The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. Upon starting of the vehicle, the contact placed the vehicle into drive(d); however, the vehicle failed to accelerate upon depression of the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that prior to the failure, the check engine warning light illuminated and remained illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact stated while driving at highway speeds, the vehicle independently downshifted and the vehicle failed to accelerate above 30 mph. The vehicle was shaking, and the vehicle failed to accelerate upon depression of the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where and the contact was informed that the transmission torque converter was defective and needed to be replaced. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
Stalled out while driving down hwy. At 70 mph. Cars swirved and I almost got hit from behind due to my vehicle just cutting out. No warning lights came on it just shut off battery light n engine light then came on after vehicle lost power and I had to get off road without causing an accident which almost occurred due to the speed and area I was driving at time vehicle cut out I still have not figured out why it just cut out. Very dangerous all around.
Drove vehicle to drop off dog at sitters, started vehicle began to make u-turn and vehicle stalled. Attempted to restart, cranks but won't run. Recently purchased from used car dealer, new battery was installed, no trouble up to this point. Began checking usual problems, fuel delivery, crank pos. Sensor, cam pos sensor, have no spark. Upon further research this appears to be faulty coils, spark plugs and pcm from factory but no recall has been employed. Possibility of collision during u-turn very likely. Loss of power to all systems could cause extreme risk to life at higher speeds. Ford motor company is aware of this problem, with the high number of similar problems in the NHTSA data base it is impossible for them not to know. The NHTSA should force Ford to fix this. If you make a product that can be dangerous if faulty, you are responsible to the public to do the right thing. I think that if the governmental agency responsible for traffic safety won't do their job then a class action lawsuit should be started. I bet I could find a good lawyer in the sf bay area.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 55 mph, the overdrive warning light was illuminated. The contact parked on the side of the road. The contact stated she depressed the overdrive button. The vehicle was towed to independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be repaired. The vehicle was towed to her son's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 15v606000 (power train) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 198,684. The VIN was not available.
The power steering will repeatedly and unexpectedly go out when driving often when hitting a slight bump or making a turn. This never leads to a code triggered but absolutely could lead to injury or death and has been reported in so many hybrid Ford Escapes.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at 30 mph while he accelerated the vehicle he heard a roaring sound. The vehicle started accelerated at incontrollable speed. The contact was able to pull over to the side and had to shut the vehicle down. The vehicle was not diagnosed because the dealer stated the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was contacted and they also stated the vehicle was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.
The electric power steering system failed in the middle of an intersection and almost caused an accident involving other vehicles.
When slowing down vehicle to stop for a car ahead of you, stopping at stop sign, or slowing down to make a turn, vehicle engine will stop leaving driver in a serious and compromising position, vehicle has to be placed in neutral or park to restart and occupant must shift into drive quickly and accelerate quickly so engine will not kill, once the vehicle warms up it will kill right away, I'm afraid this is going to happen and be in an intersection and hit or hit from behind, vehicle has been well maintained and transmission fluids are exactly the level they should be at.
Driving 65 mph on the interstate my 05 Escape began to skip, stall & died, anti theft light came on. I drive for 20 miles slow with it skipping and stalling. When I left off on gas it would continue to run until I made it to safe place. Attempted to drive for repair on state hwy it stalled and went dead. Ford dealership reprog keys- repaired drive off, barely off the lot and it quit again. Now I see this is a manufactures issue with 05 Escapes after an online search. New Ford diagnosis- new plugs & coil pack, intake gasket. 170,000 miles. My alarm randomly goes off too which could be related to electrical issues. Ford motor is liable if someone's vehicle stalls and is killed due to this problem they know about but have not corrected or recalled.
See report.
Engine oil leak can not be traced. Serviced by Ford since 2004 when I bought the vehicle brand new. Only serviced by a Ford dealer service department. I was told because of the mileage, 130,047, and age the engine needs replaced. Dye test conducted by Ford service and no leaks were found after driving 500 miles and returning to the Ford service department to check for leaks as advised by Ford service department. Leaving the vehicle overnight, Ford service mechanic indicates after sitting overnight it smokes excessively on cold startup. I have replicated the cold startup procedure everyday in cold weather observing the tail pipe exhaust as my wife starts the engine since January 2018. There has never been a sign of smoke or excessive smoke from the engine tail pipe exhaust.
While looking at your web site, I notice that there was a recall on my 2005 Escape 3. 0l, I didn't get a recall notice from the dealer and its 2017 and I'm the second owner, and now I find out that my passager side rear wheel well is rusted out by looking at all the wheel wells, cause I heard a hard bump sound coming from the back of the car while driving it on the streets. Now I notice that there is a shift level recall on the same Escape!!. What is going on with the recall notices!!!. This is the only car that I have to drive to get around in- great car other then that.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the rear passenger side wheel was rusted and the four wheel drive warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the failure was unusual, but declined to diagnose or repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 206,194.
Vehicle jerking 4wd light keeps blinking, power lock light pops on car act like it wants to shut off.
When driving car shuts off. Car starts in park when put in gear shuts off. Driving on highway when slowed down in traffic car shut off, and would would start in park but shut off when put in gear.
The gas pedal was stuck after mashing on it hard it broke loose when approching a stop sign I stopped and try to go again but gas pedal was stuck why is there not a recall. I also have transmission and rearend problems but they both are costly repairs I am concerned about the gas pedal please fix it before someone gets hurt there really should be a recall on it.
I purchased the vehicle knowing the ecm had been replaced recently. . . About 3 months of purchasing the vehicle my check emissions light came on. . . Losing gas mileage, car stalled out a few times, and delearship said it was the ecm again. . . Approximately August 2013. One year later August 2014 same issue again. . . Ecm replaced again. . When I turn the key on, not starting it the check emission comes on and the dealership tells me this is normal. . My gas mileage is 12 mpg and im afraid it is happening again soon. . I dont know what to do and I was told it may be the wiring harness causing this issue. . I dont know why no one will get to the route of the problem why the computer in my Escape keeps failing. They wont let me trade it in since it is not any value to them anymore. .
Vehicle was shipped to germany due to military duty. A week later after delivered, my wife was driving it going down a short hill when the vehicle turned off completely and brakes were not functioning. My wife had to stop the vehicle with parking break. After that the engine was losing power and the alarm was going off very often. We drove the vehicle few occasions and it turned off couple of times again. I ordered the part and replaced it in 2014. The vehicle is running fine, however the alarm still going off and engine light is on again on dashboard. At this point I do not know if the vehicle is indicating the same problem or something new.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph the vehicle began to decelerate and eventually stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where they advised her that the transmission would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000.
I was driving to work on us 41 south when my 2005 Ford Escape just started to buck and would not accelerate, I was going approximately 45 mph and the car just shut off. I could not steer or start it again and was almost hit by an 18 wheel vehicle and killed. I immediately put my flashers on and kept retrying to start the car to get it off the road. This could have killed me and others this morning! this is a Ford motor company mechanical issue and they knew about this problem with this model vehicle and choose to not recall it!! how many people have died from this problem that we are not aware of??? I took the car and had it checked out and they said that Ford issued a bulletin on this exact issue and how to fix it! only now, its going to cost me, the consumer $2000 or more to fix!! I am so upset from it, I am almost paid off on this vehicle and I feel that this issue should be looked into by the attorney general and by the transportation department of safety!.
While driving 45mph the car just cut off is a high traffic area. The car behind me had to swerve to miss rear-ending me! I had my 3 year old daughter w/ me at the time! our mechanic has informed us that apparently Ford motor company is aware that bad plugs were installed in these cars and would cause computer failure! nothing was told to us regarding this issue when we purchased the car! when emailed fmc they informed me that this is not a safety issue & a recall is not required. How can this not be a safety issue when the car completely dies w/out warning???.
On way home, car shut off while going 35 mph. Coils started to smoke. Towed to nearest dealer and was told all coils, plugs and powertrain module needs to be replaced at $2500. Researched legitimate websites and found many owners with same problem that had fixed more than once at $2500. Was told by dealer that NHTSA only recalls for safety & emissions. This is clearly a safety issue, especially if going a high speed on interstate and car shuts off without warning. Thankfully my kids were not in car.
The car stopped moving at the posted speed. The catalytic converter disintegrated, and blocked the airflow. The warranty expired 4 months earlier. Ford did not seem interested in either the issue or/ helping resolve it. Should there be a recall?.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving 10 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was restarted and it resumed normal function. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the power train control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and they stated that the vehicle was not under warranty. The failure mileage was 100,000. Pmb.
9/10/12, while driving on the freeway my check engine light came on and my car started running very hard and started shaking and I could feel the car loosing power. I turned the steering wheel towards the right to pull over and as I pressed the gas pedal I could feel the car had shut off. I was able to pull off to the side of the highway and my car smell like something was burning. After sitting for about 15mins the car started and I was able to start the car and drove it at about 40 mph until getting off the exit to go home which was about 10 more miles. I had to continiously press the gas making the car excelerate between 30 to 40mph because the car started to repeat the same thing as I stated earlier. I took the car to the shop 9/13/12 (my car had 153224 miles) and was told there was misfire on #2 coil, so I paid to have the coil changed. 2/15/13 my check engine light came back on and the car was repeatly hesitating, I took it the shop 2/19/13 (my car had 163071 miles) and had the same misfire code, so I paid to hve all three rear coils changed, the owner showed me the old coils & the #2 coil look burned and burst open from the top. After changing the coils the check engine light came back on with the same misfire code for #2 coil and I paid to have it changed again 6/18/13 (my car had 171459 miles). The engine light came back on with the same code and I paid to changed it again 7/12/13 (my car had 173095 miles) after I drove the car about 50 miles the light came back on. I had the code read again on 7/30/13 (my car had 173920 miles) and it gave the same code for a misfire on coil #2. The owner of the shop advised me to take the car to the dealer and explain the problem and check if there has been a recall on the 2005 model. I called the Ford dealership and was told I would have to pay for them to do another diagnostic quoted at $140.
Was driving down the highway, and the vehicle just shut off. Was able to start it, but it would not run right for the first 5 minutes. After leaving it off for a half hour, worked fine. Also happened on 9/6/2012 and 9/23/2012. Loss of all power steering, power brakes, and vehicle hard to control when it is shut off. Asked Ford dealership about what could be done, and they just want me to bring it in. Now impossible to take any where because it wont even start back up. Read online how this has happened to many people, and all the dealership does is take them for 6000 dollars and the problem does not get resolved.
My wife went to on a trip and the vehicle started to misfire, went to a Ford dealer, mechanic identified the problem; ignition coil #4 failed. She asked what needed done to fix properly so she would be safe and have no more trouble. He said to replace coil, plugs, and wires. That was done. On the way home it happened again, car shut off w/o warning on i95 @65 mph. Problem persisted and finally would not start and had to be towed. My mechanic discovered Ford srb 09-2-6. A problem identified by Ford but not made public. I contacted dealer; he was aware of srb but did not act on it or inform us about it. We are now faced with a bill 2x larger than it would have been if dealer would have followed srb. He put my wife at risk (nearly had a few accidents) and Ford and the NHTSA are putting people at undue risk by not making this info. Public and specific to owners of these vehicles. A failure of this magnitude, identified as a problem from the factory should be recalled and Ford should complete repairs at no cost to the owner.
Rubbing sound coming from left front (driver's side) wheel well. Diagnosed by Ford as a "loose" wheel bearing. Sounds more like a failure. Ford charged $47 to "diagnose" the problem. Seems like maybe they already knew what it might be and let 3 techs soak up some clock time on this one. The original charge was quoted at $95 so I guess we got off better than some.
Driving along interstate engine suddenly lost power, would not go above 20mph, no check engine light. Took to repair shop and first catalytic converter completely clogged, number 2 converter partially clogged. Vehicle only has 84,000 miles. Warranty expired at 80,000 miles for exhaust. Repair shop this happens a lot for these vehicles.
2005 Ford Escape gas pedal sticks - dealer advising no issues, I have seen hundreds of complaints about this. What is going to be done as this could cause a safety issues.
From a stop this vehicle has a problem with the throttle. It is intermittent, but when it occurs you unable to press the throttle. It is jammed. It seems if I place the gear shift back into park then to drive it will be free again and drive normally. This started happening once in a while years ago, but seems to be occurring a lot more frequently now.
Tranmission will not pull the over drive flashes off\on.
Letter on behalf of constituent re his 2005 Ford Escape which has 45,200 miles and in need of a transmission replacement.
