Blind Spot Detection Problems of Ford Escape - part 2

Engine check engine came on and found coolant low, refilled, and 2 weeks later coolant low again. I suspected coolant leaking into the engine since no coolant on the ground. Dealership confirmed this and said new engine block is required. It is a 2017 Escape with only 33,000 miles now. It is ridiculous that Ford knowingly went into production with this bad engine design which they redesigned later. I found out that there was a TSB to replace the engine block. Ford knows the engine is an issue and only fixed some of the vehicles as the issue happens. However, my SUV has no warranty and I was told engine replacement is not covered. This poses a risk to my daughter with the possibility of engine fire if coolant burns out, not to mention hesitation at lights while turning that can cause an accident. SUV is available for your inspection. I feel Ford issued a TSB to prevent a recall so they do not have to address problem with all the vehicle. Nhtsa should force this recall or force Ford to expand TSB to all affected vehicles with no limit. Communication with Ford dealership and Ford customer relations is available.

I order a nav upgrade from Ford $299, was unable to install it Ford said go to dealer, car was going to dealer for abs sensor bad and vehicle collision sensor bad, dealer fixed other two problems but couldnt upgrade nav and while dealer tried they killed the whole radio/sync/nav/handsfree turn the touch screen black and unresponsive. Now they want $1000 plus for apim replacement. I could live without the navigation update but now Ford's sync update killed my apim/sync/radio/handsfree and I cannot live without that.

My main car display is dying and it’s also my way into the car, diagnostic reporting and navigation. Navigating is harder with out main display freezing or not working at all. Also my blind spot sensor goes off at random times in which nobody had a answer for me on a fix for that.

Today- 5/22/2023 - Ford dealer attempted to perform sync3 software update from version 1 to version 3 as promoted and advertised by Ford motor CO. This was performed by dealer after personal attempts at WI-fi and flash drive update processes failed. Following dealer attempted sync 3 update, no update could be accomplished and the synch 3 system is now not active- no radio, bluetooth( hands free phone usage), no rear camera or safety alarm for potential obstacles when backing up. I was informed the issue is a common result due to defective apim module. Yet Ford promotes/ provides the software updates ( free) thru their website/ dealers. I have filed a claim with Ford today and initially told there is nothing they can do, but I can purchase a new apim module ($750) and have it installed ($300) that may correct this.

Steering assist fault sensor comes on which creates total loss of control of the wheel when driving placing anyone utilizing the road in danger as steering is not possible. Has occurred over 25 times. This was part of a recall and has been removed from being a recall now. Warning sensors go off randomly in the car all of the time and are inaccurate creating distractive driving for youth and has created dangerous situations. Dmv citation during driving test regarding the sensor malfunctions. Back-up camara broken, and trunk will not open or close in weather below 40 preventing use in late fall winter early spring.

Reoccurring simultaneous failures of safety systems "cross traffic system fault ", "blind spot system fault", complete climate panel failure (defroster, heater, ventilation, . . . ), accompanying failures of power windows, power seats and most recently the ability to open the rear hatch of the SUV. Warnings about intermitent "drive mode not available". All of the above can occur suddenly when driving or at starting. Windows fog suddenly.

Windows operating intermittently. Repeatedly the dashboard flashes "cross traffic system fault", "blind spot system fault", "blind spot left/right sensor fault" occasionally "cannot access memory while driving". The lower center display panel on the instrument panel goes completely black, and one cannot operate the defroster or air conditioner. The problem occurs intermittently, but when it starts it is more or less continuous for long periods of time. Ford (demontrond Ford) has now worked on the problem at least seven times, but safety issues do not stay fixed. Date below is when most recent series of issues occurred.

Passenger mirror blind spot indicator randomly comes on. Just purchased, so I have not taken the vehicle to the Ford dealership. The driver side functions properly.

1. Brakes been going on since we bought it new had in shop number of times still no fix but when we try to stop there is a surge at the end and makes us go still for a bit different length each time . . . 2. The blind spots will go on when nothing there.

Light turns on when there is no car next to me. Took it in to Ford. They ran diagnostic but where not able to find an issue and returned the car. It is still turning on when there is no car next to me.

Passenger side blind spot warning idicator in mirror come on when no other vehicle is present. At other times, indicator does not come on at all, even if a vehicle is present in the blind spot. This is a safety issue. Indicator cannot be trusted. Many owners report this same problem on forums. Ford has no solution.

Blind spot warning system will activate when there are no cars around the car. Happens regularly when going straight at consistent speed, accelerating, driving around a bend; any and all situations. False positives occur during rain, dry weather, all lighting conditions (night, early morning, noon, late afternoon).

Defective rearview camera. Came upside down and go blank or distorted. Safety hazard.

I was permanently disabled from military service so they made me purchase a very expensive warranty and because I couldn’t work my credit had suffered while waiting on my va and ss. That cost me 18% interest, but we had no vehicle as we had to give it back while recovering from 8 surgeries . Never missed a payment but I think I know why the bank made me pay $1800 for the warranty in cash. Less than a month both drive shafts had to be replaced. $400 out of pocket. Then Ford said I had a leak and replaced a gasket, which triggered a Ford mandated replacement of the flanged fuel line not covered by warranty. $800 out of pocket. Back up camera is a joke. They have no answer. Now most dangerous issuse. When ever we would slow down our car lost power and stalled. The car had to be turned off and restarted. Extremely dangerous for anyone, but with my three grandchildren we had to get to the bottom of it. Another Ford dealership said it was a bad battery. Charged me $140. 00 and didn’t change the battery. We bought a $200 battery but this has not stop the problem. Seems when you let off gas is mainly when. Making red lights and stops dangerous, your at a stop light or sign you must be aware that the car could stall 50/50. We can’t put our grandchildren in the car. It’s not safe we paid $400 to replace the fuel something or other, that controls the amount of fuel going into the combustion chamber as I was told, but nope hasn’t worked. Now when the car does take off the rpm shots up before the gears shift. We took it to get the code read and it’s telling us to replace the turbo. If they said something should be fixed we fixed it. I ask them about recalls on 2013 Ford Escapes and was told straight to my face there were non though I had gotten letters regarding the doors.
