I have a 2009 Ford Escape approximately 120,000 miles on it. A couple of months ago while driving to work in the early morning I saw deer standing in the road, they usually almost always move out of the road. As I got closer it was obvious it wasn't going to move, so I put the brakes on and the pedal went to the floor. . . Thud. . . Bump. . . Crunch but the deer hobbled off. I pulled over and no visible damage to the front end, I look over and the deer was in the field putting on its best break dancing moves and suddenly took a nap. I got back in the vehicle pumped the brakes a couple of times and brakes came back, off to work I went. After work on the way home no a/c, when I got home there was some damage to the a/c condenser. Then just yesterday leaving work in the Escape, someone walked in front of me I put the brakes on and to the floor again. . . Pump-pump-pump and stop. . . . . Slowly. . . . The person in front of me had a look of shock that I was 6 inches from them. Sorry I yell out they nod back begrudgingly. I think ya buddy you made out a lot better than that deer a couple of months ago. And OH ya now I always have brakes that go to the floor.
Starter stuck was still running after turning car off and removed key I replaced my starter to find that the ignition switch went out now my car won't start the car was parked when this happened not running.
Abs, parking brake, and anti-skid lights all on. The repair shop says the abs modul needs to be replaced.
Took my vehicle to Ford and another local garage for issues with the brakes not stopping the vehicle properly (soft pedal and longer distance to stop). After replacing all the mechanical parts the issue persisted. Ford couldn't find the issue, but the other garage thinks it's the abs module. No fault codes or anything to back this up. Not sure how to test it and it's not worth the vehicle value to replace it. For now the car is parked. I think Ford knows about this problem and needs to issue a recall.
Faulty abs module. The brake pedal goes all the way to the floor without engaging the brakes. This happens when the vehicle is in motion.
Brake pedal goes to the floor after vehicle brakes applied during a semi hard stop, people have reported this issue many times and found the issue to be the abs control module. This is a big safety issue and needs to have a recall to repair before some is killed or injured. I don't understand why a recall has not been issued so far as complaints go back several years for this same issue. Please investigate this before someone is hurt or killed. I have seen in many post that it is about a 2000. 00 plus repair. I am a senior citizen and live on a fixed budget. I bought it from another party and it has 92000 miles on it. This issue has happened on multiple occasions last time about 3 weeks ago. This needs to be recalled please, for safety sake. The vehicle was on a city street in motion when someone cut in front of me and I had to apply the brakes to avoid hitting the vehicle that cut me off. I was able to make it back home and the brakes tend to return to normal after pumping and letting vehicle sit. Really scarred me everytime it happens.
I bought my Ford Escape limited, 4 wheel-drive SUV in August, 2009 from a dealer in baltimore county, maryland. Later I retired from the maryland highway administration and moved to augusta, GA in February, 2015. In mid 2020 I saw the abs light showing the my vehicle needed a repair to the abs system. When I took the vehicle to my friendly mechanic shop, he told me that the abs module was defective and that he could not fix it. Since then I have been having a serious safety problem with the abs module which makes driving my vehicle very risky, especially when it is raining. The risk is felt whenever I am driving and need to stop at the red light or when another vehicle suddenly comes close to my vehicle which requires a quick decision to avoid accident using the abs system that was designed for that purpose. In that case, I had difficulties stop and my vehicle will often pull to the left even with new brake pads on. That poses a serious safety threat. But as auto makers, the Ford company know or should know that nearly all Ford Escape and Mercury mariner vehicles are assumed to have abs module and other defects. Sadly, the Ford company neglected to notify me of the recall. The defects in the abs module of my SUV pose a serious safety risk to me; so, that is very concerning to me. Thanks for your help with this complaint. Note: I coincidentally found the recall information last night on google search on 9/20/2021. Date of this complaint: 9/21/2021.
Tl- the contact's wife owns a 2009 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at 65 mph, the contact's wife was forced to make a hard stop due to a pedestrian walking on the highway. Since that incident, the contact's brakes had become soft and would depress to the floor without warning. The contact stated that the brake pedal would have to be pumped multiple times to come to a stop. The vehicle was taken to four independent mechanic who were unable to diagnose or repair the problem. Upon investigation, a mechanic discovered NHTSA campaign number: 19v904000 (service brakes, hydraulic) which was a recall found on 2009 Ford fusions. The mechanic linked this same recall with the contact's wife failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that his vehicle was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. Jo.
When applying the brakes the pedal goes all the way to the floor and barely stops. This has happened on city streets, country roads and highway. At first it did not do it very often, but it is now doing it at least once a week. It is very scary when trying to come to a stop and the brakes are not there. It used to get better by pumping the brakes, but this is not working all the time anymore.
On hwy, going to turn. . . Brake pedel went to floor. . . Pumped. . Little, then to floor. . . Kept pumping. . . Nothing this time. The worsest. Have had to pump several times in past, (did pump up enough to stop) need fixed. . . Senior & fixed income!.
Brakes are mushie and the peddle goes to the floor, Ford has checked it and clint find a problem. Yet looking on the internet there are a host of people having the same issue,.
I was driving down the road at approx. 40mph and had to brake because a car entered my lane right in front of me. When I braked it was somewhat a hard brake. I didn't, however, slam on the brakes. I hear the abs come on and after that my brake pedal went to the floor.
I was driving my Ford Escape and when I pressed my breaks there was a bang sound and the break pedal went to the floor. Lost all break pressure while driving.
The contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, the pedal extended to the floor and the vehicle did not immediately stop. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the brake master cylinder however, the failure recurred. The local dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the failure was due to a faulty abs module however, the part was on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 200,000.
I was driving my 2009 fo d Escape last November 21, 2018 and I was to drive in when the light turn green and I was stepping on the brake pedal then suddenly my brake was on the floor. It still stop but I turned on my hazard light to be safe. It will still stop but the brake was on the floor. When I got home I checked the brake where you put the brake fluid and it was still full. I started the car and stepped on the brake pedal and it was working again. I do not know why it happened. Anyone has the same problem? thank you.
On a snowy morning the brakes were applied normally and the slippery conditions caused anti-lock brakes to activate. They seemed to work normally, but after that activation the brake pedal felt very soft and would not engage the brakes until the very end of the pedal travel. The vehicle would still stop, but the brakes were unpredictable and unsafe. The problem was diagnosed as a bad hydraulic control unit (hcu) and was replaced with the abs module as a unit ($1700). The new unit required reprogramming and bleeding at the dealership ($200). Because this is a safety component within a reasonable mileage (140,000 vehicle mileage), this should be addressed by the oem with at least a TSB.
The car steering column started to lock up while it was parked when you start the car the steering wheel wouldn't turn after awhile it would you were able to turn on the car in the steering wheel were function after a while the car would do it while driving the car was brought over to the dealership steering column was replaced a few months later same issues steering wheel column or steering wheel would hit when turned brought back to the dealership it was replaced the second time now all electronics relating to the brakes are having issues like brake switch starts to malfunction or brakes get locked up. The car would have troubles either parked or while driving. I bought the car from a dealership so I'm not sure if this car had prior issues to that nothing was disclosed when I purchased it. I am aware of other Ford Escape 2009 models have the same issue and have been recalled.
While driving the steering wheel gets stuck as if I'm out of power steering fluid, which it's not. Also, the wheels are shaky and feel like their about to come off. Someone hit my vehicle and it completely went out. Now I'm paying for a rental until gets fixed and I'm paying for the repairs instead of the company.
When driving vehicle the break pedal suddenly goes to floor panel and needs to be pumped to get breaks working again>.
The contact's daughter owns a 2009 Ford Escape. On several occasions, while the vehicle was in reverse, the contact's daughter depressed the brake pedal but the vehicle failed to stop. The contact stated that his daughter continued to depress the brake pedal until the vehicle would stop. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified and referred the contact to NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. The VIN was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. While the contact's spouse was driving various speeds, the steering wheel seized and the power steering failed. While making right or left turns, the steering failed without warning on several occasions. Also, when the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle lunged forward without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The local Ford dealer and the manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.
When I accelerate my wheel feels like it's slipping and grinding and when I apply the brakes hard they seem to not want to stop keeping my abs on I feel the grinding and brake issue coming from the front wheel. When I step on the gas the front wheel hops and doesn't get traction wants to constantly slip and when I stop in snow the brakes lock up in front and abs stays on for a bit might be gear drive or bearing it's getting bad. This happens when I have to give a lot of gas to go and the abs when I need to really stop. This started a couple months after I financed it through genthe Chevrolet but I work many hours and it has to be fixed before I end up stranded or in an accident. When I first test drove it it was acting up I told the salesman dave teska he told me it was fixed but he must of doped it like the interior it looked new when I bought it now it has stain spots and looks dirty I found out it was a Ford fabric problem and they can't do anything. I'll never buy another vehicle again from genthe. ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly; 3 - VIN corrected, error in one position (assuming check digit is correct); 14 - unable to provide information for all the characters in the VIN. #vpic#.
When depress brake pedal it goes to the floor before vehicle will begin stopping. This occurs almost always over the last few months. This is very unsafe condition. Local Ford dealership said they have seen this same issue several times and that it likely needs a new abs module/hydraulic control unit. This is a $1600 part from Ford. This is an extreme cost and very unsafe condition, and I cannot afford to repair or continue unsafely drive my vehicle. Please help make this a required recall.
I was driving in a neighborhood and as I was approaching a stop sign, I slowly started to brake. As I came closer to the stop sign, suddenly the brake pedal felt like it just "dropped out" and I slid through the stop sign and had to slam my foot on the brake pedal all the way to the floor and thankfully was able to stop, but was in the middle of the road at this point. This was very scary and I am thankful that there were no other cars around that I could have been hit or injured. I pulled over and turned off the car and then back on. Started driving again and tested the brakes, which barely worked now. I have to press the brake pedal to the floor to even start slowing down. I took it to my Ford dealership and they charged me $99 just to run the diagnostic test that told me that it was my hydraulic control unit for the abs system that is bad and it would cost an additional $2,100 to replace it. They would have to order the part, but wouldn't get there for 3 days, meaning I would have to continue to drive like this for another few days because I have to get to work with this vehicle. The part did not come in for 3 weeks, not days and I had to drive around like this. I have been doing research on this to see if this has happened to anyone else, and it has. Be careful of this, as it can be very dangerous and I got lucky that I was not injured. I called Ford to see if there was a recall, which there wasn't (yet) and they contacted the dealership and started a case for me to see if there was anything that could be done to help me out financially. The dealership did not help me at all since I did not purchase my car there. The lady on the phone from Ford was great and very helpful. She told me to hold onto my receipt b/c if there ever was a recall, (which there should be because these are people's lives at risk due to this failing part) they would refund 100% of the money.
After driving over a short section of rough pavement the brake pedal was soft later making stopping difficult, and nearly running a stop sign. Abs control unit was replaced at a cost of over $2000.
The contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. While driving 30 mph, the abs, brake, and traction control warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the abs control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 21,300.
Entering a parking space in a grocery store lot. When I applied the brakes it seemed I got a simutaneus engine acceleration and the car surged forward hitting the facing car.
While coming to a stop at a major intersection with a car in front of me, my 2009 Ford Escape suddenly accelerated and would not stop, despite my frantic efforts to brake the car; I swerved to my right, went through 6 inches of snow on grass curb and then went up a 5 ft. Ice bank, where my wheels jammed in the ice and I stopped, sitting at nearly a 45 degree angle, 5 ft. Above the road. My front bumper was mangled in the ice bank and my passenger-side mirror was broken off by a stop sign. If not for the snow bank, I would have continued into the very busy intersection, where I and other drivers would have undoubtedly been injured or killed. I want to emphasize that despite hitting the brake, the car with unintended acceleration problem, did not stop, it kept going until hitting the snow-ice bank.
I was traveling on the turnpike when all at once my car jerked then lost power, I was unable to steer the car so I coasted on the median till the car allowed me to turn onto an exit ramp. My husband came and checked the truck, it started and seemed to be okay. The entire month of November the truck starts however the steering wheel is locked. I have to cut the car off and on at least 6 times while trying to turn the wheel before it unlocks and allows me to move the steering wheel. My husband called the Ford dealer and was advised that the entire steering column would need to be replaced, and I would have to bear the cost. I don't feel this is fair because I researched this matter and found there are a lot of complaints about this matter. I am not able to drive the truck because I'm afraid there could be a catastrophe. I think something should be done to fix this matter. Thanks.
The contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard upon being depressed without warning. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road where the engine was turned off. The failure persisted and the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the brake hydraulic control unit would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
Driving and vehicle kept acting like it was stalling while trying to drive. Knew that the gas was not low, so wasn't sure what the issue was. Made it to destination and called mechanic. Brought it in to the shop, still with intermittent stalling while driving. Ran a test and said that the throttle actuator control system was stuck open - this has seemed to be a problem with Ford Escape vehicles. Got it fixed with no incidents, but could have been worse.
During a cold start and vehicle is put in either drive or reverse, the brake pedal is momentarily unresponsive and has to be press extremely hard in order to engage brakes. At times the brake pedal has to be "pumped" to stop the vehicle. It feels as if there aren't any power brakes. Frequency of occurrence has increased over time at first the problem occurred rarely, now more often then not. The vehicle was brought to the Ford dealer with the issue in 06/2012, they found no problem. I am bring the vehicle in again 12/10/2012. Since this time I have searched the internet and have found others with the same problem.
I purchased a new 2009 Ford Escape in December 2008. It has about 25000 miles on it. In the last two weeks, I have been having issues with brake. When I backup vehicle, sometimes the brake is stuck, and cannot be pressed down anymore, it feels like the brake is locked. The vehicle will continue move as brake is locked. This situation has happened twice today as 05/10/2010. One was in the morning and another was in the afternoon. The vehicle hit the street curb as it cannot be stopped. I was lucky as there was no traffic or people behind of me.
59 yr. Woman no drugs never. Non smoker. Attending traffic very concentrated. 17 years without an accident. It is true I was driving this car for a few days before without noticed any problem. Also it is true I didn't try to stopped suddenly at any time before. Usually I drive very safe taking a rational distance from other cars. It happened into a tied traffic at 125 ne street, north miami, south FL at approx 6 pm last Friday 3/13/09 no more that 25 miles per hour because traffic is usually dense at that time on that street. Under a green light the 1st car in row suddenly stopped to make an unauthorized left. All the cars behind in the line stopped to hit the one in front, one by one. I was the last in the row. Although I tried to stop my car very hard with enough distance it didn't stopped. I hit the brake with all my soul to avoid the impact but I it didn't work as I expected. I was driving a rented SUV-Ford Escape hybrid 2009. The car kept running until hit the last car in the row. Accident was not my fault, I didn't get the ticket. It was a rented car. Now the insurance will try to collect from me the $1000 deductible of my policy. I don't know what the solution would be. American manufacturers have bigger problems, larger recalls and are generally less reliable day by day, and we people are paying for them.
