While coming to a stop sign, as I took my foot off the gas pedal, it surged forward at a fast speed the gas pedal went to the floor. It took me through the intersection and beyond before I was able to stop the car. It was very scary just thinking if there were anyone crossing the street it could have been very bad. Now im afraid to even drive my car not knowing if it will happen again. I call the service and cannot get appt. For 2 weeks. And it will be at my expense.

Oil engine leak . . Clicking sound from the front wheels when turning . .
I was driving on 169s and I lost steering. I was lucky to pull off to the side of the road. Found out it was the electric power steering assist torque sensor. I paid hundreds of dollars to get it fixed. I had to have a new steering column put in. I have to bring it back in to see if the computer is now affected by the replacement. The second incident involves losing the ability to accelerate on the highway when trying to pass. My child and I almost died! why are all the models years not recalled??.

My 2012 Ford Escape suddenly loses power when driving. It happened on the highway and I was almost rear ended. I googled the symptoms and found that it is probably the etb electronic throttle body. This is dangerous and NHTSA did not issue a recall or protect the public by requiring Ford to provide towing. Instead NHTSA only required that Ford extend the warranty an additional 10 years leaving Ford owners at risk of injury or worse.
While driving, everything cut off. I could not accelerate, the power steering turned off, and I had to try and safely pull over. Luckily, each time I was in a position where I could pull over safely. Restarted the vehicle and everything seemed normal. This is extremely scary and unbelievably dangerous!!! please Ford, do something about this! have taken it in for service and no code can be found and everything passes the diagnostic tests. What can be done??.

The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 70,000.
Driving and car went into power failure mode and wrench displayed on dash display. Found paperwork about throttle body safety recall. Decided to have safety recall 16s41 fuel module done also since it was going in for work. On sept 5, 2017 took to keystone Ford chambersburg 717-264-5104. After both repairs done I was starting car to leave- had very long crank time. Had service person come out to hear and he said" sounds like your starters going bad". Left Ford and car continued with long crank times- never had this problem before they worked on it. Took back on sept 8,2017- they found nothing but said I needed new fuel pump $700. 00. I complained because they had worked on the fuel pump and then it went bad!! clayton black offered me to do the fiel pump for $509 and no cost for labor. Also if not fixed don't have to pay for work done. Went to parson's interstate Ford shippensburg for 2nd opinion. They said they could do the fuel pump for $474 which included labor! when parson's removed the fuel pump they said a ring was loose and would have eventually leaked gas- would have been dangerous. Keystone didn't have it on correctly! I want keystone to pay for the fuel pump repair they caused the damage to- $499.
On two separate occasions, my 2012 Ford Escape has completely shut off on me while driving at about 40 mph. I had to coast to the side of the road, one time on a side road and the other on a highway while trying to accelerate, and then turn the car off and back on again. Both times that seemed to correct the problem. This is an extremely dangerous defect that seems to have been reported by many other 2012 Escape owners on forums/blogs.
While driving vehicle it started making a lot of noise and vibrating a lot. Checked lug nuts and found all tight. Got under vehicle and found the right drive shaft had come apart. Have never had one fail suddenly like this. Had car towed to Ford dealer. Upon inspection the found one of the motor mount bolts had backed all the way out, a second one had backed out a little and broke, the third remained tight but had sheared off. This allowed the engine to drop drop and destroyed the drive shaft. Bought this vehicle new in 2012. Bolts have never been loosened during this time. Dealer has no explanation as to why they would come loose. Mileage at time of failure was 85000.
Engine. . . Significant noise and vibration when stationary. I was told from the dealership that I would not find this after I drove the vehicle around for awhile; due to being in the garage and moisture. Seed control. . . Sudden loss of power while driving on interstate between 60- 65 mph. When I took the vehicle to the dealership they said they could find nothing wrong, sent a mechanic out to ride with me in the vehicle and explain what had happened I was advised to come back again if it happens again. I said I felt unsafe and felt afraid to drive this vehicle. The dealership had me drive another "same" vehicle and it was just as loud at idle and seemed no better. I left in my vehicle unsure of it's safety and prayed a lot. I do not drive much anyway but limit trips now. I want to be safe. I want a safe vehicle.
While cruising at speeds ranging from 25 to 55 mph, car will suddenly lose power, with rpms decreasing to 1200-1500. Depressing accelerator has no effect for 3-5 seconds, when the car will act normally. A similar problem is noted at random times when accelerating under light throttle from a stop or when applying full power to pass another vehicle on the highway. This presents a dangerous situation when the car cannot be relied upon to perform normally. The problem has not been isolated to any specific environmental or operational conditions. The problem was worse during the first 5,000 miles, but continues less frequently (vehicle has 40,000 miles now). Dealer technicians are unable to locate any faults.
4/29/15 Ford violated their new car warranty coverage, by refusing to repair, the defective components filed in complaint 10713581 . The vehicle has been held hostage at inver grove Ford, agreed to repair all items in the aforementioned complaint #10713581 . As a disabled veteran, with a sick service dog, I have no access or ability to drive an unsafe vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle was at the car wash. On the way to the car wash, the vehicle was jumping forward while he was stopped at a stop sign. Driver continued on to the car wash. As he was pulling forward at the car wash(vehicle was in drive), the vehicle started jerking again and when driver pushed on the brake, the vehicle jerked back on it's own and crushed a brick wall. The vehicle was later deemed a total loss.

Engine died while making a right hand turn onto another street.
Driving in the mountains of kentucky, late morning. I was in the middle lane with the cruise control on, I saw that cars were breaking so I tapped on the brake to release the cruise. My car's ignition shut off.
Car makes a jump when accelerating was told there is a extended coverage on the throttle body and that its possibly the throttle body causing the jult, but Ford will not fix under the extended coverage recall until the engine light comes on.
Vehicle lost power on highway for approx 5-10 seconds, power came back slowly and then happened again a few minutes later for 5-10 seconds. Depressing accelerator had no effect.
Note, this has occurred at varying times/dates since purchase of the vehicle in 2012, has not just occurred at the date listed. When accelerating, the vehicle will have a prolonged hesitation and even a loss in speed when switching via the automatic transmission from 2nd to 3rd gear. This occurs every time the vehicle is driven, not randomly. Also, when getting up to highway speed, there is a hesitation if you touch the gas to accelerate up to the highway speed; it will hesitate a few seconds before kicking into acceleration mode.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 20 mph, the passenger's side engine mount bolt sheared off and caused the to engine to become detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was confirmed that the mount bolt had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 21,600.
When my Escape is in the running mode, the engine does not sounds like a gas running vehicle, but it runs loud like a truck. When pressing the gas I have to press the gas pedal to the floor before moving at a good speed, the transmission slips into gears.

We have a Ford warranty and now I feel we are getting the run around. We have been leaving messages for [xxx] at the Ford motor customer relations dept. We just left a another message and we were told she is out to lunch. My parents have been without a car for over 3 weeks. And to top it all off the Ford store of san leandro- service manager named [xxx]says to just come pick up the vehicle because they do not have the equipment to check for this leak. . I do not want my parents to die in a car with a carbon monoxide leak. If you can help let me this is how Ford treats senior customers. We are in California, it is a 2012 Ford Escape. When driving at highway speeds 55-60 and then coasting coming to a stop, once engine/transmission hits around 35-40. . . Vehicle downshifts extremely hard. . . Called dealership and they said this was normal behavior. . . I've never had a vehicle behave like this and would not consider that normal. .
Purchased the vehicle in Feb 2012. . . Drive it an hr or so 1 way everyday to work. . . In July started to notice it would lag when shifting between gears. . . At start and in between gears. Took it in for service they had it for less then 3 hrs and said their was nothing wrong but reset the transmission computer problem should go away. It got worse took it back 2 wks later for same issue transmission tech drove it with me in the car, found no issue. . . Took it back 3 wks late same issue a different person told me that's not normal they drove it said they couldn't duplicate the issue but Ford says it's normal for a hard shift on a cold start. I will be taking it back now for a 4th time to have it looked at. . . . . . Car hard shifts not just on cold start and if this was the case I would have had this issue from day 1 not 5 months into driving. . . . . . . . This does not feel safe to drive but I am told I have to get used to it. . . . . .
1. While highway cruising at constant speed, engine suddenly dropped to idle speed and vehicle slowed rapidly, until gas pedal was lifted and pressed down again. Engine hesitated and surged. Processed kept repeating at variable intervals. 2. Transmission intermittently hesitates excessively on first to second upshift while engine drops to idle speed. Both problems are intermittent, neither is regular or constant. Dealer says nothing wrong and no fault codes are recorded. Problem #1 is very infrequent . Problem #2 much more common. Both might be related to summer temperatures, especially #1.
Significant engine vibration at idle with car in drive. Engine rpms appear to be too low with load on engine. I see numerous complaints about this issue online, so it is a widespread problem that should be addressed by Ford.
Loses power when accelerating from stop. And at times while you're driving. Have given the car gas to accelerate around a car only for the engine to bog down have taken the car in many many times to the dealership. Throttle body has been replaced twice. Problem still happening. Have gotten Ford involved but still receive no satisfaction. And did not fix the problem.

The contact also noticed that the vehicle would decelerate when driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 500. Vehicle fell on its face while cruise was set at seventy, several mechanics are dumbfounded! !!.
