Failure Date: 07/30/2020

"stop safely now". It did a couple times while driving and now it won't turn on at all.

2 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2020

There have been numerous times where my car would suddenly stall or freeze up when making turns or pressing the gas after coming to a complete stop. By stalling I mean taking a second or two to accelerate then jerking kinda hard once I hit the gas pedal. When the car would freeze up, the traction and check engine indicator flashes and the steering wheel is completely stuck in place and I'd have to restart the car to get it going again. It doesnt freeze or stall on the highway but it always happens on city streets.

3 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2020

I'm scared to drive my car. Sometimes the wheel locks when I'm driving , also the wheel shakes like I'm on a rollercoaster . I can't drive over 20 mph because the wheel starts to shake even more.

4 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2020

I own a 2008 Ford Escape that has recently been diagnosed with a known recalled issue with the torque sensor. Error code b2278. It has caused the electric power steering assist to turn off. My vehicle currently has no power steering due to this issue that has already been recalled. My vehicle falls under the model and year that Ford recalled the part on, however the Ford motor company is claiming they have no responsibility in the repair or replacement of the part. Luckily I was at a slow speed when the power steering went out and did not cause an accident.

5 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2020

Recalled other models identical to mine for the exact issue I am having with the airbag clock spring; however, did not recall mine for some reason. Car has 99. 7k miles I am absolutely furious nothing has been done about this issue for select cars while others have been corrected. The dealership my car was taken to was too incompetent to repair the issue. (cactus jacks).

6 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2019

Today is 10/1/2019. I dropped my kids off at school came home and my neighbor son had missed the bus. I was on my way to take him to school when after I started my car my steering wheel wouldn't turn. First I thought I had done something wrong so I parked it and tried to reverse and turn the wheel again same thing happened. My electric steering wheel has gone out or is no longer working there was a recall before I got the vehicle 14s05 but with previous owner. I went to 3 different places saying the same thing how can a recall that claims to be fixed not be fixed thank god my truck was parked already so now they are saying it could cost 800-1800 and I have to take it to a Ford place so disappointed. I purchase the truck in 2017 so approximately 2 years later and this happens.

Supervisior name maria (888)457-8442 service dept claim to havent heard of the problem. Ford motor company please do the right thing and fix recall anti lock brakes for 2008 Ford Escape hybrid. 9 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2018

Car lost power steering while driving.

10 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2018

Electric steering assist failure -- sudden and complete failure. On highway. . . Outside temp was 5 f above zero. Two children in car (one year old and 3 year old). Without warning (and during a 45 degree curve) the steering assist went out and at first the steering assist attempted to correct the steering and that made matters worse -- holding the wheel steady and continuing thru the turn was a challenge (and, I am 'stout' guy!). Got off the highway ASAP. Then an electric burn smell started. . Steering column (?). Got the grand kids out of the car (into the 5 degree temp) in a hurry! car now in the shop . $2,000 repair and may not be complete. Will find out final number today.

11 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2017

I took my car in for a recall on the power steering. Afterwards when I would idle, the steering wheel became shaky making a loud noise. Now it shakes even when I'm driving and will get jerky or stop working completely. This happens on the highway, when I'm stopped at a stop light or when I'm pulling out of a driveway! from what I have researched this happens to thousands of other Ford owners. The power steering simply gives out and they want you to pay $1,500 to have the whole column replaced!.

12 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2017

I was dropping my child off at school. I put my vehicle in park and when I pulled out and went to use my brake the pedal went to the floor and the pedal vibrated like abs was engaged. I was able to stop but it was very slowly. I was going under 10 mph. When I started to drive again my abs and traction control lights came on and you could hear the sound of the traction control being engaged. I had to stop two more times on my way home and was able to do so by driving only 5 mph with my four ways on. The traction control sound was intermittent and the vehicle would not accelerate properly. The brake pedal continued to go to the floor and vibrate. The brakes continued to not work properly and make sounds. I was only 1 mile from home and was able to get home without an accident. This happened in a residential area while I was making a short trip under 3 miles both ways. It happened right after I put the vehicle in drive and pulled out. After doing some reasearch this appears to be a common problem with the hydraulic braking system. I was very lucky that I was not involved in accident and that I was driving slow at the time. I just dropped my child off at school. Had this occurred at another time we could have been seriously injured or killed as well as anyone else that may have been involved. I have called the Ford dealership today to have my vehicle looked at and am waiting to hear back from them. Since this is a common and serious problem I feel that Ford should take responsibility and issue a recall on this before someone is killed.

13 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2017

My complaint is regarding Ford safety recall # 14s05. Loss of power steering due to torque sensor failure. Ford issued recall in July 2014. My vehicle was inspected in August 2014. Software was updated and torque sensor was found to be functioning and was not replaced. The recall pertained to loss of power. The vehicle would default to manual steering. I purchased my 2008 Ford Escape in oct 2014 and was not aware of the recall. Ford says the recall was complete. I disagree and am filing this complaint.

17 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2016

As I was driving home from work and turning a corner, my power steering just stopped working and I almost drove into another car, so to avoid colliding into on coming traffic I went onto the shoulder. I contacted the dealer and they said that my car was not included in the recall, but according to this web site it is. What do I need to do, crash?.

18 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2016

While driving my car it lunge forward, which it have never done before. After coming to a complete stop at a red light, when I push on the gas peddle to continue on my way the car stalled, then lunge forward again. I was scared that the car behind me was going to hit me. 19 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2014

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). After the vehicle was repaired under the recall, the vehicle experienced several failures. The failures included the loss of anti-lock braking system, stability control, and the brake warning light was constantly illuminated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 115,412.

20 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2014

I was turning right on a stop light and front left abs tone ring broke. Car slipped gears and would not accelerate for 5-10 seconds. Rsc light and abs light came on briefly. Car continued to do this randomly and abs brakes were activated when braking at low speeds. Issue is with tone ring on many Ford Escapes from 2000-2008. Rings often break because of excessive rust build up on Ford components causing expansion. Part is constructed very poorly and as a result safety is compromised and service repairs profit goes up!.

21 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

Tl-the contact owns 2008 Ford Escape. The contact stated the abs and traction control warning indicators were illuminated intermently. The steering wheel became difficult to turn and the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond intermently. The vehicle was taken to independent mechanic and advised the right and left drive axle and axle assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage 91,259. Lb.

22 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2014

I was driving through a crowded neighborhood with many people crossing the roads with the weather being warm. All of a sudden, the engine light and other dashboard lights came on, and the car stalled. The brakes would not work, so I turned on my hazard lights, held the horn down and waved frantically through my open window. Luckily I had enough space in front of me so I could allow the car to cruise to a halt. I unfortunately had to roll through a stop sign where the people were aware that I was having an issue with the car. Upon stopping the car and turning it off, I got out and looked under the hood for any smoke or other issues. I let the car sit on the side of the road for about 5-10 minutes, and then started it up again. I was within 2 minutes of my residence so I rolled the car all the way home with my hazards on. This could have been a serious situation with multiple injuries and/or fatalities (small children in area). Ford needs to fix this issue as soon as possible.

23 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2014

Experienced frequent loss of power steering at speed and at stop a few months ago. Replacing the battery resolved it for 2 months. Then it started again when in tucson. Extreme wobble in the steering column at all times. Restarting the car helped reset power steering for the first 2 days if the car lost power steering while at rest. Restarting the car at speed is not possible and losing power steering is pretty sudden and scary. Was driving at 70mph on interstate 10 and lost power steering several times. Had to pull over with available manual steering, which was hard. Researched online and found similar issues with the 2008 Ford Escape--loss of power steering both at rest and at speed. Filing complaint.

24 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2014

I am having trouble with my 2008 Ford Escape the ignition switch won't start my car. Since about 6 months ago I have to keep pushing my key in further and further to try to get my car to start. Sometimes it take 10-15 min before I can actually get it started. Reading comments about the car this is a major issue and there should be a recall done.

25 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2014

When I was driving and then going to make a turn the car gas and steering shut down and the car would not move any longer. The steering wheel also got stuck in the process of turning and. The gas peddle also have been getting stuck before this incident it has been going on for at least 3yrs 2011 until 2014 the present we have gone to check it put no diagnosis was done to let us know the steering column system was out until this year when the car went out completely. This is not an acceptable problem and I should not have to pay to get it repaired.

26 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2014

Power steering all of sudden went out while I was driving.

27 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2014

I was at a stop sign, at a complete stop. When I accelerated, the car felt and sounded like it was going to stall and the gas pedal did not work--then the car surged forward. The abs light and traction control lights then came on and would not go off. This is the 2nd time I have had an issue with the throttle body--I had it replaced at a Ford dealer 3 years ago, and now it is being replaced again. I have had the car since 2008, and I'm on my 3rd throttle body--the original one, the one replaced at the Ford dealer, and now this one. The financial burden is stressful enough, but then add on the fact that, at any time, the throttle can freeze up and stop working which can cause a serious accident.

28 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2013

I was driving and the power steering went out! I struggled to maintain the Escape on the curve. I pulled off the road and shut off the car, when I turned it back on I was able to turn the wheel but that didn't last very long. I parked it for awhile and borrowed a car but I had to return it so now I'm driving and just praying I don't loose all control. Today it was diagnosed, need a new power steering electric motor, cost between 1300-1500 dollars! that is something that shouldn't be happening, Ford needs to fix this problem. I see how many complaints there are when I checked it out at all locations online.

29 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2012

While attempting to back out of my driveway, the steering wheel locked and the car wouldn't move. I registered the complaint with aboutautombile,. Com on that very same day. The # is 10489579. The car was taken in last year and no one could find a problem as it is intermittent. 3 days ago, my 16 year old son was driving to school and as he was turning right at a corner (20mpg), the wheel locked. Since I was not with him, we said we would keep an eye on it. Today, again he was turning (this time left at 20 mpg) the wheel locked again. He was able to get it across the road and park it in a plaza. I picked him up and drove him to school. I have been waiting on service to call me to get the vehicle looked at. At this point, even though his school is lose to home there is no was I want my son to drive this Ford product. I work at henry Ford hospital and I am bewildered as to why this has not been recalled as it is an obvious safety issue. Looking on-line, there have been a large number of customers with the same complaint.

32 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2012

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. The contact was driving approximately 10 mph and approached a stop sign. The failure recurred five times. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000. The VIN was not available. Kmj.

33 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2011

Abs tone ring cracks because of rust on the axle and then it spins on the axle and causes the abs to activate and the traction control to activate because it believes you are skidding. Then the abs and traction control warning light activate to say there is something wrong with the system. After much research, this is a very common problem, is a design flaw, and is a safety feature for the vehicle.

34 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2010

Just lucky we pulled over for gas. Our vehicle keep running even when it was turned off. 2008 Ford Escape 4dr 2wd xls with 48,0087 miles would not turn off. We stopped, purchased new battery $90 and continued 15 miles to charlotte parking lot. We were advise to pull out gas module, disconnect the cable to battery and we would get home. Wrong, after aaa tow 109 miles back to SC budd's delivered it to benson's Ford for review. After 5 hours no clue by CO. Next day after 12 pm. Co said Ford engineering told them how to fix my anti-lock brake system with $589 module, f80 fuse and $39 rubber hose leaking. Hose had hole in it. This car never in collision yet. We were saved by tow from aaa in charlotte nc to easley area. They say charges $1300 for sure. I know this must be the first report. But I wanted to let our national agency know about the defect. Please call if needed. Email is [xxx]. We got lucky, we stopped before we lost brakes. There was however reported leaking rubber hose to replace. We were lucky, other may not be. I have always been cautious with cars. . Also reported 091b10 recall not advertised by Ford. That's leaky coolant. Not fixed yet. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

35 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2008

All these items have been fixed by capitol city Ford indianapolis and mace Ford terre haute, in. I am still having problems with the throttle thrust and electrical problems. Currently my car will not start. Other mechanics said it was the starter, its not the starter its electrical sensors. The vehicle speeds up sometimes when the car is not being excelerated. Suspension, heater speed control stop working when they worked on the electrical and they refuse to fix it. There is more. I don't have my documentation, but I will submit it later. The car is at the shop - being looked and worked on - its still not starting - so we don't have transportation!! I cant afford another hit from Ford when they are not even fixing the problem.
