2016 Ford Escape. Consumer writes in regard to transmission failure.
Transmission failure.
Transmission failure warning came up on dash. I saw the rpms go up to over 120. I had no previous problems with the car before this incident. Car rapidly lost acceleration while driving 60mph on state road 80 in labelle FL. Since the car lost acceleration so fast the car behind me had to pass quickly as to not hit me. Other cars behind had to continually pass until I could move from the left lane to the right, and then to the shoulder to safely pull off the road. I had to wait there with the car for over an hour before aaa came to tow it. Mechanic at aamco transmission total care in bonita springs, FL identified a burned drum. He showed me grooves in it that should not have been there, it should have been smooth. Computer scan gave codes p0219 engine overspeed condition, p0729 incorrect gear ratio 6th, p07aa trans friction element e. I have the drum and other parts that had to be replaced. The repair took 6 weeks as the torque converter was on backorder from Ford. This repair was $4047. 00.
Transmission failed at 70,000 miles, will not go in drive or reverse, all of a sudden.
As I was driving down the road I noticed I wasn't accelerating; as I tried to press on the accelerator the rpms would increase, but the vehicle would not speed up. I pulled off the to a side road, stopped the car, put it in park and then back into drive and had no change in ability to accelerate. I tried turning it off and back on. As I then tried to get the car back home (thankfully I wasn't far) I had to put it in low gear and could only go 10-15 mph. The transmission failure light came up at this point. After trying to let the vehicle cool down, there was no change. I had the vehicle repaired at a transmission shop; costing $4,100; the transmission mechanic couldn't tell me exactly what went wrong other than it had overheated in the transmission and there was a lot of internal damage. I am still struggling with issues with accelerating when the vehicle is cold. The vehicle is sluggish and shifts very hard when it is cold. The mechanic is looking into it again.
My 2016 Ford Escape had a total transmission failure without warning while I was driving on a city street, approx. Going 45 to 50 mph. The transmission went out of gear and lost power. The transmission would stall and then suddenly go into gear without warning causing my Escape to jerk forward. I parked my Escape and had it towed to a repair shop. I was told by the repair shop that the transmission was "burned up" and had to be replaced. I had a rebuilt transmission in my Escape, costing me $3,700 in repairs.
Transmission failed with no warning. Driving home one day, getting off the highway, the car had a delay in accelerating and would then suddenly lurch forward. Tried to make it home with the car, eventually a "transmission fault" message came up. Now car is sitting in my driveway, only 4 years old and I can't use it to work or anything, we barely got home. I've read that a lot of people are having this issue who and what is being done to resolve or to mandate a recall?.
The transmission failed in August 2019. We replaced it with a Ford transmission and now (July 2020) it needs repair again. The serial number on the replacement transmission is 5136077.
My car stopped while driving on a side street. Autonation Ford claimed there was a malfunction which led to the transmission failure. They wanted $7k to repair. I took it elsewhere for repair and within 1 week after repair the car engine caught on fire while driving. I had been on the interstate but had just exited to a nearby residential area. The entire front of the car was melted. The car is totaled and has been turned over to my insurance company, allstate.
Transmission failed on my 2016. It's not even 5 years old. No warning of issues. My vehicle is regularly has oil changes. It just stop on me and would move forward.

A recent incident with my vehicle, a 2016 Ford Escape se awd, has left me unhappy and disappointed in Ford motor company. Since I started driving in 1984 I have always bought and owned a Ford product. I have had no reason to question the quality of Ford products until now. The Escape had to be towed into the nearest Ford dealership, champion Ford edinboro, PA. Upon inspection of my vehicle the service manager indicated an inner seal within the transmission had failed. This resulted in transmission fluid entering all areas of the transmission an essential ruining the unit. The services manager's recommendation was replacement of the transmission. This was done with the purchase of a new transmission and the vehicle was returned to me on February 27, 2019. My first disappointment was the transmission of a 2016 Escape failing in little over three years since purchase (October 2015). The second disappoint was the failure of the transmission just after the warranty expired. My Escape had a 5-year/60,000-mile warranty on the powertrain. At the time of the failure I had driven my Escape 72,000 miles. Therefore, I was left with a $6232. 67 repair bill on a vehicle I had hope to last me seven to ten years. At this point I will need to keep this vehicle another two or three years. When I do begin looking for another new car, I now believe I need to start looking at our manufacturer products. I would like to believe Ford motor company would honor their products better that I have seen in this experience. If the company does step up and provide some re-compensation for my difficulties, I would be willing to re-think my loyalties to this brand. Joel fair p. O.
