The contact owns a 2016 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 25 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle failed to respond. The oil warning light was illuminated with an abnormally loud whirring sound. The contact then turned off and restarted the vehicle and the vehicle started working properly. On another occasion while driving into school parking lot, the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard and the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The contact struck the curve and the vehicle drove onto the grass and came to a stop. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with internal gear failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 148,611.
With no warnings the automatic transmission went into like limp mode. Shifted hard then no acceleration when pressing on gas. Faulty transmission light came on. I bought extended warranty when I purchased this car in 2020 from dealer. The warranty expired in August 2024. The transmission tore up in oct. 2024. Took it to transmission guy who put it on code reader. 3 codes came up and he said it was bad. I bought the car at 55,000 miles and it tore up at 104,000 miles. Don't know if dealer ever changed fluid before I bought it but they never said anything to me about changing the transmission fluid. Transmission guy told me the filter was internal and couldn't be changed. The dealer said fluid should be changed around 50 to 60,000 miles and I guess they didn't do it. I went to them for 4 years for servicing and they never mentioned it to me. I lost my husband in 2021 so I was uneducated on things of that nature. I feel Ford should have to fix it or compensate for it.
65,000 miles, coolant intrusion into #1 cylinder confirmed by Ford service center. First signs were check engine light, rough idle. Replaced all spark plugs and coils. Check engine light returned the following day with loss of coolant in tank. Engine runs rough and overheats with coolant loss and continued intrusion into engine, endangering occupants.
Transmission abruptly failed on train tracks no warning nothing.
Transmission suddenly loosing power without any signs on highway , car has only 93k miles , at highway speed I lost all power without warnings .
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, the transmission shifted gear independently with the "shift to park" message displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 121,312.
I was driving on a highway. All of a sudden the transmission fail light came on and my vehicle almost came to a complete stop. I no warning. I was scared to death!!!! I see I am not the only one. I see several similar reports online.
My car overheated when I pulled over I noticed my engine coolant low. I had a mechanic add more fluids then a day later car shuts off why I was going 65 on a highway . I was pushing down on the gas peddle but my car would not go. It was barely moving no matter how far I pushed gas peddle. I finally found a somewhat area to pull over . I almost died or was seriously injuried in a few close call accidents this day. Had someone look at it from a garage in town he said it was a fuse and a cylinder misfire. No engine light no issues then my car over heated again no warning just shut down but the car still on emmy lights didn’t work my turn signals didn’t work . Then my car stopped dead in a busy roadway over heated smoking . Now I’m time I need an engine replacement let me add my car only has 60000 miles on it and is in great maintained condition I am a single mother of 3 young kids and take care of my mom. Not employed due to a bad relationship and trying to get back on my feet and now this . Coolest leaks into cylinder causing over heating and catastrophic engine damage , so upset over this and Ford won’t even diagnose my car with out a 200 dollar charge to start with . It’s pathetic.

The car was running fine, but check engine light came on. Took it to the dealer to have it checked out. They told me there is coolant intrusion into engine cylinder 2 (I think number 2) and the engine needs to be replaced. Apparently this is a known issue that can lead to overheating, “catastrophic” engine failures and potential engine fires. They quoted me roughly ten thousand dollars to have it replaced. I told them it was still running fine. They said I could maybe keep driving it but there is no way to know what will happen and when but it needs to be replaced. I am only now seeing page after page of consumer complaints regarding the same issue.
Transmission failure. Had to have the transmission repaired at 132,000 miles. Had idle issues and inconsistent speed while driving on the road, constant jerking causing me to lose speed while driving. Check engine light illumination was on but this is not always a tell-tell sign of the transmission failure in these vehicles.
Transmission, currently available for inspection. Vehicle stalled in traffic. Yes, confirmed by dealership no other inspections on occasion it did seem to stay in low gear too long. Dash message said transmission fault on September 10, 2024 but no other warnings prior. While driving "transmission fault" displayed on dash after revving up, gearing down, and apparently shifting into neutral while driving causing it to stall in traffic. It was towed to dealership and diagnostics showed a transmission replacement was needed but the cost was book value of the vehicle, $9100+. Vehicle has 111,000 miles.
Vechile showing transmission not in park.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Escape. The contact stated while operating the vehicle, the message "service transmission" was intermittently displayed. The vehicle flashed to move it to park, which I did and then the vehicle proceeded to die in the middle of a busy intersection. My children were in the vehicle on an incredibly hot day, surrounded by lots of traffic, making it incredibly dangerous for us. I had my vehicle towed to my home, where my husband, who is a mechanic, was able to figure out that the 50 amp fuse in the fuse box had blown, but it never registered on the scanner, that the fuse was the issue. He changed the fuse, thus fixing the issue. I would just like other owners of this type of vehicle to know, that hopefully this could also be their issue, and a simple fix.
Transmission needs to be replaced as it went bad. Getting done 7/15/24 for a cost of $7,041. Only 68,000 miles on the car and just out of warranty. These need to be recalled and or owners be reimbursed for costs related to replacement and/or rebuilding.
The car completely died at a busy intersection with no previous issues. Ford states I need a new transmission.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
I recently purchased a 2016 Ford Escape with a 6f35 transmission in it. I have been experiencing hard shifts out of the transmission. This is a current on going problem with many users of this vehicle with this transmission. The valve body fails causing the harsh shifts, soft shifts, and shift flares which leads to catastrophic failure. Please issue a recall of this as it’s a defect in the development of this transmission.

I have 2 Ford Escapes a 2015 and a 2016 (2016 referenced in this complaint) both have experienced catastrophic transmission failure within weeks of each other. The transmission would slip and hard shift, eventually disable completely and would indicate the transmission needed to be serviced.
The car started revving without any warning lights while I was on the highway 635 which caused the car to suddenly lose speed and despite every effort I put into getting it to move putting my life and that of other road users at risk. The car would revv jerk forward and then decline in speed. The "transmission fault" warning indicators only came on much later. This led me to conduct research and discover that a lot of other drivers have had the same issue with the same car model. I took it to towneast Ford and they confirmed the transmission was slipping. I have since taken it to two independent repair companies who ran diagnostic tests on it and confirmed that the transmission was completely faulty. A general search on google has shown to me that this is a very common issue with the 2016 Ford Escape costing users an unbelievable amount of money in repair costs.

While driving the vehicle car came out of gear and the tachometer revved. I had to pull the car off the side of the road shut the car down and then restart it and it then was able to go into gear but for only a short time maybe a minute or two. No lights appeared on the dash. Luckily I was on a residential street and not a highway where my life definitely could've been put at risk. Car was towed to a Ford dealer and they stated complete transmission failure. Car has 85,xxx miles on it.

Driving the car with no signs at all, car instantly drops rpm’s and won’t accelerate at a busy intersection. Warning for transmission faulty or engine issues did not come on at all. Car was driving normal and then stopped as clutch started slipping. Confirmed with dealership that transmission is out. The car stopped in traffic.
This wasn’t an accident. Over christmas weekend, my vehicle’s transmission would no longer shift gears correctly. After being told I was looking at thousands of dollars to repair, I decided to sell it. When I listed it on autotrader, I discovered a recall from 2022 for exactly the part of my transmission that might be broken. If Ford was supposed to notify me of this in 2022, they certainly did not. So now here I am with a vehicle that doesn’t move.
When driving the car at interstate speeds the transmission overheats after just a few minutes. When this happens it triggers the car’s information system to send a message stating “transmission fault service engine now. ” just a moment or two later it sends another message stating “speeds reduced to lower engine temperature. ” once that message is received you no longer have any throttle control and speed will continue to decline, speed dropped from 70 mph to 30 is maybe an minute, until you pull over and let the transmission cool down. This is especially hazardous on the interstate if your in faster moving traffic with cars behind you and you can no longer accelerate with no way to signal this to the traffic behind you except the four ways. The problem seems to be the fan to cool the transmission never gets the signal to turn on and cool down the transmission. This is an ongoing issue with this vehicle and has been since I got it, there are also multiple site and forums full of this same year make and model having the same issue.
The transmission suddenly failed with no warning. 2016 under $90k miles. Mechanic saying very abnormal and was because a small piece inside broke that is manufacturer error.
