36 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2013

This is the second time this has happened to me. Both time I was on my way to work. The first time I was going about 45mph turning on the street to my office and the engine dies. I have no power. I am pressing on the gas and nothing. I stop the car and pit it in park. I restart the car and it starts right up. I think OH no big deal maybe I have a bad tank of gas. Maybe the engine was not getting any fuel. Did not think too much into the problem this morning it happens again! except I was going a lot faster and I was on the highway. I am going about 65mph and 10 minute away from work. I am in the far left lane and the engine dies. I instantly panic and need to get over five lanes of traffic. I put my flashers on luckily I still have power for those. I was able to get over on the side of the road before I came to a complete stop. I put it in park and take the key out. Sit there for a minute while I catch my breath because I just crossed 5 lanes of rush hour traffic with a engine that is not on. I put the key in and it starts right up. I press on the gas and I have power again. Why is this happening? I have been reading online about this problem and it sounds like this is happening to a lot of us. Ford is wrong for not coming out with a recall by now.

37 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2013

While driving in the middle lane of I 85 the engine turned off. I could not accelerate. The right lane became clear and I coasted the car onto the shoulder of the road. This was a terrifying experience especially at this speed with cars behind me.

38 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2013

Accelerator ceased working while vehicle was in motion. This was the 3rd instance in 2 months; however, the first time that pumping the accelerator failed to correct the issue. Turning off the engine and restarting the vehicle was required to correct at this point. Required the replacement of the throttle body.

39 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2013

On 2 separate occasions on 11-14-13, the 2011 Ford Escape lost throttle power and needed to be shut off and restarted, in order to gain throttle back. The 1st incident happened when my wife was driving approx. 35 mph, on local roads. This occurred at 8:00am on the 14th. The 2nd incident occurred at approx. 11:30 am on the 14th while I was driving 65 mph on interstate 81. Very dangerous issue. Pulled aside both times and restarted car to regain throttle. A wrench icon appeared both times. This is a significantly dangerous issue. I had a local garage assess and was directed to Ford dealership where I purchased car. Appt, for 11-19-13 at coccia Ford in wilkes-barre, PA.

40 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2013

After sitting at a red light, I tried to accelerate vehicle to get on the highway then vehicle hesitated and wouldn't respond to any attempts to accelerate and the engine light and wrench light came on. After completely turning the car off and trying to restart it, it took approx 7 seconds to turn over and after making another attempt to accelerate there wasn't any change. I did this two more times and on the third try, the vehicle responded to prompts from the accelerator. Both the engine light and wrench light were still lit up, but I drove the car to the autoport and was given the trouble code p2112 and was told that the throttle body assembly needed to be replaced.

41 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2013

I started accelerating after being at a complete stop at a light. Halfway through the intersection, the throttle lost power and I could no longer accelerate. The wrench light came on and I had to coast over to the side of the road with my hazards on until I could get out of traffic. As I applied the breaks and the car slowed down, it started shaking until I could put the car in park. I then turned off the engine for about 30 seconds. When I restarted the engine, it took longer than usual to start but seemed to be running fine and was not shaking. After waiting for it to run without problem, I slowly accelerated the car to continue my commute. Within 2 minutes of driving, the issue occurred again and both the wrench light and the check engine light came on. I once again pulled over, stopped the car, and turned off the engine. After I restarted the car, I drove to a gas station who was able to hook up the engine to a computer scanner. The technician came back with what he said was an " O2 sensor code. " he checked my fluids and reset the computer to turn off the check engine light and said I should be fine to drive the 30 miles home but should get it checked out ASAP. Within 20 miles of driving, the incident happened again. So I took it to the dealer. Since the check engine light was reset, there is no record of the code that came up, so the dealer spent an hour trying to get it to act up but has had no luck. The service advisor did say that although they cannot get the car to repeat the problem, they highly suspect that the throttle body needs to be replaced.

42 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2013

While driving along highway, my gas pedal suddenly became completely unresponsive. Was luckily able to coast off to shoulder of the highway and SUV began to idle extremely roughly. Restarted vehicle and was able to drive home without additional problems. Researched issue today and found numerous examples of this problem. Issue should be recalled!!.

43 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

The vehicle went to idle and would not accelerate until the engine was switched off and restarted. It has happened several times since. Our dealer says they cant diagnose unless they have the vehicle while it is in idle only.

44 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2013

Complete loss of power, no throttle response, loss of speed on highway. Dash shows wrench, check engine light. Was able to pull off road, turned off engine. Restarted car. Same situation within another 3 miles of restart. Auto zone verified code p2111. This failure put the family into a very dangerous situation at highway speeds.

45 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2013

Wrench light came on, all throttle response stopped. I was left at a traffic light with a car that would barely move. Took the car to the dealer - they tried to charge me to replace the electronic throttle body. The car was only out of warranty by 1000 miles. Ended up compromising on paying $100. Ford needs to fix this. They know it's an issue.

46 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2013

While driving on the highway, the car suddenly shuttered and stalled. Check engine light went on and the driver had to guide car to shoulder while avoiding oncoming traffic. No one was injured but the driver was scared and this was a very dangerous situation. The car was towed to our service station and they found that the electronic throttle control was potentially defective or impaired.

47 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2013

On 10/16/13, while driving on the freeway at 60mph and attempting to accelerate vehicle lost power in the center lane forcing me to have to make a dangerous move without power to try and bring the vehicle to rest in the emergency breakdown lane on the right. The vehicle "check engine light" came on along with some other type of wrench light. Was able to start the vehicle up right away but this time the check engine light stayed on. Code p2112 - electronic throttle body was replaced by Ford on 10/17/13 for $320. 76 vehicle also lost power on 10/10/13 while at a low speed and trying to accelerate to enter the freeway. The wrench light came on but not the check engine light. Was able to restart the vehicle and the wrench light went away.

48 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2013

While driving down the freeway the car suddenly surged for a second and then lost all power. There was no gas going to the engine and I could not produce any speed. I had to coast to a stop while moving over in the freeway lane to the shoulder. When I did stop, the engine sounded like it had trouble getting fuel to it. I turned off the engine and sat for a second and when I turned the car back on it started up and would go. Over the past months this has happened on and off. Some days it drives fine and then all of a sudden it will do the same aspect.

49 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2013

When on freeway loses all throttle have to coast to side of road and restart. Had to replace the throttle body at dealership with a total cost of 533. 13. Was not covered under warranty?.

50 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2013

I was driving approx. 10 mph, the gas peddle stopped working, I would press it but nothing happened. The little wrench appeared on the dash. I stopped and the motor started running loudly and roughly shaking the vehicle. I put it in park, turned off the key, waiting a moment and restarted it. The restart took longer then normal but it was fine after that. This has happened 5 times now, each time I was going approx. 10-15 mph. It's dangerous because the car cannot driven out of the way of other vehicles. The 3rd time this happened I was slowing turning left through an intersection, there was oncoming traffic, had the car not cut off, I would have been safe to clear the intersection however it cut off making the oncoming driver swerve into the other lane to avoid hitting me. It's very scary and dangerous.

51 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2013

Vehicle loses power during operation at various speeds. The engine reverts to idle, revving below 1000rpm. Depressing the gas pedal has no effect on engine rpm or speed. The "wrench" light comes on, but without any code stored. If the car is turned off and then back on, the engine reluctantly starts, and the problem is not present, but the problem soon appears (within seconds). After several incidents today on my way to the auto shop, the "check engine" light came on and I was able to get the code: p2111, "binding throttle body - stuck open" and "tacm open or shorted". Taking the vehicle to the auto shop, they told me the throttle body assembly was not functioning correctly and needed replacement. This is currently being done as the vehicle is unsafe to drive in its present condition. This problem happened once before, about a month ago, and I immediately took the vehicle to the local Ford dealership. They could find nothing wrong, but said it sounded like a throttle or electrical problem, as they have seen numerous problems similar to this. They said there was no stored code for the "wrench" light. They told me the car was safe to drive but to bring the vehicle in if it happens again. At that time they would begin replacing parts until the problem went away as they were unable to diagnose the problem with the information provided, even though they had seen this problem before. This is a dangerous situation, particularly when driving on the highway or crossing an intersection, as the vehicle no longer has power to the drive train and can only coast to a stop. There should be a recall on this defective part.

52 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2013

I was pulling out of a shopping center onto four lanes. When I tried to accelerate the gas pedal did nothing. I managed to get over to the side of the road and ended up having to have the car towed to the dealership. Today I was called and told that the throttle body needs to be replaced.

53 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2013

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, there was a complete loss of acceleration power. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road. The engine was turned and after restarting, the vehicle resumed normal operation. The failure recurred ten times. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The technician informed the contact that the failure was contributed to the throttle body. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

54 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2013

The Escape, while driving on the freeway, starting idling high, and allowed no acceleration. This happened in October, and then again today. It has also at numerous times, "slipped" and accelerated very quickly when starting the car. Today, it happened again twice where it was idling very high and gas pedal didn't respond. We had to tow it to a dealership where we were told that the throttle body is shorted out.

55 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2013

The car just quit on the four lane highway in the passing lane and a couple of times on the city street in town found the throttle body and motor assemble bad.

56 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2013

I was driving down the hwy and my truck just abruptly slowed to 10 or less mile per hour. I had to cost over two lanes of traffic to the shoulder. This was very dangerous as the cars around me had no idea that I was having car troubles and just whizzed by at hwy speeds. Once I made it to the shoulder I was able to turn the truck off and restart it and get it to the dealership without a tow. Once at the dealership , they said there was no codes on the computer so there was nothing they could do until they had a code. This has happened four times and I still have not been able to get it fixed.

57 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

I was on the freeway on my 2011 Ford Escape the 4th lane when the car made a sudden noise of loss of power and my dashboard lights when dimmer. . . The power of my car was diminishing and it felt as if the car engine was going to die on me. . . Scary. . . I felt my heart drop to my stomach. . . Looked left and had cars coming on the contiguous lane so I could not move to the emergency lane/shoulder, looked right and fortunately no cars were coming immediately (my steering was still ok ) other cars were far away so I moved to my right 3 lanes and even though the car felt that it was going to stop I continued with the momentum it had. I was able to get off the freeway since there was an exit as I moved the 3 lanes. Very scary experience. The car sort of stalled at the corner but I was in a safe spot. I called the dealership immediately to ask for the roadside assistance number and the service department person asked me if I turned the car off would it start again? the car did start again as if nothing had happened. Really crazy! when the dealership checked it they diagnosed faulty throttle body, they fixed it apparently but now I am driving on the slow lane all the time unless I am passing because I have fears it might happen again. I lived a very scary situation.

58 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, there was a sudden loss of engine power as the wrench warning icon illuminated. The contact merged to the shoulder where the vehicle was restarted and resumed normally. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 60,000.

59 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2013

I could've [xxx] died. I was on a busy highway when my car died like the battery was died but the battery was fine and I had gas. I took my Ford Escape into the dealership to see what the problem was. My SUV needed something to do with the throttle. Im not very happy that I will need to pay 600 dollar to fix something that others with a Ford Escape are having the same problem. Ford needs to recall the Ford Escapes ASAP or give people a refund or discount or your company will lose alot of customers because Ford wont take responsibility for this. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

60 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2013

While driving on my morning work commute I was stunned when my 2011 Ford Escape just became unresponsive and was coasting on a 5 lane freeway doing 65 mph. I really did not know what was going on since the only signal that could classify a problem was the little wrench light at the bottom left of the dashboard that was on. I did not do anything out of the ordinary, and I did not notice anything out of the ordinary with the ride. My observations - rpms dropped below 1,000, speed was coasting but dropping since there was no acceleration, electrical was on, steering was sluggish like something was wrong, and a small shaking of the vehicle occurred. The only thing I could do is put my blinker to move to the shoulder but my fellow commuters did not respect that very well. So I promoted my desired to get off the freeway by turning my hazard emergency lights and that's when they started to move away from me to get to the shoulder. My experience did rattle me since I felt hopeless in a sense that I wanted to hit the brake and remembered that I was on a freeway which would be really bad. After pulling over to the shoulder I did manage to turn the vehicle off completely pull the key out and give it about a minute. After I started it up again I figured it was a single occurrence, which I was wrong when it happened again on the way home but I was down the street from my house.

61 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2013

My vehicle stalled twice yesterday while going though busy intersections and the wrench light came on. I would pull over at a super slow speed and then turn the car off and back on. Finding this rare for a well maintained 2 year old vehicle, I looked up "escape stalling" on google and found a plethora of complaints. I took it to the dealer today and mentioned what was happening with the car and what I had seen on the internet and he didn't give any credence to it. I am still waiting for a diagnosis and hope the problem can be repaired. Luckily there was no one behind me either time. . . But this could have easily been a very nasty accident because there is no warning that the car is going to stall. Notes: I purchased the vehicle in NJ February 2011.

62 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2013

While driving on the highway, my SUV jerked slightly and then just decelerated, and I could not maintain speed. I had to cross over 3 lanes to the side of the road and turned the SUV off. There was no warning, and I had not applied the break. I noticed the wrench light came on the dashboard. I waited a minute and turned the SUV on again. I was able to get to my destination, however, during this trip, the SUV jerked slightly again, but this time there was a slight acceleration. I was able to maintain a safe speed for the remainder of the trip, as it only lasted for a couple seconds. I contacted the service department of the dealership where I purchased the car and where I regularly take the car for maintenance. The serviceman knew exactly what the problem was when I described the problems I was having. He suggested I bring the car in for service as soon as possible. The car was towed to the dealership, and they replaced the electronic throttle. I was told it was not covered under warranty, but since I had an extended warranty, they would only charge me $100. 00. When I picked up the car, I actually paid $106. 00, and I was never informed that this was a recalled part. I should not have been charged anything, as Ford was well aware that this part was defective and have been for many months now.

63 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2013

My daughter was entering an intersection preparing to turn left. When she got enough of a clearing between vehicles to turn she went to accelerate to go thru with the left turn and she had no gas to go. The peddle hit the floor and the car died. She was able to coast thru the light with out being hit. But after that the car had to be towed home. We had to replace the throttle body on the vehicle. She was very lucky not to be in a serous crash because of this part going bad!.

64 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2013

As I was driving down the road, all the sudden without notice, the vehicle went to 1 rpm and 5 miles per hour. Tried to accelerate and it would not, then the wrench light came on. I put on my flashers immediately so I would not get rear ended by cars coming fast behind me. Then, the vehicle stalled out. The check engine light never came on. Sat there in the rain for a few minutes. Then, started the vehicle back up again, to get it home. Then, I was afraid to drive it, called the Ford dealer to get my vehicle in, they could not look at it until Monday of the next week, so had vehicle towed on Saturday to dealer---extra cost involved on a 2 year old vehicle. The service department looked at it, they could not duplicate the problem. I pick up the vehicle on 9/25/2013. Drove the vehicle for 4 days, then happened again on 9/29/13 and it had been raining. Then, drove the next day 9/30/13, again threw the wrench symbol after going to 1 rpm and 2 to 5 miles per hour and bucking, could not accelerate at all. It was dry on this day. Again, put my flashers on this time was going 30 mph on a narrow two lane road. Remember the service engine light never came on, but they were able to find a code this time. They said it was the throttle body, so I began asking more questions as to why Ford has not recalled this since so many across the USA are having issues. No one knows, so as a consumer on a tight budget --like many of us these days. . . . Gets to figure out all the money pieces. I guess I will need a third job just for vehicle repairs on a two year old vehicle. This was a very scary experience and Ford needs to do something about this before anyone else is seriously injured or killed. This problem should not be happening with a two year old maintained vehicle. Now because it is over the 36,000 miles more money out of pocket. . . . Geez.

65 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2013

The car stopped responding to the gas pedal as I was merging into traffic. I pulled over, turned the car off and waited 15 minutes. I turned it back on, had the same behavior when I tried pulling out of the parking lot. I had to toe the vehicle to the dealership. The mechanic knew right away what the issue was, mentioning that it was common. The dealer replaced the throttle body and charged a $100 premium to use my warranty, despite it being a "known" issue.

66 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2013

The vehicle just lost power and appeared to stall right in the middle of traffic. I pressed on the accelerator and nothing happened. . . . No power. I was able to coast over to the curb out of traffic. I turned the engine off and waited a few minutes and then turned it back on . I was able to make it home. The next morning I started the vehicle up again and started to drive it again and while it traffic it did the same thing again, I again lost power and coast over to the curb this time, I called aaa and was towed to a mechanic. I was told it was the throttle body.

67 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2013

Vehicle lost power. Would only idle. Wrench light illuminated. Had to shut vehicle off and restart.

68 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2013

Was driving for about an hour, then came to a stop light. When the light turned green and I pressed the accelerator, the engine died (but the car's electronics stayed on) and the check engine light came on, no movement from the car. I turned it off and back on. The engine struggled to start. I then proceeded to drive another half mile at about 55mph, and the engine stalled again while at driving speed. I managed to pull over, turned it off, waited 5 minutes, then was able to drive 3 miles home. A month and half later, my wife was driving at roughly 30mph and the engine did the same thing(stalled). Turned it off, struggled to start, but managed to drive 5 miles home. I took it to Ford in between the first and second incident, they said there was nothing wrong, but cleaned the throttle body. I have since learned of investigation # pe13-003 which appears to be the exact problem I am having. Ford has not helped me in the matter, but I believe this issue needs to be addressed.

69 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2013

I was driving to work in the morning and my Escape stalled while going through a four way intersection. I thought that this may have been an isolated incident so I continued driving. I then noticed while I was in traffic that the engine would shutter and not idle normally. It stalled again the next day. I took it to the Ford dealership in the city where I live with the check engine light on, they tested it and then the light reset itself?? they took it on a test drive and nothing happened with them while they were driving so they said that there was nothing that they could do. My car is shutting off while I am in trafic and driving, this is a serious safety issue. I have been blessed that the brakes work on the cars that drive around me or else I would have been in a serious accident on more than one occasion this week!!! please recall these cars and get them fixed before someone dies!!!!.

70 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

On 08/30/2013, my wife and I drove our 2011 Ford Escape which has the mileage of 38000 back home from a state park. When we were attempting accelerate the vehicle after a right turn from a stop light, the gas pedal suddenly stop working properly and would not accelerate, the wrench light was on. We stopped the car and restarted, it worked fine. Without thinking much about it, we drove on I-10 highway and luckily we get home safe. But it happened again on 09/01/2013 and 09/02/2013, respectively. This is definitely a safety issues which Ford company should resolve and I can't believed I drove it on highway with such hidden danger!!!.
