36 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2012

For a few months now, the gas pedal has been intermittently sticking in either the fully depressed or non-depressed position. The first few times this has happened, I was on the expressway and traveling approx 70 mph. Once the gas pedal was released, I realized that the vehicle continued to accelerate on its own. The gas pedal was lying completely in the depressed position. I could lift the gas pedal with my foot but it would limply fall back to the floor. I was able to slow the vehicle with the brake pedal, but the acceleration continued when I went off the brake. I exited the highway and turned the vehicle off. I continued to lift the gas pedal and wiggle it and it seemed to go back into place. I noticed over time, that this seemed to happen more when the gas pedal was more fully depressed, like when on the highway. At other times, the gas pedal is sticking in the relaxed (un-depressed) position. This seems to be happening during very cold temperatures but continues while driving and when pressing the gas pedal. The vehicle will "jump" forward with the sudden release of the gas pedal after pressing hard enough to make it release. Sometimes it takes quite a bit of pressure to make it release. I have read about a recall for these complaints in older vehicles and there are multiple complaints online in the 2008 model. This is a hazard for people, as it happens suddenly and without warning. I don't feel safe having my children in the car.

37 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2012

While trying to accelerate onto the highway the vehicles gas pedal freezes. I was unable to get the vehicle to accelerate. I continually tapped on the pedal and eventually had to go under the vehicle hood to tug on throttle cable. This freed the stuck pedal. I called the Ford motor CO. And reported this incident in 2012. They said that it was not an issue and to continue driving the vehicle. Over the past year or so I have had intermittent issues only when the vehicle is first started. It has recently become a bigger issue as of 12/8/14 as my wife was driving the vehicle while merging into highway traffic and the vehicle again would not accelerate. I met her tugged on the throttle cable and the pedal became free again. I drove to the nearest gas station to check again under the hood and as I left the same issue occurred, a stuck pedal. While driving I had to hold one foot on the brake and one on the gas to keep the pedal from locking in the closed position. This is not a safe form of driving and believe there in a design issue with Ford motor CO. Throttle. The Ford company again said their engineers says this is not an issue and to take the vehicle to the dealer at my expense. This is a safety issue as the vehicle is unable to accelerate in traffic. Does someone have to die before this gets fixed. I do not want it to be me! thank you.

38 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

May 30th, 2012 2008 Ford Escape stopped at a stop light, gas pedal was stuck rendering vehicle unable to move. Mileage was approximately 70,000 miles. Had vehicle towed to local Ford dealership. They replaced the entire pedal assembly. Within about 3 months, the pedal seemed to start catching again. Problem is intermitted not continuous but very dangerous in heavy traffic. Owner must press firmly to get the gas pedal to work which causes the SUV to leap forward. Just over a year after the pedal assembly was replace, it is being replacing again due to the same sticking problem.

39 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2011

My throttle body is sticking every morning. I have been stuck in traffic on I-5 in tacoma and had to use all my strength to depress the throttle which lurched my daughter and I into oncoming traffic and nearly caused a fatal accident. It has caused my children to be late for school, myself late for work and alot of stress and fuel. I have to keep the throttle depressed while stopping and have to use my right foot for the break. I drive an automatic. The dealership knows that the 2008 Ford Escapes are having this problem and are doing nothing to help resolve the issues. When I call to ask about the issue I get treated very poorly. I am one of thousands of people having this problem and Ford needs to address it.

40 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2010

Gas pedal intermittently would not go down, sometimes in heavy traffic. Finally the pedal stuck so much that I took it in for repair and they replaced the throttle. This is very dangerous to not be able to accelerate when in heavy highway traffic. I noticed that other Escape owners have documented the same problem.

41 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2009

I noticed that on cold mornings the gas pedal would not depress until a certain amount of force would be exerted on the pedal. Sometimes you would have to stomp on the gas to get it free. Sometimes a quick press-release-press again would free the gas pedal. As the engined warmed the problem would decrease. On occasions I would stop at a stop sign and roll halfway through the intersection before I could get the pedal free. Dealer indicated that they couldn't find anything wrong although I am aware of 1 other Ford Escape and 2 Mazda tributes with the same problem.

42 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2008

Purchased my car in August 2008, notice in oct, 2008 gas pedal kept sticking. Little hard to accelerate, unless you press down hard. My car was still under manufacturer warranty, so I took it back to the dealership to have replaced/ fixed. Then in oct 2013 my gas pedal broke, went straight to the floor (without acceleration) took it to the dealership again. Now in Feb 2015, my gas pedal is sticking again, took it back to the dealership to have fix. They told me that my issues with the gas pedal was not related.

43 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. The contact stated that he started the vehicle and it would not accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who repaired the vehicle. Several years later the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified and acknowledged that there was a retainer clip that could remedy the defect. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 11,152 and the current mileage was 57,000. Updated 07/06/12.
