labor. This is a priority case that need to be addressee until some one get hurt on road for a simple defecting part.

25 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2012

Several times, the accelerator pedal would stick to the point that I could stand on it and it would not budge. It happens most frequently in colder weather but the temperature of the car has no effect. There is no real pattern to when it won't work. Ford recommended replacing the throttle body, however after researching, the throttle body is not something that is normally replaced at this mileage.

26 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2012

After totaling a 2004 Escape, I purchased another 2005 Escaped because I loved it. Well not so much anymore. I bought the vehicle from a dealership in September 2012. Only three short months later I started having the exact same problem I am reading in all complaints. I tried to push on the gas and nothing. It was misfiring bad. I then took it too a shop and they told me coils 1, 3, and 5 were out and needed to be replaced. The dealership wanted close too $2,000 to repair it. I was furious because I had bought my 2004 from the same dealership and my family alone had purchased a total of 6 vehicles from the dealership. I was a loyal customer and was not going to pay to have it fixed. So they split the cost of $1000 with me. Now it is acting up again and I've replaced the fuel filter and the thermostat bc thats what the computer said only for it to still not be running. I am a single mother, college student, and server and it's 2 days before christmas so I am very disappointed! fix the problem Ford!!.

27 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2012

Son was driving vehicle when gas pedal stuck and would not go down--he pushed pedal down with all his strength but it would not move.

28 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2012

The accelerator pedal is very difficult to press and sometimes cannot be pressed down at all.

29 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2012

We were accelerating to get on the interstate when the vehicle suddenly died without warning. No telling what would have happened if we were driving at freeway speeds. We coasted to the breakdown lane and had the vehicle towed to the Ford dealer who stated the computer (pcm), all the coil over plugs (cop) and spark plugs were damaged and needed replacement. This is a known issue as it is described exactly in Ford service bulletin TSB 09-2-6. The spark plugs in the 2005 and 2006 cause radio frequency interference with the pcm which damages the pcm and the other components. The least Ford could have done was notify us that replacing the spark plugs could have prevented this very expensive repair. The problems don't end there. A few days after the repair we were again accelerating to get on the interstate when the vehicle lost power and would not go over 50mph. We brought the vehicle back to the Ford dealer who stated the catalytic converters (there are 3 of them) were clogged due to raw fuel coming in contact with the converters probably due to the previous engine problems. The cost to fix the converters is even more than the cost of the initial repair. We've decided to not have the dealer repair the vehicle as the total cost of all the repairs would exceed the value of the vehicle. We called Ford customer service and they were of no help in this situation. I think Ford should cover the costs of these repairs for an issue knew existed. I don't understand why there hasn't been a recall for this problem as I see that it has happened to a lot of other 2005 Escapes listed in your database. I imagine we will more of these failures as these vehicles age.

30 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2012

First occurrence of problem: 48800 miles, 5/2012. Engine light on and engine misfiring. Ford dealership determined faulty ignition coil in # 6 cylinder. Replaced ignition coil and spark plug. $295 second occurrence of problem: 74,400 miles, 11/2013. Engine light on and engine misfiring. Mechanic replaced sparkplugs in cylinders # 1-3 all at once since it is difficult to access those. $276 additional occurrences of same problem: upon misfiring in 2014 I bought a code reader which indicated cylinder #5 misfire - replaced ignition coil and spark plug. More misfiring indicated cylinder #4 misfire - replaced ignition foil and spark plug. Major problem update. 2/2/2015 - travelling 55 mph car shuts off, all warning lights come on, coast to shoulder. Restart car, seems fine, no warning lights. Again cylinder # 4 misfiring - replaced spark plug. My research indicates the ecm/pcm may be damaged and that this is a very frequent problem with this car, often manifesting after the warranty expires/recall mileage, and costs $2000-$3000 or more. I don't wan't to pay to have it fixed because many people have had the pcm fried multiple times but I'm scared it will shut down while driving again and think this should be covered by a recall. Many people are having this problem and it appears to be caused by Ford engineering. Please help force a recall or provide me with information for a class action lawsuit.

31 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2010

When the weather is cold, the gas pedal sticks when you try to accelerate from standing still. When it does kick in the car jumps and could cause an accident. I have looked this up and it seems to be a recurring problem, however, Ford has stated that it is based on VIN and March - April of 2004 was a problem but June 04 (my man date?) was not. This has happened repeatedly since about a year or two after I got the car. It appears to be a carbon build up problem, however, it is ridiculous to have to go in once a month to have it cleaned.

32 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2010

The gas pedal of my 2005 Ford Escape some times gets stack to the point where I can't accelerate no matter how much weight I put on it. It normally happens after it has been idle for many hours and goes away after driving for about 30 minutes. It was like that since I bought it two years ago and has been getting worst lately. I took it to local Ford dealer and they test drove and said there is nothing wrong with it. On 6/2/2010, I got stack in the middle of a busy intersection and nearly got hit from the rear and from both sides. It took me more than two minutes before I could accelerate again.

33 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2010

The accelerator keeps getting stuck on my 2005 Ford Escape. I start it off, back up, put it in drive, press on the accelerator, and the accelerator won't move. I have to press on the accelerator really hard and then the truck takes off really fast and I have to fight with the wheel to gain control. My sister was also driving it on a cold day and all of a sudden the accelerator got stuck, the truck would no longer move, it finally started rolling down a hill and she almost crashed into a tree. She too had to fight the wheel to gain control of the car.

34 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2008

We first experienced the sticking gas pedal in maybe 2008. We brought it to hawk Ford in oak lawn, ill and they said there was nothing wrong with our truck. . This problem continued on and off for years. The last straw was when my husband had to drive approximately 50 miles with his foot on the brake and the gas pedal to get to our house. I had previously reported this life-threatening situation to your database a few years ago. I followed up with several letters/e-mails to Ford, all of which were unsympathetic and met with veiled sarcasm and lack of interest. I still wonder how they sleep at night knowing this terrible and dangerous defect is real.
