general problems of the 2014 Ford Escape - part 1

Coolant is leaking and overheats all the time. It has the 1. 6l engine and is being grouped with the 2. 0 engine.

Rear camera intermittently does not work properly. Multiple incidents of the rear camera flickering off and on when in reverse, image is sometimes upside down, or the rear camera doesn't work at all.

Possible powertrain / transmission . - yes available for inspection. - my safety @risk: mine and my child (passenger) - problem confirmed : yes at local mechanic shop and Ford dealer service shop. - has the vehicle been inspected : yes - any warning lights or messages prior to failure: check engine (appeared at time of incident) and “engine fault: service now” - when did the warning appear: after it failed (5/2026) no warning prior to failure. - vehicle attempts from start to find the proper gear (like a bicycle chain that has come off) - clunky - no power from first gear up. No city driving - dangerous to operate.

Last month my engine suddenly got hot and the engine light came on and I got a coolant alert. All my coolant was gone. I refilled it a couple of times and the same thing happened. I took it to get it repaired and this is what was fixed: removed and replaced the engine coolant reservoir hose and the overflow bypass heater hose. He said that my engine cylinder head is leaking oil. I have a pdf of the repair that was done.

My 2014 Ford vehicle the steering wheel began to malfunction, then became worse. I took it to pep boys mechanic, they showed me the recall for this issue. I will include the recall attached. The mechanic told me to call Ford they should fix this problem. I called Ford who said since our VIN no was not indicated on the recall, but same year make and model are, cannot repair due to VIN no not on recall. Then the Ford dealer mechanic recommended I call Ford corporate. I called Ford corporate who advised not covered since the VIN no for this Ford is not in recall, but acknowledged that year make and model is. The recall attached states this recall does not need to be VIN no specific. I told both Ford dealer mechanic and Ford corporate this, and offered to email the recall to them, yet they refused for me to send this. I asked speak to a manager multiple times at Ford corporate and was told one would call back, but no one ever called me back. After multiple calls I finally got a manager on the phone [xxx] who provided me case no xxx and she denied my claim too, since my VIN. No. For vehicle not included in recall. If you read the attached recall my car matches all the criteria for this recall, except the VIN no. As per the recall the steering wheel is a safety hazard, that can cause a crash, as stated in the attached recall. Additionally, the other year I had another issue with the bushing, when I went to park in front a store, but the car kept driving almost ran into the store that had all glass windows. Because I pumped the brake and slammed on the emergency brake it stopped. Had it not stopped would have hurt myself, little daughter in my car, and whomever else was in the store. At the time, this bushing was not on recall. Several months later, I received a notice of this recall. I contacted Ford and provided receipts and they reimbursed me. This vehicle has only been inspected by a mechanic at pep boys who informed us of this recall information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C.

During state inspection at malloy Ford in [xxx] , the technician found the coolant of my 2014 Ford Escape almost empty. No warnings at all on the dashboard, either driving to the dealership or during the inspection. I am concerned about no warnings of a potential coolant leak that may cause a short circuit. Car was manufactured in Ford kentucky assembly plant in 2014. Current mileage is 39539 miles. Have read on NHTSA page similar complaints. Received from consumer reports recall tracker notification # xxx. As of today, I have not received a recall letter from Ford. My reverse camera keeps going blank when reversing or it says contact dealership. My 2015 Lincoln mkc had the safety recall for that camera. I am wondering why my 2014 Ford Escape does not have this same recall? almost wrecked into someone as could not see as there are blind spots. No alert of vehicle behind me.

I have a 2014 Ford Escape 1. 6 engine which was clearly on the recall list for engine coolant failure and my vehicle is showing all the signs I repaired some things changed the hoses and it keeps giving me the high engine light oil is mixing into the reservoir. I have not passed emissions over a year the sensor keeps going off and the electrical system is really bad it creates a lot of static I can't play the radio. Here is the codes for the recalls 17s09-and 17v209000. I am making car payments on this vehicle that I cannot drive I've asked Ford in the past could I just have it serviced for the engine coolant system problem and for the purge valve because I can't pass emission test they refuse to help me saying that my VIN is not coming up as a recall but it's the exact same car that they've recalled in the past 2014 Ford Escape engine 1. 60 I need help!!! this has been going on for weeks with a high engine overheating sensor shutting off the engine stalling me in traffic. This is a safety issue this car belongs to Ford and I think that they should help me get it repaired at a dealership please.

Coolant leak again. Third time having the same issue. Coolant leak issue has been fixed twice within recent years.

Backup camera frequently stops working. It displays a black screen (that sometimes includes a message stating to contact the dealer), stays on the main screen, turns the displayed image upside down, or the image may scroll/flash.

The rear camera has worked intermittently for the last several years. I am aware that the 2015 Ford Escape was included in the recall for rear camera issues, but mine is a 2014 and has the exact same issue.

Coolant leak at the 3 way heater hose going to the heater core. I'm seeing a lot of complaints about leaks at the quick connect and nothing being done about it. Ford made a replacement part thats upgraded. I believe they should be replacing the defected parts with the new one. They knew this was an issue for some time now and refuse to take care of the problem.

For years the rear back up camera has failed to engage or turns on and off intermittently when the vehicle is put in reverse. This can lead to a potentially hazardous driving issue which could lead to property damage or potentially in the extreme loss of life. There are recalls for exactly this same issue on literally millions of similar Ford vehicles, but they refuse to acknowledge this issue and fix it for the 2014 Ford Escape thank you.

Whenever I got the vehicle at the middle of 2025 I had issues with the shocks hub assembly axle motor mount electrical issues trunk was opening and closing by itself. Recent recently I drive it to savannah and the vehicle started to skip and would not switch gears while I was driving down a 70 mph road. I almost wrecked due to an issue with the vehicle I have looked up the recalls that hasn't been repaired on the vehicle and I believe it has something to do with unrepair recalls or maybe there is a recall that wasn't found or reported because I've seen a lot of recall information about the transmission. I also had a incident with the door unlocking and locking while my nephew was in the vehicle after stepping out the doors automatically locked but I still had the driver door open. My nephew freaked out cuz he can't get out the vehicle. The vehicle has some other issues that I do not know how to explain and if there is any possible way that the unrepared recalls has something to do with the repairs that the vehicle need now then I would like something done immediately. There is 19 recalls on a 2014 Ford Escape. Now out of those 19 only two have been reported for my VIN number but I believe due to the car being sold five different times within a short period of time no one had the time to actually report the issues wrong with the vehicle I think people were just trying to get rid of it because they knew something was wrong with it.

Rear view camera quit functioning appropriately on 09/05/25. The dash displayed the message “camera is unavailable. Please contact your dealership. ” since the first incident of the camera not functioning, the camera functions intermittently, more often not functioning. No one other than the vehicle owners have confirmed the camera error.

Rear backup camera is not working. I see 2015 + years were recalled but not 2014 which is my car's model year. Since this is a safety issue it should be repaired.

Backup camera went blank. The screen said camera not available contact dealer. This was about a month ago. It took a week to get an appointment at the dealer to get it checked. I had to replace the camera. It cost almost $900. On several occasions as I backed out there were cars and people I could not see until they were very near to my car. I saw there is a recall for cameras starting with the 2015 models. I think it should be extended to 2014. My car only had 44000 miles on it when the camera went.

While in reverse, my back-up camera usually does not work. I either get a blue screen, a message saying back up camera unavailable, or if it does come on, it is upside down and doesn't stay on but for a few seconds. I have called the dealer, and they will not even look at it unless I pay for this. There are recalls for other years, and I counted over 100 complaints about this issue on the same year as my vehicle. . . I am wondering if people actually have to die for Ford to fix this and issue the dang recall.

The right side rear door latch assembly broke. The rear door will not latch and stay closed.

The back up camera goes out at times. It says report too Ford. Tranmission issues and turbo issues.

The backup camera works only intermittently. I see there are already recalls on the 2015/16 models. 2014 should be included also. I contacted the dealership and Ford customer service and they say I have to pay out of pocket.

My car loses power, I’ll go to get in interstate or just pull out of somewhere and I’ll press the gas and it’ll barely go. I’ve almost got hit multiple times. I take it to have it looked at and all I get is they can’t seem to see the problem but it’s there and extremely dangerous. After talking to several people apparently Ford Escapes are known for this problem yet Ford doesn’t want to acknowledge there faulty parts. I have two small kids and this is dangerous and going to kill people.

The back-up camera works sporadically and when it does work, it remains on for a few seconds when the vehicle is placed in drive and moving forward.

Leaking coolant and heat only blows hot when reving at consistent speed , and ac not blowing cold.

2014 Ford Escape backup camera work intermittently and says it needs repaired. Not under the current and verified with the dealership that it would be over $600. 00 fix possibly. This should be included under the current recall as it seems to be a computer malfunction or a coincidence that it started roughly around the same time that current recall has been in effect. Dangerous after relying on camera for backing up especially when that it one of the features that you look for in purchasing. Ford should not deny that the 2014s should not be included in the recall.

Backup camera displays the view upside down. There is a recall on this for 2015 Escapes, I have the same problem.

Driving along at 60 mph suddenly my car stops going in heavy traffic and won't move,, then it accelerated to high rpms and was stuck, then it hard shifted into gear and it lundged forward fast and went about 5 feet then it wouldn't move. Almost got killed on a busy hwy. Because of it accelerating on its on out into traffic while it was in park, then just came to a dead stop. The only way I can describe is it was not moving in park, then it was like it shifted by itself and lundged forward and stoped like it was slammed into park from a high speed but it did it this on it's own while the shifter was in park. It took off again and I drove it to the side of the hwy, and turned it off. Called and got a friend who has a trailer to come tow me. I cranked my car to see if it would move to get it on the trailer. I slowly drove it up on the ramps and got about half way up, then it stopped wouldn't move again, still in drive it rolled back down the ramps on its own, I was just sitting there and it was idling was like the rpms were higher than normal so I shut it off for a minute. Got back in it cranked it up put it in drive and it wouldn't move, put in in reverse it backed up but it was revved up and shifted hard, so I put it back in park and it spit and spuddered so I shifted to neutral an then car just shifted into drive and took off on it's on and drove up missing the ramps and ran into the back of his trailer, crushing my front end. Then it wouldn't move again. Winched it on the trailer, got home and it drove to get it off the trailer, but I'm terrified to drive it.

Coolant bypass valve issues leading to engine overheating and coolant reservoir cracks and breaking down and needing replacements, multiple.

Transmission failed after only 83k miles. Also needed entire engine rebuilt. Sunroof liner also became loose, as well as backup camera failed.

High engine temperature stop safely error message displayed. Can’t drive sounds awful.

Ford recall 17s09 indicates back up camera malfunction indicating not working. My Ford Escape fits the year make and model, currently having that exact issue with a not working malfunctioning back up camera. Ford refuses to allow my VIN to be included into that recall repair even though it fits the parameters of the recall. Indicating the fault has to come from the NHTSA.

I have been leaking coolant when we looked at it to fix it the o-ring was warped and looked pinched and a piece of the coolant outlet flange was broken off.

I saw that there is a current recall dealing with the cooling system on the Escape. My car has been over heating saying engine fault for the past two months. There now appears to be coolant in the engine.

Rear view camera only operates intermittently. Most of the time it comes up with a message that says camera unavailable, and then goes to a blank screen. I was surprised and disappointed that this vehicle was not included in the massive Ford rear camera recall that was just issued.

1# my fuel system is causing a problem my vehicle will not pass emissions it's been several tries of rejection. It is giving me recall syptoms and I know that this type of vehicle has had fuel issues recalled in the past. The sensors on the car are giving out codes that don't allow me to pass emissions and it's saying something about the( fuel system. ) #2 I am having an issue with the electrical system in the radio it flares up and causes a deafening crackling noise and I have to pull over and turn the car off in order to shut the noise off sometimes the noise starts on its own when you're driving I have shut the car off and exit the vehicle only to hear the crackling noise coming from the electrical system while the car was off, at times I was afraid it would cause an electrical fire! I feel I am having (recall issues )with this vehicle and because it is older the Ford motor company will not allow it to be inspected at one of their shops. I have contacted the better business bureau where the Ford motor company is located in michigan and they still do not want to help me. I cannot drive my car legally because it cannot pass emissions because of the fuel issue. Yes the engine light was on the dash back in November but the codes were cleared and it has not come back on but the vehicle still will not pass emissions. And I feel that Ford motor company does not want to assist me because there's no factory warranty anymore and the vehicle is older but that is not fair to the consumer it is still their vehicle and it is having recall problems even though the VIN# does not show it. I would like your assistance in anything you can help me with with this vehicle I feel so stuck at this point , still financing this SUV. I uploaded a photo of the estimate repair bill over $2000 and the emissions reject paper from 11/24. Vehicles has failed since. Thank you!
