I own Ford Escape 2014 se. I was at my Ford/Lincoln dealership for 6-month maintenance and was informed that all lug nuts of my vehicle are swollen are to be replaced at a cost of $240 + taxes. They told me that I do not have a choice as they won't be able to put tires back. I have never heard of anything like that and trusted the dealership. Frankly, I could not visualize the problem. Upon return, I have researched it and have discovered that high-quality replacement lug nuts on amazon are $20- $40 (a pack of 20). Apparently, instead of solid steel nuts, Ford sells its vehicles with lug nuts that have a steel core with chrome, aluminum, or stainless steel caps attached to improve the appearance of the visible part of the lug nuts. The caps swell, crack, and delaminate to the point where the lug nuts cannot be removed with the lug wrench provided by Ford. This leaves owners and lessees who get flat tires often stranded on the roads without the ability for even tow truck drivers to remove the swollen lug nuts. This means a tow to the shop just to have the lug nuts removed and the tire replaced. I have filed a complaint with Ford, with no luck succeeding, but will be following up with the dealer and filing a complaint with my credit card provider if not successful. There was a class-action lawsuit that was dismissed because there were not significant "enough" and the issue was dismissed.
I was told 6 months ago by the tire & lube place by the Ford dealership (they work with the Ford dealership) that it looked like my coolant tank was possibly cracked, but wasn't a big issue since it still held "enough" anti-freeze. However my engine light ended up coming on later and I found out that it was the coolant sensor that was bad. This is already a recall with the 2014 Escape, but I keep getting told that is "is not for my VIN number!" also, the fuel pump was bad, so I had to replace that at the exact same time. And again, that is already a recall and I am being told "it is not for my VIN number!".
The vehicle started to slow down and became hot quickly. A warning was seen on the dash that vehicle was reducing power. Within a short time (less than a mile) a warning stated: "pull to safety and stop driving". The vehicle has been maintained according to schedule. When I googled similar situations I came upon a recall that listed exactly what took place. Https://media. Ford. Com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2017/03/29/Ford-issues-three-safety-recalls-and-one-safety-compliance-recal. Html my vehicle was manufactured in louisville ky during that the time period listed (July 2014) and has the same engine noted in the article. I believe that my vehicle would have caught fire, it was that hot. After it was towed to a Ford dealer, we were told that the coolant hose and bottle cracked but that it was not covered under this recall. (my VIN was not included) it seems that my car is affected by the recall because of the symptoms of what happened. It was in perfect order before this.
This vehicle should have been included in a 2017 safety recall related to overheating and coolant leaks, but it was not. In February 2019, it overheated with little warning on the freeway, blowing a hole in the motor (at 62k miles). Ford rejected request for assistance, so repair was done by independent mechanic (motor replaced). Three months later, during freeway drive, message appeared several times stating power was being cut to keep engine from overheating (no indication engine actually was overheating). Ultimately, message appeared warning to pull off the road immediately. Overheated engine completely melted a bracket. Mechanic identified a burnt-out sensor but could not say why it happened. I secured two dealership diagnostics. First conducted comprehensive diagnostic and concluded a waste gate was stuck open; no mention of damaged sensor. Second said the degas bottle was cracked and declined to perform pressure test; no mention of damaged sensor or waste gate issue. I cannot afford all these random repairs and in any case, do not feel this car can be put into a safe condition for driving.
Low engine coolant recall no. 17s09 was repaired on April 2, 2019 (mileage on car was (63,179 miles). Begin to get low engine on dash board on September 17, 2019 (68928 miles) took back to beach Ford they said what they did was correct and the hoses are now leaking. In the actual recall from Ford, they were to check these hose and replace all hoses,, as you can see from the paperwork, they did not. They refuse to replace the hoses, but want to charge me over $1,000. 00 to replace. Went to managers still no avail, went to Ford motor complaint they said to bring my complaint to you. Beach Ford is not honoring the actual recall. All recalls have a 10,000 mile warranty and/or one year. None had been meant. Please I need help with this, I don't want something for nothing, but I want my car fixed from a recall that Ford said could cause the gaskets to crack or engine fire. Can you help me with this. This happens whenever the car is driving.
My 2014 Ford Escape, with a 1. 6l gtdi ecoboost engine, built in louisville, ky in March 2014 leaks engine coolant. I purchased this vehicle on June 6, 2014. I have put my VIN into the NHTSA national recall site and it says my car is not recalled. However, Ford safety recall 17s09 supplemental #1, dated December 13, 2017, and NHTSA campaign number 17v209, affecting 230,000 2014 Escapes clearly states that my vehicle, manufactured in March 2014, should be in the recall since it was built in louisville between Feb 13, 2013 and sept 2, 2014, the recall timeline. My car, leaking engine coolant, is exactly that described in Ford safety recall 17s09. In the past 10 weeks or so I have noticed coolant on my garage floor and have filled the coolant reservoir at least 8 times. At one time the heater did not work and the reservoir was nearly empty. I am concerned about the possibility of an overheated engine causing the cylinder to crack and spew oil resulting in a possible engine fire. I currently have approximately 39,000 miles on this vehicle. If this vehicle VIN is not recalled, I certainly would like a detailed answer why it is not since it meets all the parameters of safety recall 17s09 supplemental #1 and NHTSA campaign number 17v209. Thank you.
While driving at times we can smell fumes from the engine. It is very strong. It will start and then stop after a while. The smell is strong with carbon. It makes us sick and nauseous. We have had to roll the windows down and pull over at times. So far this has happened only while driving. We can be on a residential street or driving down a highway with the cruse control on and it will happen. We have treated this car well and only had an authorized dealer perform maintenance, with the exception of changing the wipers. This is not the first time we have has issues with this car (we bought this new). We have had the dealership replace a defective break drum (less than 2k miles), a defective track that moves the electric seat and a faulty exterior door latch. Could not change the back wiper blade had to take it in (was told by the service center they had issues in the beginning figuring it out also). Now the smell issue had made this a bad experience. If it just was a bad smell that would be one issue, however this is toxic and makes both of us nauseous. This should really needs to be dealt with soon before someone gets light headed from the smell and has an accident.
On 13 August 2018 my fiance was driving to our new home we're buying when smoke started coming out of the engine compartment. I told her to pull over and grab her purse and get away from the vehicle. By now flames were coming from the engine compartment. Luckily she had cracked open the door before stopping because before she stopped all the doors automatically locked and could not be opened. I had arrived at the scene and the cars front end had virtually melted within 5 minutes. If my fiance had not cracked opened the door she most assuredly would have burned to death. If I had been driving I would definitely have had a difficult time escaping as I am a disabled veteran with several mobility problems. Our car was less than 4 years old with only 64000 miles on it. We never expected we might possibly be injured or die from a newer vehicle. I really hope that Ford motor company wasn't aware of this issue as we never received any notice of any problems whatsoever with this vehicle.
2014 Ford Escape 4x2 overflow coolant tank causing coolant to leak. 230,000 cars have been repaired by Ford but they will not repair mine without a $230+cost. For some unknown reason my serial number is not covered. Lack of coolant leads to overheating and cracked head gasket. The car did reduce power and sound a pull over immediately warning on 2 occasions. The car has 55,000 miles.
I purchased this vehicle new and noticed the bad smell/fumes 5 months later during a road trip. I thought the smell was due to new vehicle. I only notice the smell during hard acceleration, especially when passing on and entering major highways, a strong smell comes through the vents and under the steering column. The smell is like burnt plastic or rubber. It gives me a headache at times. I've taken it to the dealer on several occasions; first it was thought to be the cabin filter needed changing after 10 months of buying the SUV new, then it was thought to be clogged air vents which was false, then it was the air freshener that caused it to smell which I removed, and recently I took it to the dealer twice and they had no idea where the smell was coming from, even though the service adviser and mechanic witness the smell/fume. I checked several web sites and discovered other owners of 2014 Ford Escape are experiencing the same problem. I drive with the window cracked because I'm concerned about my health and my family. This is a very serious issue.
Roof leaks on both sides of vehicle cause water stained/wet headliner above windshield pillers. Took to dealer, they claimed they resealed roof rack, and cleaned headliner. Not even 2 weeks later paasenger side headliner is wet again. Contacted dealer and Ford it is worse this time than it was the first time. Apparently my Escape isn't the only one with this issue after visiting several forum's. When vehicle is in motion I can hear water dripping if its is raining or if there is a heavy dew.
**this incident involves the panoramic roof glass/window spontaneously bursting at highway speeds. ** my family and I were driving at highway speeds when suddenly we heard a very loud explosion. It startled my husband, he almost lost control of the vehicle because the vehicle swerved as a result of having the roof torn open at highway speeds. This incident could cause a severe, life-threatening injury. We pulled over to the side of the road. We saw that the glass had burst almost completely, leaving only approximately 1. 5" margins of shattered glass around the edges. The rubber bond that seals the glass on all four sides to the roof of the vehicle bent to the point where it was flailing about on the highway. The shattered pieces of glass chipped/scratched/damaged the roof rack, rear panoramic roof glass (the panoramic roof on the this Escape is comprised of two glasses, one in the front that slides opened and closed, and the rear one that remains stationary) and the roof of the vehicle. Absolutely nothing impacted the vehicle to cause this damage. This incident is not a result of misuse or abuse. It is absolutely a defective component that Ford motor company has not been responsible for. Whilst on the side of the road, we contacted our Ford dealership. They told us to send pictures. We did and they sent them to Ford corporate for approval. They answered that since they can't see the defective component in the pictures, they can assume something impacted the glass and therefore the incident does not qualify for warranty service. I was quoted that the repairs could cost approximately $1500usd. I have documentation and pictures of the incident that I would be more than happy to share if deemed helpful to make my case. This is an issue that has affected many Escape owners. There was even a recall in 2014 regarding issues with the panel of the panoramic roof.
While driving done the road, a loud pop was heard. My 3 year old poined to the panoramic sunroof and said look. It had fallen inward on the back of the glass while the front of the glass stayed attached, cracking the glass. Pieces of glass fell into the back seat and all in my sons lap. Ford has had recalls on certain VIN numbers but not mine, epoxy being mixed incorrectly causing glass to become separated.
On February 3, 2014 while driving on I-95 a stone flew up off the road and cracked the windshield. Had the windshield repaired by safelite. On March 12, 2014 the same thing happened a second time on a different stretch of I-95. Had safelite repair the windshield. This morning April 6, 2014 again on I-95 and the windshield got cracked for a third time. Have driven for 53 years with only one cracked windshield previously and have had three within 62 days!!! greatly concerned that anything larger than a small pebble may cause the entire windshield to disintegrate while driving at 70 mph on the interstate. Will take to Ford dealer tomorrow or Tuesday for them to examine.
