95 problems related to other fuel system have been reported for the 2014 Ford Escape. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2014 Ford Escape based on all problems reported for the 2014 Escape.
A common issue on these Ford Escapes (mine is a 2014) are the canister purge valve sticks open , causing the fuels vapors to enter engine while fueling. This essentially floods the engine when fueling. It also throws a check engine light and runs lean. I have seen hundreds of issues which the Ford Escapes and nothing has been done about it . This should be covered under the emissions defect warranty but the part is not listed. The weird part is this same exact issue is listed under numerous recalls for different models such as the Ford focus. I have no idea why Ford is not acknowledging this issue on the Escape ,especially on the 1. 6 ecoboost engine - which is a pain to change the canister purge valve. Hopefully Ford fixes this and sends recalls to everyone affected.
2014 Ford Escape titanium taken in for every recall, and maintained. While driving on a 3 lane road going 40 mph the windshield wipers went on full speed (not raining) and would not/could not turn them off. After about 5 minutes they went down to slow speed. Then the car lost power, no steering or brakes. No way to stop or steer the car. It slowed and finally came to a clunky stop. Flames were coming out of the bottom of the car onto the road at that time. Within 1-2 minutes the flames were coming from the top of the engine, up and over the hood onto the top and over the car completely.
Lights come on for engine and gas pump while in motion throws vehicle to right at 55 mph when gas light comes one says empty all the time does at stops too slams into next gear shaking car badly with a bang it does often enough at 1/2 tank only or below but does not read more than 1/8 tank from full when filling up at pump all the time.
It happens while driving slow the car stalls suddenly. I have to re-start the car.
Car stalls when driving at low speeds.
Car dash board electrical wiring has gone bad. Originally the information on screen was fading and after about a month no longer shows any information. Ford stated the entire panel would need to be replaced, involving re-reading engine mileage and programming keys again for $700. Did not get that fixed as it's not a necessity. Driver window motor failed without warning while driving with the windows up. Now the engine has been reading a turbo issue but it cannot be determined if it's the actual turbo boost or the waste gate. This lead to transmission skipping and ultimately stalling while driving on highway and then city roads and having to restart car several times to make it home and then towed the car to local mechanic shop who stated transmission needs to be replaced for $4500. Along with a fuel line issue that had already been repaired 2 years prior and again unable to confirm why the turbo sensor code is popping up. Car is used for typical daily driving with children and should not have these issues. There are recalls for this make/year but not on my specific VIN though they are similar issues. The cost to repair the vehicle is more than it is worth and I'm very unsatisfied with the longevity of it. I did get the recall for my doors done after one day driving and a back door opened on its own, come to find out they still need to replace the other doors.
My 2014 Ford Escape stalled while driving. I had just gotten off the interstate when the interior lights went on and the voice activated system stated "you are not in park" I was able to pull over. Restart the SUV and drive home. I was lucky because I had just gotten off the interstate. . . . . And was doing 25mph! if it happened on the interstate I probably wouldn't be here right now!.
Blown head gasket.
2014 Ford Escape with 88k miles experienced amber and then red service transmission light in less than 12 hour period. While driving the car transmission would no longer shift gears, causing a hazardous situation at highway speeds. Engine rpm would race close to maximum and car would not maintain speed. Driver shifted to neutral and moved to the side of the road. Ford obviously knows they have a problem with this transmission. Ford has extended the warranty on cars with similar transmission, but not on the Escape. Transmission repair shop lot and overflow lot was full of Ford Escapes that needed to have the transmission rebuilt. Many Escapes had been waiting for weeks as the owners don't have the $3200-3400 needed to repair.
Service engine light came on. The code is 19s22.
Transmission is failing. I'm literally waiting for it to drop dead. When driving, the vehicle has multiple hard shifts into different gears. This occurs no matter what gear it goes too. The power acts like it wants to give up and rocks the car back and forth while accelerating and shifting gears. Sometimes the shift doesn't even occur. Move the prndl lever too fast from any setting, the car makes a loud jerking noise. Also when parking on any hill with the e-brake on, the car makes a very loud noise sounding like the brakes are going to giveaway and the car moves. Its barely noticeable, but I sat in the car to test it , and while sitting in the car you could totally tell it moved. It does this 3 times minimum when parked.
Over the past few months my car has started to loose power and cut off randomly. I was out on December 26, 2019 and my vehicle cut off 4 times. Luckily I was not in heavy traffic so I did not get into an accident. I have to restart the car each time. When I called Ford motor company on December 23, 2019 to report what was happening, I was told I would have to pay $125 for a diagnostic to be ran on the vehicle and would be responsible for applicable repairs due to their being no open recalls regarding gas pressure. This alone makes the vehicle unsafe to drive on the highway.
I took my car to a Ford dealship to for a recall. The recall was 17s09, a coolant level sensor installation. When I picked my vehicle up and drove it home, the next day my check engine light came on, so I brought it back. They then replaced a leaking coolant line to degas bottle. A few days later I turned on my vehicle to go somewhere and before even leaving my block, my check engine light came on again and instantly started over heating. I was luckily down the street from my home so I managed to get it back to my house, but I was afraid to drive it so I had it towed to the dealership for a third time. They didn't make any notes on that visit so I'm not sure what happened but when I picked it up they stated I needed to pay for services because they noticed a leak in my heater hose and the service was going to cost over $3000! my car was perfectly fine before taking it in for a recall. I wish I would have never brought it in because when I tried to make a complaint about how my car was serviced and what they did to it, I had no luck getting any help or assistance but I know the recall put my car in a worser condition. My vehicle had never over heated before and a few days after getting this recall it over heated as soon as I turned it on.
My car was first sputtering when turning it on then the engine light came on. Then it got harder to start when turning it on and was running rough. It was the vacuum purge valve. I had it replaced. Now I have 112,000 miles on my car now and the same thing happened after having it replaced. The code is p1450. There are recalls on the same year and engine 4 cylinder, 2. 0 turbo, Ford focus but not showing as a recall for the 2014 Escape. Many people have the same problem in this make and year model of Escape. There is obviously a problem to cause it twice.
While car is in motion our 2014 Ford Escape stalls. We turn the key off, turn it back in and it will sometimes run for a bit before stalling again and sometimes stall immediately. Currently this has happened on city streets and parking lots. Once while turning. Others going straight. Luckily we have not had this happen on the interstate yet.
Car will hesitate and engine will die.
The vehicle intermentantly will stall instantly like it runs out of gas and than you pullover stop and put it in park and it starts right up, I took it to a mechanic and they cannot find anything wrong with it! I seen there were recalls for 2014 Ford Escapes with this problem of just stalling for no reason with a couple different remedies repaired by Ford and I called Ford motor company and they said my VIN did not match for the recall. I don't understand why, if I have the exact year Escape the recall was for why they will not repair or replace the part the recall states is the problem. Do you have to have a accident/injuries or death due to this problem before they will do anything?.
After starting ignition and car idols/driven heavy gas/emissions smell fills cabin when using heat/a/c or defrost systems. Engine light sometimes goes on. Car has 35,100 mi. Took car to queens NY Ford service center 4 hours later $400 later, changed cabin filter and sprayed fragrance on it. Told must use cabin recycle air function. Ford owners manual doesnt say must use and in no other car have had to must use this function. I have a case# cas24667125 and appt for 11/6/19. Ford built this car tech's should know how to fix this!.
Driving down the street went to turn to the left and the power steering went out jumped the curb almost hit a family with a baby and apparently here's the artical of 914,000 recalls. . Read more...
Upon beginning. To move forward (pulling into traffic) the engine will sometimes stall(cut off) . Other times it will begin to run very rough sometimes causing ithe engine to stall. Although this vehicle does not seem to be part of recall # 14s30 or #14s20 the conditions are very similar to these reports.
This vehicle should have been included in a 2017 safety recall related to overheating and coolant leaks, but it was not. In February 2019, it overheated with little warning on the freeway, blowing a hole in the motor (at 62k miles). Ford rejected request for assistance, so repair was done by independent mechanic (motor replaced). Three months later, during freeway drive, message appeared several times stating power was being cut to keep engine from overheating (no indication engine actually was overheating). Ultimately, message appeared warning to pull off the road immediately. Overheated engine completely melted a bracket. Mechanic identified a burnt-out sensor but could not say why it happened. I secured two dealership diagnostics. First conducted comprehensive diagnostic and concluded a waste gate was stuck open; no mention of damaged sensor. Second said the degas bottle was cracked and declined to perform pressure test; no mention of damaged sensor or waste gate issue. I cannot afford all these random repairs and in any case, do not feel this car can be put into a safe condition for driving.
The car's engine will cut off, lights and electricity will stay on, but the engine will cut out while driving. Acceleration is lost, and cannot start moving again until the car is put in park, turned off, and turned back on. This is while the car is in motion. This has happened at 30 mph and slower, as well as 55 mph. The car will give an engine fault or engine failure and begin jerking. This happens on the highway and city streets. The most recent time, the car began jerking after turning and could not stay on for longer than 10 seconds before shutting off. This has happened at least 6-10 times, and almost caused car accidents. Multiple parts have been replaced, and the issue still happens.
I recently went in for my first emissions test on my vehicle to find out that the fuel vapor management valve leaked. I had noticed, prior to learning this, that after fueling I would often smell of gas from inside the vehicle and have become concerned that the failure of this system may have exposed me to harmful vapors while operating my vehicle, especially considering the other safety issues I have experienced with this vehicle.
A week after purchasing 2/21/2017. The Escape starting running hot then it shut down the car acceleration . Took it back because it under the factory warranty, they said the head gasket were blown and leaking coolant into the engine. Mind you it only ran hot for one minute. They repaired it. A year later in February before my birthday 2/26- I say 2/19. The transmission went out, they repaired that. A recall on own coolant valve was fixed by dealer. Now in the beginning of March the water pump and engine problem has come back. If fill this model of 2014 Ford Escape is a lemon and I should be compensated for all my inconvenience. It been nothing but a money drain and the dealership is robbing me. I took it up there to see if they could repair the problem, but they said my warranty has expired. The told me the water pump needed to be fix and it will cost $1,300 and that I have to pay that before the can look at head gasket. To much to pay and there charging a service fee which is ok but the never said anything about a storage fee. I had a trip schedule for dominican republic. She told me they left a message days after but never received it. I asked if they can wave the storage fee and I'll pay the rest but was told they can't do so. I asked to speak with the manager and was told he won't be back until Monday and it Friday. Called corporate they were no help at all. Ford motor company is the worst car company and they do not help there customers. Poor customer service and no solution to a problem that they no this car is known for. I'll be taking legal action in a civil suit against Ford. Thank you for listening and if anyone has a solution please contact me. Thank you. ( I will never think Ford first- your last). They want $160. 00 for storage.
Does not get advertised fuel efficiency. Fuel efficiency is much lower at around 22 mpg combined. Very disappointed.
The engine stalls momentarily when I try to start up after turning a corner, or when I slow down and try to accelerate again. I have tried buying higher grade gas and used extra cleaning fluids recommended. Neither helped. It is frightening to press the accelerator and nothing happens immediately. This happens in city driving.
On Jan 29th driving down the street and out of know where car starts stalling and then smoke and then the 💡 came on saying engine overheating. . . . . I left up the hood the container filled . . . . . Parked car and never got back in smoke was pouring out of the hood. . . . In the middle if harbson and argamino. . . . . Mr my daughter 1month old grandson and neice. . . . The most scariest thing ever in my life. . . .
My car lost power in the middle of road going 40 mph. Almost got rear ended. Accelerator to floor. No rpms. Has happened 6 times now. It is at dealer. They are taking apart transmission. A very dangerous car I no longer want.
I am sure need be checked by technician.
Car experiences total loss of acceleration while driving. This happened on highway at 40 mph. Car behind us almost slammed into us.
When I put gas in the car the whole car starts to shake when I turn it back on . . . . I can also hear the gas pump humming.
I have to put all most trip the amount of gas in my car I didn't use the much before it seems that the gas is leaving my car with out me driving it.
Fuel shutoff value.
Three separate stalling without warning events while car is in motion (!) in the past week, similar to many others described on this website. Ase mechanics cannot identify any reason for it; made me aware of related recalls but could not confirm cause. Why is my vehicle not covered by the multiple fuel system recalls for other 2014 Escapes? those recall numbers are: 14s30, 15s13, 14s20, 14s17. Car is only four years old with 56,000 miles on it and is well maintained. Ford corporate advises to contact dealer; dealers advise to call Ford corporate. No help for a very dangerous problem. Please implore Ford to expand these recalls to cover affected vehicles.
Truck stalls while driving, and won't start back up. Ive had it towed twice already for the same problem also had it towed to a mechanic shop where they couldn't find anything wrong with it besides saying it seemed to be a gltch inside the computer. Check engine light illuminates reading code p0109. When it stalls it gives no warning and no indications that there's a problem which can lead to a dangerous situation.
