Gasoline Fuel System problem #1

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while attempting to refuel the vehicle, the fuel filler door would not open and the contact attempted to use a screwdriver to open the fuel filler door. The contact was not able to refuel the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer performed the recall repair for NHTSA campaign number: 16v777000 (fuel system, gasoline). However, the dealer did not have time to repair the fuel filler door. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.

2010 Ford Escape. Consumer writes in regards to NHTSA recall 16v-777 fuel delivery module.

Gasoline Fuel System problem #3

On Dec. 31 at approximately 2 p. M. I was driving south on citrus Ave. I was going 55 mph and my vehicle started losing speed. I moved to the side of the road. I turned off the ignition and when I restarted the car it ran as normal. Prior to that, on several occasions upon starting from a stop I had noticed faster acceleration than the amount of pressure I was applying to the gas pedal.

Gasoline Fuel System problem #4

I was driving along a road and suddenly my car jolted and almost all of my dashboard lights lit up. The engine was on, but nothing was happening. I pushed the accelerator down and nothing, still. As I was pulling off to the side of the road, the car died. I waited five minutes and the engine was able to be restarted. But the engine light stayed on. I had to turn the engine on and off multiple times to restart the engine. This had happened a couple of times before, but nothing as severe.

Gasoline Fuel System problem #5

At night, while stopped on red traffic light waiting for change to green, the vehicle stalls an shut off. Did not start right over until a while. All dashboard panel lights were on. After 45 minutes tried to start it and it just move very, very slow and did not accelerate until it died again a 100 feet farther. We call road assistance to take us home in a towing truck. At the other day we call the towing truck again to take the SUV to the dealer since it was in warranty, when we start it before leaving it was working fine. The service tech at Ford tell us that probably it is the throttle body since other people has been having the same issue. They test it and they say that nothing is wrong. . . My warranty is about to expire and I think that they are playing us to take the unit home and when it happen again charge us for the cost of the part. . . $$$$ very expensive!!! this is a hazardous issue since it can happen while driving it can cause an accident or lost of life.

Gasoline Fuel System problem #6

I am having problems with the throttle body on my 2010 Ford Escape doing a lot of the same things. Its throwing itself into limp home mode and power failure with the throttle and shifting problems. And no power when stepping on the gas. I have read up on all the reports and the investigation. So I proceeded to take my car to town east Ford in mesquite texas where I purchased the car from. The service tech guy at town east Ford. Refused to acknowledge the investigation and refused to check my car out without me paying him a bunch of money and refused to call my extended warranty without collecting the money up front. He proceeded to tell me that their dealership is not part of Ford so therefore he has no idea what is going on and I can show him all I want to on the internet but he refuses to do anything until I pay all the money up front even though they are a Ford dealership. The tech was very rude and I finally left there without getting my car fixed and still having problems. Ford needs to come out with this recall before someone winds up in serious wrecks from it and the dealerships need to honor the products and vehicle they sell of Ford.

Gasoline Fuel System problem #7

On Wednesday, August 28, 2013 I was on the interstate, outside of town when I accelerated to merge lanes & my Escape started lurching and I lost power causing my car to cost to a stop. I was able to limp to a location that was safe and had to call for a tow truck. I had it taken to the dealership where it was purchased and where I have all maintenance done on it. I was told by landmark Ford service that it was the throttle body and that it would take about two weeks to get the part in and around $520. 00 to fix it. I spoke with Ford corp and they said they are aware of this problem (thus, the back order on replacement parts). My Escape is 3 years old.

Gasoline Fuel System problem #8

Escape sputtered & stalled. Restarted & was serviced by Ford to 'clean' the throttle body. Within a few days, it exhibited the same behavior but much more frequent rendering the car unreliable. Replacement parts are not available from the dealer for another 3-4 weeks.

Gasoline Fuel System problem #9

The engine lost power while driving multiple times in traffic which caused a dangerous situation. There was a limited area which to pull the car off away from moving traffic. The throttle body is at fault.

Gasoline Fuel System problem #10

I was driving under normal driving conditions on the expressway when the car suddenly jerked and I no longer could accelerate and the service engine light on the dashboard began flashing. Fortunately, I was able to get on to the shoulder and call a tow truck. It was due to a faulty throttle body. Per the dealer where my vehicle was towed to, the part needed was on Ford's national backorder list and they did not know when the part would become available. It took 5 weeks to get the part. It has only been about 7 weeks and my car did the same jerk on the expressway again today. I was able to continue driving to work as no service lights ignited on the dashboard, but I will be taking my vehicle in to get checked again.

Gasoline Fuel System problem #11

Car stalled on highway at 70 miles per hour. Seemed like car shutoff, but later realized that car was still on but not moving. Took to dealer it was diagnosed as throttle body was defective. Quite dangerous due to sudden loss of control on highway, easily could of been hit by other car.

Gasoline Fuel System problem #12

While traveling on the highway, the car stopped responding to the gas pedal being push, and started slowing down suddenly. Pulled over to the side of the road, where the car sputtered, and turned it off. Popped the hood everything looks good. Turned the car on again, started going, and it happened again. When I pulled over a second time, let the car sit roughly 5 minutes, turned over and was able to make it to an auto zone to run the diagnostics. Took it to a Ford dealership and was advised that not only can they not fix it currently, but they don't know when the part will become available to fix it, since the part is currently being redesigned. I'm scared to drive my SUV, especially since it's with my two and half year old with me. I'm afraid of being left stranded.

Gasoline Fuel System problem #13

For the past 8 months my Escape has been stalling while I am driving or at a stop light, and when I am at a complete stop the car moves forward without stepping on the gas pedal!!!.

Gasoline Fuel System problem #14

One night I was driving in a residential area and my car started to rumble, it shook back and forth and the engine started to splutter. Then, the engine choked and the car stalled in the middle of the street. The car shut itself off. Luckily, this happened before I entered the freeway. The check engine light went on and at first I thought it might have been a battery problem. However, after the car shut off I tried to start the car and I was able to drive it for a couple minutes until it started to stall again. This happened three times in one night within a thirty minute time frame. So, I had to wait a while for my engine to cool down. I took it to galpin Ford motors service and they told me they could not diagnose the problem. I went back the second time to get my vehicle re-checked after two days because the problem occurred again and galpin Ford was still not able to resolve the issue. I recently just took it back because my car choked in the middle of an intersection and I am still disappointed by the way galpin Ford services handled the situation. I feel like my life is at risk driving this vehicle. I have researched this make and model for incidents just like mine because I'm sure this is a defect with the Ford Escape models.

Gasoline Fuel System problem #15

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and a smoke test was performed. The dealer located a leak in the system with the potential for fuel leakage as well. The valve solenoid, valve assembly pipe and the fuel filler pipe were all recommended for replacement. The manufacturer was notified and a complaint was filed but no assistance was offered. The vehicle was repaired at a cost of $ 931. 64. The failure and current mileage was 70,480. Updated 03/01/lj the component failures based on what the dealer provided, which was a smoke test, confirmed the fuel system was leaking fuel vapors into the atmosphere and any places that fuel vapors could Escape. Updated 03/07/13.

Gasoline Fuel System problem #16

When refueling the vehicle, a strong fuel odor is present and about a quart of fuel leaks from under the vehicle. This leak does not come from a spillage at the pump handle and filler tube. This happens every time I refuel. Obviously this is a dangerous fire hazard!.

Gasoline Fuel System problem #17

At stop or idle, engine surges, hesitates, stalls, smell gas, check engine light comes on. Took Escape to dealer. Dealer says its the purge valve and evap canister. Purge valve failed and raw gas filled evap canister. Dealer says its out of warranty, theres nothing they can do. This has been a know problem since 2006, TSB bulletin 11-3-22, part # 9u5z-9c915h-purge valve, part # 9r3z-9c985-b evap canister. Ford has done nothing to correct the issue. They replaced the damaged parts with the same parts with no fix for the spillage of raw fuel, on the ground, in the air, on the vehical. This raw fuel situation could cause a fire or explosion at any time. Yet Ford says its not an emission issue and the vehical is out of warranty. The Ford forums on the internet are full of complaints for the same raw fuel spillage. Does someone have to die before Ford admits they have a design problem and fixes it??? this same issue is also related to the 2010-12 fusion.
