1 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2014

This was the third incident, vehicle stops running for no apparent reason, wrench light illuminates. . . Power lost in engine. After stop, engine sometimes starts, sometimes requires longer wait time to start. . . Vehicle still under 5 year 50 k warranty, taken to Ford dealership. . . . They want $ 440 to fix the problem. . . . Before someone gets killed in this vehicle.

2 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2013

My car lost acceleration in an intersection going about 15 mph. The engine was running slow and rough. The throttle had no effect on engine speed. After about 10 minutes of rough idling, the vehicle was turned off and I was then able to immediately restart the engine and it was able to drive home. This appears to be a known fault with the Ford Escape and could result in accidents. My understanding is that this is a known design problem with the throttle control system on the Escape.

3 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2013

While driving on Monday 11/18/13 my wife was stopping then went to accelerate and the vehicle stalled. Upon turning it off it restarted just fine. This happen 3 more times from then to Tuesday evening. I drove it to work Wednesday 11/20/13 and while accelerating on to hwy 94 the vehicle stalled. It did hesitate upon restarting but started and ran. Wednesday evening on our way home doing approx 30mph the vehicle stalled and again hesitated to start but did and ran ok. Thursday morning 11/21/13 while on my way to work I was at cruising speed doing approx 60mph on hwy 94 the vehicle stalled. It hesitated to restart again but started after leaving the vehicle off for a few seconds.

4 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2013

Traveling at approx 5-10 miles an hour. Pulling out of stop sign. Vehicle without warning felt like it stalled. Could not accelerate. I coasted to curb and put in park. A warning light on dashboard showed a yellow wrench. I turned car off. Waited 30 seconds. Started and light was off, car normal. Took to dealer. Diagnostic code said electronic throttle. Did not have fixed immediately. Next day did it two times in less than five miles. Now engine light on second time of occurrence. I am afraid to drive. Could be on highway. Could pull out in front of on coming cars and it stalls. Get broadsided.

5 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2013

While driving the vehicle lost power and wrench light came on. When came to a stop the vehicle ran rough at idle and surged. Car taken immediately to Ford and they misdiagnosed. After that it continued to do it multiple times on city streets and interstates. The car would have no power and the engine would not accelerate when I would step on gas. Had to shut the engine off and restart to make anything work. After that I took it to Ford again. This time they replaced throttle body-air intake and also throttle body and motor assembly.

6 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2013

Was pulling out of gas station to merge onto busy street, car began to roll forward upon acceleration then lost all response and lurched into road stopping there. Engine shut off and check engine light came on. Attempted to restart vehicle, car would rev but not respond with any acceleration. During this time incredibly loud harsh shifting occurred , sounded as though transmission fell out of car. Dealership replaced defective throttle body, currently still investigating transmission issues.

7 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2013

All the sudden the gas pedal didn't do anything when I pressed it and my vehicle slowed to a dangerous speed for the road I was on forcing vehicles to swerve around to miss hitting me. The wrench light also came on. I was able to eventually pull over and turn my vehicle off and restart it. After restarting it the gas pedal seemed to work fine. I took it into the dealership and they said it was the throttle body and it needed replaced.

8 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2013

Vehicle enters limp mode and all power is lost, engine starts to stutter and tachometer jumps, wrench light (power-train) comes on. 3 times in 1 week. Mph = 60, 45, 30. Avoided accident and pulled over. Restarted vehicle and back to normal. No check engine light or codes stored. Dealer states they cannot diagnose unless they can recreate the problem. Danger of rear ending, t-bones upon left turns, and intersection pileups.

9 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2013

Initially driving down the road at approximately 55 mph and the check engine light came on and the vehicle went into a stall. I lost all power even though the engine was sputtering. I pulled over and turned the vehicle off and restarted it. I lost power about 2 more times on a 20 mile trip. This has since happened during every drive on various distances. Sometimes at highway speeds and sometimes from a standstill.

10 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2013

While driving the vehicle at around 50 mph it lost all reaction to the accelerator and coasted to a stop while in heavy traffic. I turned the car off and waited 5 minutes, then started it again and began to drive. Within seconds the vehicle repeated the incident. I managed to get it into my driveway after repeated stops and restarts of the engine.

11 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2013

When driving on a busy 4 lane road, the vehicle suddenly lost fuel power and began creeping down the road at less than 5 km/h the wrench light was flashing and it was a few hundred meters to the nearest side street, fortunately I was able to make it to the side street without getting struck by traffic moving 60 km/h faster than I was, I thought that the computer may have had a one time failure but this happened again 3 days after with my young son in the back seat. That was Monday oct 14 2013, I am super mad at Ford for not recalling this throttle body problem already it seems like a constant point of failure and it is unsafe to drive these cars when this is happening.

12 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2013

As I was driving and the cruise control was set the road I was traveling had slight hills. It seems as though when the car went to down shift and speed up is when it lost power and went into limp mode. The last occurrence was on 10-17-13 while I was driving on a flat road. I had to brake for traffic when I went to accelerate is when it lost power and went into limp mode.

13 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2013

While driving on the highway, at approximately 65 mph, the vehicle bucked and instantaneously slowed down and was unable to accelerate. At that moment when the vehicle bucked the dash indicator (a wrench) came on showing the problem being the throttle control/powertrain. I was on the highway in the middle lane, in traffic when I lost the ability to accelerate and was luckily able to navigate to the right and coast to the exit that was less than a quarter mile from the incident. I placed it into park and it sputtered just prior to turning off the vehicle completely. After waiting about 10 minutes I then restarted the vehicle and the dash indicator did not come on, I therefore proceeded and drove it home. Because this occurred late evening I was not able to contact the dealer until the following day.

14 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2013

I was driving to work on the expressway during the morning rush hour doing 70 mph when my vehicle stalled. I had to risk moving over three lanes to the off ramp without having power. I rolled up the exit ramp and pulled safely to the side of the road. I was able to restart the car but noticed both the check engine light and service light were on. The car died two additional times before I got to an auto repair shop. The repair shop told me the service code was p2111 which indicated a problem with the throttle. This was a terrible incident and I was relieved to make it safely off the road.

15 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2013

I was traveling in the center lane on I-75 at 65 mph when my car lost power. The car continued to run but had no acceleration. Their were cars beside and behind me. I finally was able to get off the freeway and into the emergency lane. I cut the engine off and restarted it, it acted the same. The orange wrench light came on. I decided to drive it to the next exit which was about two miles. I finally got to the exit and called the local Ford dealership and was told by service people they had no way of getting the vehicle to their shop and was also told I could call or they would call for me a tow truck. I called several places and finally found a private garage that was available to come and pick me and the vehicle up. They told me while loading the vehicle on the tow truck that they had the equipment to check it out and repair it. They contacted me after checking the system out and stated that the drive by wire was bad and the throttle control body needed cleaning. To made a long story short after the tow bill, parts and labor to repair the vehicle it cost me 747. 38. I feel that Ford motor company should be responsible for some of the expenses if not all. They should at least have a recall and check this part for malfunction before someone gets hurt or killed from this safety issue.

16 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2013

Pulling out from a red light car accelerated to 25 and lost all engine power. Stepped on accelerator and nothing happened. Coasted to a stop. In passing lane. Shut off, waited 30 seconds, and restarted to drive away. Traffic behind me in passing line trying to go around me unsafely. Ford dealership tested and said failed throttle body. Mechanic said he has seen quite a few of these. Cost $358. 00. Thank goodness I was not on I-95 which I travel often when this happened.

17 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

2009 Ford Escape 40k miles. Driving down the road in normal driving conditions the vehicle started shaking slightly the idle started fluctuating and the tachometer started rapidly spiking up and down as well as a loss of acceleration. The vehicle also is stalling. Shutting the engine off and restarting vehicle temporarily fixes the problem. It would appear it is the same throttle body issue everyone else is having. Brought the vehicle in for service the dealer said it was not covered under warranty or my extended warranty that I purchased.

18 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2013

We were driving to biloxi mi to the va clinic from pace FL and when we arrived at the va clinic on Sunday to get our hotel our car started hesitating. When we left to go to the hotel we was going about 40 coming up to a red light and my wife lost the throttle and a wrench showed on the dash. We had no gas pedal so I told her to let it coast to the side of the road and turn it off. It cranked up went a mile and done the same thing so here we are stuck in mississippi with no car.

19 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2013

This has happened to me on 8 occasions in rapid succession. In all instances, I am driving along as usual, and all of a sudden, my accelerator becomes non-responsive. The car is still running, but I am quickly losing speed, I cannot accelerate, and the engine does not rev when I press on the accelerator. I must stop the car, put it in park, turn it off, and restart the car in order to "fix" the problem and continue driving. Simply putting the car in neutral, turning it off and restarting it will not remedy the situation.

20 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2013

Truck failed to accelerate from a red light, with pedal completely engaged. Had continued loss power/thrust when I push the gas. This happens so often now, I am not comfortable driving in heavy traffic as I never know if I'll be able to accelerate. Sunday after finally getting home, I was unable to get it to stay cranked when I depress the gas pedal to reverse. This loss of power was exuberated by having the a/c running. First the timing cover leaks at 22, 761, then a pulley falls off the engine at 40,149 spraying oil all over my interior via the a/c. After the pulley was replaced the car would idle high and then started jerking as if it wanted to stall, took to Ford dealership and was told there were no codes, finally had the tech drive with me and he felt the jerking. After three visits for this, in November 2012 at 50,000 I was am told the coil pack needs to be replaced, now at 55, 063 miles I am told it is the throttle body that needs to be replaced? I think I was sold a lemon and in the state of florida that's illegal. What if I am rear ended due to the horrible craftsmanship of your product?.

21 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2012

2009 Ford Escape. Consumer writes in regards to acceleration problems. The consumer stated she was driving in the city, at 50 mph, when suddenly the vehicle failed to accelerate. Her foot was all the way to the floor, but it would not accelerate. She also noticed two symbols, a gas and a wrench light, appeared on the left side of the dashboard. She was able to pull over, and turned the engine off. Shortly after she turned the engine off and started it again, she was able to drive without any problem. She contacted the dealer, and was advised to monitor the situation. On December 21, 2012, as she was driving 40 mph in the city, the vehicle suddenly failed to accelerate again. At that time, only the symbol of the wrench appeared on the left side of the dashboard. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for an inspection, only to be told, they could not find a problem.

22 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2011

Drive south on I-95 at rush hour heading home. With no warning engine power just goes away, check engine light came on and no matter how much the gas pedal was push there was no power from engine, hurried as it slowed down to the right lane and was able to exit. Shut off engine for 5 minutes started it up and all was good. 2nd time was light came on and engine just fluttered, service tech stated that the codes in computer were throttle actuator open.

23 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

I've had to replace the throttle body for my vehicle once before approximately in August 2011. The car would stall and then turn off. Fuel didn't seem to be passing thru while I was driving and when I was at stop lights. Often times, it turned off and I would have to wait a while for it to turn back on. When I was at stop lights and this happened, I would have to press on the brake and the gas at the same time to try to avoid the car turning off. My car was not safe to drive because I never knew when it was going to stall or turn off in the middle of the road. I finally was able to get this fixed. I am now having the same problem again with this car. It hasn't been that long ago when I had this fixed. I keep checking to see if there are any recalls for this vehicle and part and have not seen anything. I don't understand why there is no recall for this part. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to have the dealer pay for this repair.

24 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2011

While driving vehicle on busy 4 lane city street vehicle just stopped running. Driver was able to coast to center left turn lane bringing vehicle to a stop. Vehicle would not start and had to be towed. Dealership replaced inertia switch. Concern is if fuel shut off switch (inertia switch) had failed while driving on highway at 70 mph with loss of power steering and power brakes it is any ones guess what the outcome may have been. There was no accident, sudden start or sudden stop to cause the switch to fail.
