I was driving my 2008 Ford Escape in a mall parking lot, and when I approach a stop sign the vehicle was extremely hard to stop. I had to use the full force of the break all the way down to maintain the vehicle from surging/ crashing into cars in front of me. The engine was staying accelerated and would continue to climb in rpms even thou the gas pedal was not being pressed. I pulled off to the side away from other cars and put the car into parked. At this time the vehicle accelerated on its own to about 8000 rpms. The only way to stop the engine was to completely turn the car off with the key. Upon turning on the vehicle again the problem did not continue.
I was in my car and when I stepped on the gas to accelerate and pull out on to the road, my engine raced and I only rolled forward, down the small slope, into traffic. After about 3 seconds my transmission caught and the car jumped forward and I momentarily lost control, barely missing another car in the other lane. Turns out almost all of the transmission fluid had leaked out from the transmission cooler, causing a malfunctioning transmission. After bringing the vehichle in to get inspected, and talking to multiple dealers, they all say that they consistently fix this issue on the 2008 Ford Escape. Some even say they have trouble stocking the part because they do so many. The vehichle has a faulty transmission cooler/ac condensor that consistently breaks and causes the vehichle to lose transmission fluid, resulting in unsafe vehichles.
Purchased 2008 Ford Escape in June 2007. After around 25k miles the transmission was leaking fluid according to the Ford service center we took it to. They repaired this at no cost since this was under the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. Had a minor issue back in August with the air fan not blowing air properly. The fan had to be placed on high before it would blow out any air. This was fixed and cost approx. 200 dollars since the warranty was out in June 2007. No big deal. Then on October 30, around 73k miles on the car, it started stalling while driving and shaking violently. Put on brakes it would start to stall and when giving gas it would shake and then stall. Took it to the Ford service shop which is also the dealer where we have purchased around 5 or 6 vehicles and who has always serviced our Ford vehicles and were told that it needed a brand new transmission and since it is out of warranty this will cost $4,900. 00. Have checked on numerous websites and this is a common issue with Ford Escapes. I actually know someone who bought her vehicle at the same dealer, the same year vehicle and had the same exact problem with around the same mileage when her transmission went out as well as the fan problem. I do not feel that I should have to pay for this since we had the same issue back when the car only had 25k miles on it. This car is only 3 1/2 years old and we should not have these many issues with this car. I cannot afford to have it fixed so it will sit in my driveway.
Out of nowhere in sept and oct of 2011 my sun roof, right passenger and right back passenger windows stopped working. They fell straight down. . The motor and the band quit and now come August and October of . 2012 the same thing on the left. I bpight this brand new on 2008 out of the dealership and now I have to spend my time and money for a defective auto.
2008 Ford Escape has 68,000 miles on it, the transmission is jerking when shifting into first and second gear. It is really bad shifting to second, it's almost like the motor is dropping. My a/c also just started having issues, the fan only works on high.
My Ford Escape just started leaking fluid one day. Even thought Ford admites its a huge huge problem that will effect my transmission its not recalled or covered by the warranty. The tranny cooler/ac condenser is leaking.
While trying to leave a fast food drive up my power steering froze up. I had to manually ream on the steering wheel to make all corners from the restaurant to my condo - approximately 4 miles. I did not have any component messages on the read out. When the tow truck driver arrived an hour later he was able to move the SUV from the garage to his flatbed tow truck - no problem. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where it was "checked out" for two days. Nothing was found.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. While the vehicle was parked in the garage, the contact noticed smoke coming from the garage door. Upon further inspection, she noticed huge flames underneath the vehicle. The vehicle exploded and the back of the house and the garage door were blown away as a result. Prior to the failure, the vehicle had not been driven for two days and displayed no signs of failure. The fire department was called and extinguished the flames. The home and the vehicle were destroyed. There were no injuries. The insurance company inspected the vehicle and stated that the cause of the failure was unknown. The manufacturer stated that they would forward the complaint to their attorney and call the contact back with an update. The failure mileage was 12,000.
Consumer states that his 2008 Ford Escape has several problems. Efforts has been made to fix the vehicle, but new problems develop and ongoing problems has not been resolved.
The newly redesigned instrument cluster "area" for the newly arriving 2008 Mazda tribute is a safety and traffic hazard in the following way: because of new shape for the plexiglass front and the location of the hood and the materials used, it allows the sun's rays to spotlight on the speedometer and tachometer "area" , causing the worst "glare" that I have ever come accross in all my years of buying and driving new cars. This causes blindess (even with a good pair of polarized sunglasses on) during sunny days, when the vehicle is traveling in the right angle to the sun. On a recent trip out of town, I had to actually hold up one of my hand's close to the instrument cluster, to block the sun's reflection. That meant driving with only one arm. The only safe time to drive this vehicle is during cloudy days. Unfrotunately that was the type of day it was when I test drove, before signing 3 year lease. This is the sister vehicle to the Ford Escape and Mercury mariner. All 3 are built in the same Ford plant in kansas city, missouri. They must all have the same design flaw. The same vehicles dash was just fine from 2001-2007. I know, because I owned several of them. Only the new dash on the new 2008 models have this problem.
