1fmyu02z45ke49241 2005 Ford Escape xls, fwd had issue with throttle body. It got to the point where I would have to stop the gas pedal just to make it accellerate from a stopped state. This first happened back in November of 2011, and now I can feel it start to get to that point again. . . I was able to clean it last year with b-12 chemtool which took care of it right away. It was completely gunked but worked like new once I had it cleaned. Guess it is time to do this again. . . I figured I would report this after seeing a news article on abc regarding the exact same things.
I have the 2. 0 se with roof rails and panoramic sunroof. There is a water leak on the driver's side headliner right near the a-pillar. I pulled back the headliner and water is dripping from an area adjacent to a nylon fastener. The car is parked on an incline and the front of the car is higher than the rear, so the sunroof cannot be the source of the leak.
Driving 15mph down home street and heard a clunk. Put in reverse to get back to driveway and right front wheel was sideways and dragging. After calling local garage was informed it was the subframe that holds the control arm that was rusted through. Able to manuver car onto front lawn where it still sits.
I was driving my 2008 Ford Escape in a mall parking lot, and when I approach a stop sign the vehicle was extremely hard to stop. I had to use the full force of the break all the way down to maintain the vehicle from surging/ crashing into cars in front of me. The engine was staying accelerated and would continue to climb in rpms even thou the gas pedal was not being pressed. I pulled off to the side away from other cars and put the car into parked. At this time the vehicle accelerated on its own to about 8000 rpms. The only way to stop the engine was to completely turn the car off with the key. Upon turning on the vehicle again the problem did not continue.
I was driving and the car just lost power. I had just exited the hwy. I pulled over to the side of the road put the car in park and turned the key back off and the car restarted. Then this happened again about 5 minutes later. Then two weeks later is happened again same situation. It happened about 3- 4 times. We thought maybe it was bad gas -- so we refilled with premium gas. . . . Two weeks later it happened again 3 times in a row. On a major highway -- it was very scary. . I took it to the dealer they found nothing - did not charge me and there was no report that I even took the car in to them . 3 weeks after that . . It happened constantly but I was on a trip away from home -- it started back up every time . . I it happened 9 time in one day. 3 times on the interstate going about 60 mph -- it was very upsetting. . When I got home I took it to the dedaler and they said it was the abs and it would cost 800$+ -- I told them to keep the car and drive it until the issue I had happened to them -- they had it 2- 3 days and it finally happened to them when they had the diagnostics on the car. . . It was the throttle sensor . . . They charged me $400+ and it is now fixed--my sister had an Escape an dit had the same issue -- my 83 year old mother has the same car and I would not want this to happen to her! thanks.
There is a very bad reflection of the driver's side dash vent present in the side mirror. The dash vent is trimmed in chrome and as a result it reflects in the mirror blocking the view of traffic along the driver's side.
On June 7, 2012, I was severely injured in a vehicle accident as a result of the gear shift malfunction in my 2001 Ford Escape. As I put my vehicle in reverse to back out of a parking space, then into drive, the gear shift broke off, completely separating from the steering column. I was in shock after realizing I was actually holding the gear shift in my hand and it wasn't attached to anything. I tried screwing the “stick” back in its place and putting the vehicle in park. Distraught, I got out of the vehicle to ask for help. But no one was around. While reentering the vehicle, it began to roll backward. My left foot slipped off the running board and I was dragged on the pavement until the vehicle hit the curb. Upon impact, I lost my grip on the steering wheel and fell on my back to the ground. The driver’s side front tire rolled onto my left leg at the knee pinning me under the vehicle. Emergency teams were summoned after my cries for help were heard. The fire department used the “jaws of life” to free me from under the vehicle. A splint was applied to my left leg. I was transported by ambulance to the emergency room for treatment. Unable to walk, I was also given crutches upon leaving the hospital, treated by an orthopaedic surgeon and underwent physical therapy. On June 8, 2012, my Escape was accepted at the Ford dealership for repair. The service representative reported that the plastic part on the gear shift connecting a cable to the transmission had broken. In the past, I reported “popping noise in the steering” and “squeaking when turning wheel. ” at that time, the “gear assembly – steering” was replaced. The popping noise in the steering column happened again shortly before the gear shift separated from the steering column on June 7, 2012.
Over the past several months, my gas pedal has been sticking when trying to accelerate. It began in may 2012 and has been getting progressively worse. I thought it might have something to do with cold weather, but it has occurred at various times of the day as well as temperatures at throughout spring, summer and fall. I am forced to push hard on the accelerator when it sticks, which causes my vehicle to lunge forward. It usually sticks when I have completely stopped, but has often gotten stuck when accelerating after coming out of a curve I have slowed down to go through. It is a dangerous problem that seems to have occurred with several Ford Escapes in the past.
I was going approx. 30 - 35 mph and my car started jerking and sputtering as if it were out of gas then just died in the middle of an intersection. My husband had to push me across three lanes of traffic to a station where we bought gas. The car started right up so we went continued on with our business. We got on the interstate and was going about 65 mph and the same thing happened. I got it on the shoulder and it died again so we called the extended warranty CO. (which charged me an additional $200 deductible on top of the cost of the warranty) and they had it towed to the nearest Ford dealership which was on the other side of the interstate. My sister has the same car (only a year newer) and the exact same thing happened to her while she was on vacation in indiana. In researching the incident we discovered this is a very common problem in the Escape. The mechanic at the Ford dealership where she had her car towed to made the statement that he has been waiting for two years for a recall on this part. If this is a common issue then why hasn't Ford issued a recall (recall even a Ford mechanic is waiting for)? in researching we also discovered another issued with the back window exploding. I do not fee safe drivng my Escape (which I absolutely love). I am ready to trade it in <sigh>. Oh, and the mechanic also said the part he replaced was the exact same part as the one that was originally in the car. When asked what is to keep this from happening again and he said "nothing because it is the same part". So, they took a defaulted part out and replaced it with another defaulted part. I would just like to know why a recall hasn't been issued on this part. Thanks for your time.
While driving above 50mph, get a loud thud, thud, sound. Along with a change in interior pressure, or rear wheel problem. Slight vibration noticed. Sound relly hurts ears have to reduce speed below 50 mph. Dealer has failed to make an in depth inspection or test drive SUV. Ford motor company has indicated this is within normal operating specifications (more or less). Currently paying for a so called top rtaed Ford product. But I can not enjoy the full capacity of it. More than 30 years of buying a Ford product.
My son opened the back hatch to put his basketball bag in the back. He closed the hatch and as he did the back glass shattered.
I went to close the rear and went it shut, the rear window exploded shattering glass and sending it about 15 feet from the vehicle, no unnecessary force was used in closing the hatch, nothing was blocking it or anything. Bought this vehicle in October 2011. This happened Jan. 13, 2012. Just closed the hatch and boom, glass went everywhere,.
Yesterday I drove around town running errands in my 2002 Ford Escape and it was fine. Came home last night (temperature outside was around 27 degrees outside) and parked it in garage. When I went out to garage next day (14 hours later) to leave again I noticed my Ford Escape had it's back glass that was completely shattered out of it and all over the floor of the garage. All doors to garage were shut and locked. This explosion of glass happened all by itself after being parked there the night before. Also have an issue with air bag light and check fuel cap light that has both been staying on and cannot get either to stay off!! worried vehicle is gonna fall apart some day before I get my child to his school one morning. . Not dependable vehicle after all!! :( seems I have read many many other complaints online about these problems from Escape owners wanting to know. . Are there no recalls for the backglass?? or even anything else for this vehicle?? feeling unsafe for my child to ride in now!!.
Driving about 30 mph down the street with my mother and heard a very loud crash almost like a tree limb falling onto the car. The rear window had completely shattered while we were driving. There was shattered glass everywhere inside and outside the truck.
The paint is seperating on the hood and the roof of the vehicle.
I was in my car and when I stepped on the gas to accelerate and pull out on to the road, my engine raced and I only rolled forward, down the small slope, into traffic. After about 3 seconds my transmission caught and the car jumped forward and I momentarily lost control, barely missing another car in the other lane. Turns out almost all of the transmission fluid had leaked out from the transmission cooler, causing a malfunctioning transmission. After bringing the vehichle in to get inspected, and talking to multiple dealers, they all say that they consistently fix this issue on the 2008 Ford Escape. Some even say they have trouble stocking the part because they do so many. The vehichle has a faulty transmission cooler/ac condensor that consistently breaks and causes the vehichle to lose transmission fluid, resulting in unsafe vehichles.
Sunroof exploded while driving down the road. Glass exploded outward and not inward if something hit it.
On 22 Nov 2011 my 2011 Ford Escape XLT auto awd 2. 5l i4 rear windshield exploded after closing tailgate/hatch! I look inside soon after to see if anything had been in the way to cause it and their was not! this would have only been my third time opening the hatch part as I usually open the glass part mostly and which I also did that day and there was not indication on my dash that anything was still open so later that day I had to open my tailgate and I closed it and my windshield exploded! I have since had it replaced and am writing to you to inform you of this so that I will not happen to others! I have looked online at carcomplaints. Com and your site to see their are other complaints about rear windshield exploding which to be could be a safety issue for occupant and their families! I would like if possible for a review of all 2011 Ford Escape models to see if an upgrade to the hardware or support equipment needs to be done and maybe a safety bulleting to all 2011 Ford Escape owners to be aware of problem and how to prevent it! I was wondering if maybe it had anything to do with cabin pressure????? I say this because when you open the backseat windows I hear an echoing of sound in my SUV and I wonder with a certain amount of pressure applied to closing rear gate the pressure pushing off backseats is causing rear windshield to blow out??????? v/r, conerned Ford owner. . . .
The rear hatch on my 2009 Ford Escape XLT 4x4 finally quit opening. I have had the vehicle into the dealer for numerous issues and always mentioned a problem with the rear hatch not always opening but they could never duplicate the problem. I am now 5000 miles out of the bumper to bumper warranty and the hatch will not open. It used to 'hang up and not open on occasion, but now appears to be permanent. When I called my dealer they told me it was out of warranty and they had other customers that had the same problem, unfortunately, those customers paid between $250. 00 and $700. 00 to have it fixed. I contacted Ford directly requesting they repair the the lift gate since it had been reported when originally under warranty, only to be advised to pay to have it repaired as it is now out of warranty, and save my receipts in case there ever is a recall. (I find this statement interesting because it means they are aware of the problem). The only latch on the lift gate is a button above the license plate, there is no latch inside the vehicle or glove compartment that would allow you to manually open it. I consider this a huge safety concern.
Rear window exploded proceeding at green light, in traffic, at 10 mph. Defrosters and wipers were on due to light rain. Loud bang and glass filled the vehicle. Stopped vehicle to investigate. No foreign objects found to rule out foul play. No other damage to vehicle.
Rear windshield exploded when my colleague was putting his belongings in the back of my SUV. Brand new car and the the car wasn't turned for more than 5 minutes.
Subject: rear window "exploded". I closed the tailgate, not the window, and by the time I was 2-3 steps away, the window "exploded". The car was parked for about an hour before opened and I closed the tailgate door, then the window chattered into pieces that flew in all directions. I only opened and closed the door, I did not operate or touch the window but it chattered. It was the first and only door I had opened when it happened. Glass flew in all directions in little pieces like 8 feet away on the outside and like 3 feet on the inside. The sock absorbers are sticking out of the window and are too hard to retract and can't be put back inside the car. The rear wiper asembly is hanging and the heater elements are dangling too. The outside temperature was around the 40's at around 10:40 pm. Nothing could've touched the glass at the time of closing door since I only had a charcoal bag laying flat on the cargo area with a small box of aluminum foil, a small toolbox (like 4" x 8" x 12"), also laying flat on the cargo area floor, and a small blanket.
I was parked on the side of the road, got out of my vehicle, when I turned around my vehicle was heading toward me tried to stop it it ran me over and then hit a tree ,I received injury to my legs, also had to have my car fixed on the left front end. I would like to have Ford look into this complaint, also I feel I should be reimbersed, for my injuries and the cost for me to fix this vehicle.
The entire interior of the car where any metal is exposed is completely rusted out. All the exposed metal components including the tracks for the front seats, the undersides of the seats, the bolts holding the seats in place, and any pieces of metal on the interior of the car that are exposed are completely rusted out. The car was taken into the dealer and I was told that Ford does know about this "problem" and it is because all of the metal on the inside of the car is untreated metal and this will rust. I was further told that this is a "cosmetic" problem and because the car is still functioning then they are not responsible for fixing the problem. The interior of the car looks like an old, neglected car instead of a two year old pristine low mileage car that it is. Ford refuses to fix this problem until the mechanisms completely rust out and fall apart.
At stop or idle, engine surges, hesitates, stalls, smell gas, check engine light comes on. Took Escape to dealer. Dealer says its the purge valve and evap canister. Purge valve failed and raw gas filled evap canister. Dealer says its out of warranty, theres nothing they can do. This has been a know problem since 2006, TSB bulletin 11-3-22, part # 9u5z-9c915h-purge valve, part # 9r3z-9c985-b evap canister. Ford has done nothing to correct the issue. They replaced the damaged parts with the same parts with no fix for the spillage of raw fuel, on the ground, in the air, on the vehical. This raw fuel situation could cause a fire or explosion at any time. Yet Ford says its not an emission issue and the vehical is out of warranty. The Ford forums on the internet are full of complaints for the same raw fuel spillage. Does someone have to die before Ford admits they have a design problem and fixes it??? this same issue is also related to the 2010-12 fusion.
Purchased 2008 Ford Escape in June 2007. After around 25k miles the transmission was leaking fluid according to the Ford service center we took it to. They repaired this at no cost since this was under the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. Had a minor issue back in August with the air fan not blowing air properly. The fan had to be placed on high before it would blow out any air. This was fixed and cost approx. 200 dollars since the warranty was out in June 2007. No big deal. Then on October 30, around 73k miles on the car, it started stalling while driving and shaking violently. Put on brakes it would start to stall and when giving gas it would shake and then stall. Took it to the Ford service shop which is also the dealer where we have purchased around 5 or 6 vehicles and who has always serviced our Ford vehicles and were told that it needed a brand new transmission and since it is out of warranty this will cost $4,900. 00. Have checked on numerous websites and this is a common issue with Ford Escapes. I actually know someone who bought her vehicle at the same dealer, the same year vehicle and had the same exact problem with around the same mileage when her transmission went out as well as the fan problem. I do not feel that I should have to pay for this since we had the same issue back when the car only had 25k miles on it. This car is only 3 1/2 years old and we should not have these many issues with this car. I cannot afford to have it fixed so it will sit in my driveway.
Driving along interstate engine suddenly lost power, would not go above 20mph, no check engine light. Took to repair shop and first catalytic converter completely clogged, number 2 converter partially clogged. Vehicle only has 84,000 miles. Warranty expired at 80,000 miles for exhaust. Repair shop this happens a lot for these vehicles.
I drove 7 miles to work. It was a little foggy/dewey out so I turned on my rear defrost. The temperature was in the low 60's, so cool, but not cold by any means. I parked my car and rolled the windows (all 4) down @ 3 inches. When I parked my car @ 8:00am it was fine. By 9:10am, I was informed that the back windshield of my car was "broken". When I went to check my car, the back windshield had completely blown out. There was barely any glass on the inside of the car as it had all blown out 3-4 feet into the parking lot. I did have the local police respond just in case and the officer shrugged and questioned/stated "freak accident". I've found numerous reports of this happening on these vehicles, yet no public awareness has been made. I am just glad that it didn't happen while I was driving like with some reports I've read. My insurance would cover a "recycled" rear windshield/wiper and I am terrified to use the rear defrost on the new one knowing that it came from the same year and make of vehicle for fear it will happen again.
Out of nowhere in sept and oct of 2011 my sun roof, right passenger and right back passenger windows stopped working. They fell straight down. . The motor and the band quit and now come August and October of . 2012 the same thing on the left. I bpight this brand new on 2008 out of the dealership and now I have to spend my time and money for a defective auto.
Catylitic converters and flex pipe the catylitic converters have been diagnosed as having significant restriction to cause dramatic power loss to the vehicle while driving. This condition causes abnormal backpressures in the exhust system which also causes multiple misfires and sets the check engine light. The flex pipe is also defective and leaks. I have owned many Ford vehicles through the years. One was a 1994 Lincoln town car with over 400,000 miles. Another was a 1998 town car with over 200,000 miles. Never once did I have to replace anything on the exhust system, especially catylitic converters (the most expensive part in the system). This is unacceptable and a recall needs to be initiated to resolve this. Not only is this a safety and moral issue but an environmental on as well.
Loud sueaky noise from right front end. Took to mechanic. They say both front grease boots are cracked which allows dirt, dust, etc. To get in and up around the ball joints and tie rod assemblies. The right front ball joint had gone bad due to this boot crack so we had to replace it. They recommend replacing both tie rods, boots and ball joints, but we could only afford to repalce the ball joint that was bad at this time because we just spent $3350 putting a new transmission in the car. This vehicle has less than 50,000 miles on it. Unbelievable!!!! what is Ford building these cars with??? I suspect the cheapest parts they can get regardless of their quality so they can make more money. In the meantime the average working family has to pay twice for a vehicle's parts that should not go bad so quickly.
2008 Ford Escape has 68,000 miles on it, the transmission is jerking when shifting into first and second gear. It is really bad shifting to second, it's almost like the motor is dropping. My a/c also just started having issues, the fan only works on high.
On Aug 13, 2011 the rear window on our 2009 Ford Escape shattered when the hatch door was closed. This is the second time that this has happened. The first time was Nov 12, 2010 and we filed a report then too. Fortunately, both times our car was sitting in our driveway. Both times this happened for no apparent reason when my wife closed the door. We know that the NHTSA is investigating the 2010 - 2011 Escape for this problem. Please include earlier models as well. We believe this problem needs immediate attention because if it happened while driving on the highway a serious accident could occur.
It was happend about a year ago, especially under the hot weather condition. I am not sure that where the massive viblation sound comes from but most likely it feels through the steering wheel(steering shaft rod?) or brake pedal. When I first realized this problem, it was very hot summer day and air conditioner (ac) was on. I drove about for 15-20 minutes and parked the vehicle for a while (about 20 minutes or so). Then I started the engine again and tried to back up the vehicle from the parking spot, it was happened. After that happening, I was having same problem whenever I was driving with ac on(I did not have the problem during cold season at all). Now is summer of 2012 and this problem has been coming back most of time of driving no matter ac is on or off (it seems like getting worst?). Past 10 years, I had several recalls with this vehicle so I really want to report the broblem I have in case.
I drove my 2010 Ford Escape to the olympic penninsula from seattle on a sunny 70 degree day (taking the bremerton ferry to save on mileage) and drove one hour to my property in lilliwaup on a paved road. After unpacking the the Escape I closed the back hatch as usual and it exploded blowing a million pieces of glass 10 feet in all directions. I had my daughter and 3 yr old twin grandsons with me who were standing closeby. Miraculousy none of us were hurt but we were all very scared and shaken! it was like a bomb went off in the back of the vehicle. Glass was still hanging from the window frame and the wiper and struts were dangling outside. It took me 2-3 hrs to clean up the glass from the car and the property. I duct taped the edges of the frame so any remaining glass would not blow back in when I drove home and put socks on the struts so as not to scratch the paint. Luckily it was not raining on the way home as it often does in seattle. I googled the problem when I got home and found out that there are 18 other complaints about the same problem on this vehicle. I drove my Escape to bill pierre Ford service center today and told my story and they are replacing for free and giving me a free rental car until the new back window comes in which they said would be 2-3 weeks! they said they just had another 2010 Ford Escape there with the same problem. This can be life threatening if it explodes again and hits someone in the face or body and I want to make sure that it never happens again to anyone! I want Ford motor company to publicly acknowledge this problem and fix it! I also want to make sure that the new window I am getting is safe. I have my grandsons with me in this vehicle all the time.
On rt. 59, just south of northwest hwy (rt. 14) in barrington, my 2002 Ford Escape XLT was involved in a bizarre incident or accident. While sitting static on level road in a line of traffic with a train-crossing barrier arm keeping traffic safely waiting for the train to pass, my vehicle lurched forward in an unintended acceleration while my foot was firmly pressing on the brake petal. The engine raced at >= 4000 rpm. With continued braking action on my part with no vehicle response, the passenger-side front end of my vehicle hit the 1988 Ford f150 truck immediately in front of me. As a side note, I had the 2005 Ford recall work performed on the defective accelerator cable, with the cable replacement at packey webb Ford dealership service center in wheaton, illinois. There is a safety-hazard risk associated with the vehicle, and I refuse to drive this vehicle even if the approximately $4000. 00 damages are repaired, which I have not authorized. I am an experience computer it software/hardware professional, as well as an engineering design controls expert in the health care industry, working for a major product manufacturer (software and hardware). There is a definite safety risk associated with this vehicle make/model, and I want to report this incident to the proper agency. The insurance company, Ford dealership, and the authorized service center have done noting to identify the root cause for the vehicle malfunction on design defect; they only treat this as a loss and did not perform initial computer diagnostics prior to compromising the vehicle in their actions to appraise damages to the vehicle. I need this incident properly investigated and reported to the pubic if a safety risk is confirmed.
On or about June 17, 2011, my 2002 Ford Escape was parked and the ignitition was in the off position when my car alarm went off. When I looked outside I observed smoke bellowing out from under the hood. The next day, I was able to get my vehicle to galpin Ford, prescott, az, where they diagnosed the abs module has overheated and needs to be replaced. I was given an estimate of $720. 00 to repair the problem. Upon further investigation I have discovered that the service brakes, hydraulic: antilock; control unit module was recalled by Ford (#07s51)on April 23, 2007 and continues to be open. I was in contact with angel; service manager for vison Ford/Lincoln in alamagordo, nm on or about June 30th to follow up on the work they had done in may 2007 concerning this problem. He informed me that when they inspected the vehicle in 5/07, there was no problem and that it was properly inspected, and they placed grease on it , and are not willing to pay for this repair. On or about July 1, 2011, tony pacini, service manager at galpin Ford, prescott, az submitted a claim to the Ford motor CO. Regarding this repair at no cost to me. Upon further inspection, galpin Ford has also discovered another recall problem (NHTSA #07e023000)service brakes, hydraulic: foundation components: master cylinder and that brake fluid has leaked from the rear of master cylinder and has leaked on the vehicle into the power brake booster. I have been experiencing no brakes when I put my foot on the brake pedel. Despite these recall problems being invesitgated, neither Ford motor company; galpin Ford, prescott az; or vision Ford Lincoln, almagordo, nm, feel that they are not responsible for the repairs and have told me I must bare the enormous costs for these repairs on my own and/or drive the vehicle unsafely. I have been stranded in prescott, az for over 3 weeks, and am tired of wrangling with all three dealership/companies and need your help in investigating this situation! thank you!.
My husband shut the lift gate on our 2011 Ford Escape and the rear window exploded into a thousand pieces. This vehicle has less than 2,000 miles on it.
I drove my vehicle home from work (less than 5 miles). When I pulled into my driveway and parked my vehicle, smoke began to pour out from the engine compartment. When I opened the hood there were flames directly in front of the driver side near the fire wall. These flames were originating from the abs module location.
My Ford Escape just started leaking fluid one day. Even thought Ford admites its a huge huge problem that will effect my transmission its not recalled or covered by the warranty. The tranny cooler/ac condenser is leaking.
Front lower sub-frame is rotted out and the vehicle is unsafe to drive. (my service garage, who have maintained my vehicle continuously since I bought it, says this is very premature for this condition to occur. ).
2005 Ford Escape "tone ring" on the axel throws off the abs and it engages at the tap of the brakes. Grabbing the brakes, either slamming on brakes or no brakes at all. I have researched this and there are many many complaints from 01-10 Escapes. Dealers are charging for axel and ring to be replaced when all that needs replaced is the 15$ ring. I feel this shoud be recalled because it causes vehicles to flip over and also to not stop. My vehicle has 90,xxx miles on it and the abs light comes on and goes off. The vehicle will often not brake at all! I have had to put it in nutreul and pull off of road. This has happened when abs light was not on! I feel this is a perfect defect to be recalled because it has to do with a major major problem the brakes. Please someone look into this. I have just spent 800 dollars fixing this and the mechanic said its very very common. Googled it and found this to be very very common. Thank you.
I was driving my 2010 Ford Escape at apx 45 mph and a loud explosion occured turns out my sun roof glass exploded for no apparent reason.
Driving down the road at approx. 45 mph, I hear a loud pop, and the rear window exploded. Nothing hit it, wiper was not on, rear defrost had turned off about 5 minutes prior. Luckily all of the glass, and I mean all because the entire rear window is gone, was either in the back of the truck or on the bumper. Now I am out almost $300 plus for what reason? then I see I am not the first this has happened to. I don't know if other rear window components need replaced yet as I am still waiting to get the window replaced.
The rear hatch window of our 2005 Ford Escape SUV exploded while parked in our garage. We heard a loud boom, then the sound of glass shattering. We discovered the rear auto-safety glass had blown out and was everywhere, covering a two garage bay area. It was 3:30am and no one was in or near the vehicle at the time.
It feels like a brick is underneath the accelerator pedal. No matter how hard I push down, the pedal doesn't budge. Then without reason the pedal works again. At first it would happen when I shift to third gear and I would be in the flow of traffic and not often, maybe once every 7-8 months. Now it has occurred everyday once a day the last three days. One time backing up. The accelerator pedal will not engage.
While trying to leave a fast food drive up my power steering froze up. I had to manually ream on the steering wheel to make all corners from the restaurant to my condo - approximately 4 miles. I did not have any component messages on the read out. When the tow truck driver arrived an hour later he was able to move the SUV from the garage to his flatbed tow truck - no problem. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where it was "checked out" for two days. Nothing was found.
Was driving my new 2010 Ford Escape hybrid, which I had just purchased in August, 2010 at about 40 mph when - for no apparent reason - the rear window on the driver's side imploded. If a child had been in backseat, the child would have a highly liklihood of injury to eyes and probably cuts. Took the car to the dealership - and upon their inspection - they said there was nothing wrong with the window mechanism; and therefore, Ford would not fix the window for free. Ended up costing me $500. I understand Ford has been having issues with the same type of freak window explosions/implosions in the Ford Escape. Ford should be made to replace these windows - the dealerships are of no help whatsoever.
2005 Ford Escape was parked inside a secured garage overnight. At some point overnight, the rear window spontaneously shattered. No one was in the car or garage when this occurred, and the garage was still secure in the morning. Pea-size glass pieces were found up to 10 feet away from the car, and a large amount of glass went into the rear cargo area of the Escape. The pieces of the glass were manually cleaned up from the vehicle and the garage floor. The window was replaced with a new identical part at a local auto glass repair shop. The owner of the Escape paid for this new window completely with his own money. Due to the fully random nature of this event, I believe it to be vehicle defect with the rear window glass or some part supporting the glass. I will be contacting Ford directly as well.
Our rear hatch window on our 2002 Ford Escape xls exploded overnight while sitting undisturbed in our garage. It had been sitting for 10 hours in our enclosed garage when it exploded for no reason. The temperature outside was in the single digits. I'm wondering if the rear defrost wasn't cut off when the car was shut off? when I started the car after the window shattered the rear defrost was on. There are other reports on the internet with similar occurrences. Rear window exploding on Ford Escapes sounds common. Insurance company is suppose to be in contact with me, but I imagine we will be paying most of the repair out of pocket since we haven't met a deductible.
Walnut creek Ford misrepresented that the Ford Escape I was purchasing with 17 inch wheels and tires could be driven with cables at the time that we acquired the vehicle and signed an acknowledgment that it could not use snow chains. Subsequently, when we had to use the cables we discovered that the vehicle could not be driven in California in snow at all because neither cables or snow chains can be used. Snow tires are not an option because the California highway patrol allows snow tires only with 4 wd vehicles and this car is a 2 wd vehicle, therefore, the vehicle cannot be driven safely in snow at all. This is a safety issue and the walnut creek Ford dealership will not acknowledge its responsibility to remedy this safety defect and in fact will not even return my phone calls at all. Updated portable 03/03/11.
About a month ago my 2006 Ford Escape started killing on me while I was driving at low speeds and at stop signs. Id put it in neutral, and it would start right up. . I took it to Ford and they said it needed a new transmission. We changed all the sparkplugs (they needed changed) it ran great for about 2 months, then it started again. More frequenlty, and at all speeds. It's dangerous, especially going around curves or on the freeway. I love my Escape, and I don't trust the Ford dealership, that tried to sell me a $2800 transmission. For some reason it's not getting spark. Ive been looking for a reapir manual, hoping it will help me figure out why this happens. I'm no mechanic, but it seems like it's something fixable.
In December 2010, I was closing the liftgate on my 2010 Ford Escape and the liftgate glass shattered as it closed. The glass shattered inside and out. The shattering glass also caused damage to the paint on the liftgate. The glass had to be replaced and the liftgate repainted.
2002 Ford Escape XLT caught fire while parked. Vehicle was totaled.
While the 2005 Ford Escape was being driven on a four-lane road, the gas pedal stopped working. The car was going downhill and the driver steered it into a parking lot. There, on closer inspection under the dashboard, it was evident that the throttle cable had failed where it connects to the top of the articulating arm of the gas-pedal: depressing the pedal did not pull the cable; the cable end protruded through a little tube at the top of the arm, but was not attached to the articulating arm. The arm moved freely without engaging the cable. This failure had resulted in sudden and complete inability to accelerate -- no throttle. Under certain driving conditions (e. G. Merging onto a highway or crossing a busy intersection where cross-traffic is not required to stop at a stop sign or a red light) this system failure has a high chance of resulting in injury or death. In the parking lot, the owner attached a pair of needle-nose vise-grip pliers to the end of the cable at the top of the articulating arm of the gas pedal, as a temporary fix, and drove the car to the Ford dealership about a mile away. After inspecting the car, the Ford dealership service department ascribed the failure to "throttle body binding" and advised complete replacement of throttle body assembly and cable.
I was closing the back hatch on my 5 week old 2011 Ford Escape when the back glass shattered everywhere. I contacted Ford motor company and they related to me that the back glass was not covered. So, of corse I had to re-place my back glass for approx $400. Exactly 2 days after the new glass was installed, it happened again. When closing the liftgate the back glass shattered. This time the glass company replaced it for free, but when contacting the Ford company and dealership they were very rude and disrespectful. After contacting the better business bureau, still nothing was done. It has not happened since, but now I try not to put anything into the back of my car so I don't have to lift the hatch.
My wife was loading our Escape trunk before going to work in the morning. When she closed the hatch door, the rear window shattered outward. It was like the window exploded sending glass all over the driveway behind the vehicle. The window cost almost $600 to replace and the Ford body shop estimated almost $1,300 damage to the hatch finish for the nicks and scratches from the broken glass. We contacted Ford but they refused to cover any of the damage. Our insurance covered the cost of the repairs except for our $250 deductible. We found a web site where there were 31 incidents of Escape rear windows shattering. We believe there must be a defect in the glass or window design and want to go on record that this is a problem with the Ford Escape.
New 2010 Ford Escape XLT, 4 cylinder, was purchased in September, 2010. During late October, 2010, a noise became evident when starting from a stopped position. The noise sounds like a brief rubbing noise. Weather does not appear to be a factor. The vehicle was examined at least twice by the dealer who denied hearing the noise and determined it was not a safety concern. One explanation given by the dealer is that it could be the result of the amount of pressure the driver uses on the gas and break pedals. The noise has occurred with various drivers, so I do not agree with the dealers explanation. The noise continues as of this date.
2006 Ford Escape - gas pedal sticks and is hard to press down, especially when it's cold outside. Noticed at approximately 55,000 miles. Have noticed many similar complaints on the internet.
I was driving on the highway when the SUV started to decelerate. I was traveling at 70mph. The rpm did not change when I pressed the gas pedal. The SUV coasted to 0mph. I had to turn the car off for a few minutes. When I restarted it, it drove well enough to get to the Ford dealership. Diagnostics were run and I was told that it was a "hiccup" and nothing registered in the computer as an alert. I was told to return if it happened again but was told again that it was a "hiccup. " the following week, it happened again as I was leaving work. I drove to the Ford dealership but this time I took video. I was told it was the throttle that needed to be replaced. Possibly a sensor?? I'm not sure. Because the SUV was out of warranty and it was a Saturday, Ford didn't know if my extended warranty would cover the part. They cleaned the throttle, I think, and told me to come back on Monday. I drove out into the road in front of the dealership and the throttle messed up again. The car decelerated. I turned it off, waited, turned it back on and drove back and paid for Ford to install the part. The car still seems to want to decelerate at times but it doesn't and there are no warning alerts/lights. Again, I do have video of what actually happened the 2nd time the SUV's throttle messed up.
Ford Escape (2010) appears to have frequent windshield glass breakage compared to other vehicles. A very tiny ship can cause large windshield cracks. Please investigate and take appropriate actions. Off course the manufacturer is hiding behind, "the Ford Escape windshield meets all regulatory conditions".
My 2005 Ford Escape has a problem with the accelerator sticking. It used to only stick in cold weather right when I started the car, but now it does it regardless of temperature, and even while driving. I went from having this problem maybe once every three months (approx 3 years ago was the first occurrence), to it happening almost every time I drive the car. When it sticks, I cannot accelerate at all. I will use both feet to try and depress the gas, but it is like pushing against a wall. Sometimes simply restarting the car fixes it, but I was stuck in the middle of an intersection yesterday when it froze up half-way through the turn. I had to be pushed to the shoulder. Luckily there was not too much oncoming traffic that would have risked an accident. I have looked this up online, and many other Escape owners discuss this very same problem. I called the Ford dealership, and they said that this is not a recall, but it very much should be. I am taking it in to be looked at, and hopefully they can fix it, but this is obviously a manufacturer defect if so many other owners are having the same issue. Ford does not want the same reputation as Toyota right now, and they should do something about it proactively. The Escape is a mid-size SUV that many families own. By the time a mother and her two children are killed simply turning across a street, it will be too late.
I am wondering will there be any recalls on other cars other than Toyota related to gas pedals sticking? my Ford Escape's gas pedal would get stuck and after taking it to my local dealer they said it was the throttle body assembly that needed to be replaced. I had to wait 2 weeks for the part to come in from china. Is there any relationship between what is going on with Toyota and my problem I had with Ford. This was a safety issue that is being overlooked by Ford.
Gas pedal sticks, won't let me accelorate from time to time.
The vehicle stalls (loses all power and comes to a halt) at low speeds even sometimes in reverse gear. It has happened at parking lots at low speeds or when I am just about to take off at traffic lights. Only happens at low speeds. Have taken it to the dealership multiple times, have gotten the computer module reprogrammed, changed battery, alternator, idler controller valve and relay so far. None of these have fixed the problem, the car is back with the mechanic for other checks. The problem has been very intermittent, it sometimes happens and sometimes does not!. Taking the key out and putting it back and starting the engine again gets me moving again!. So far I have been lucky not to be hit by anyone from behind!.
2005 Ford Escape. Ford dealer service for oil change, rotate tires and brake inspection noted front brake pads needed replaced. Declined service, (price) able to change front pads ourselves. We could not remove wheel lug nuts. (the same day) checked torque and found dealer had over tightened the lug nuts to over 150 lbs. With much effort removed lug nuts and changed front brake pads. Returned to dealer to complain and request all new wheel studs. Although they could not remove the rear lug nuts with the wrench supplied with the Escape they denied replacing the wheel studs. I believe the failure with wheel studs on Ford products is a dealer service problem. Question: have the failures all happened after dealer service?.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Escape. Thirty minutes after fuel was placed in the vehicle, it caught fire in the contact's driveway. The fire department arrived and extinguished the fire. A report was filed. There were no injuries and the vehicle was destroyed. The cause of the failure was unknown. The failure mileage was 103,000.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. While the vehicle was parked in the garage, the contact noticed smoke coming from the garage door. Upon further inspection, she noticed huge flames underneath the vehicle. The vehicle exploded and the back of the house and the garage door were blown away as a result. Prior to the failure, the vehicle had not been driven for two days and displayed no signs of failure. The fire department was called and extinguished the flames. The home and the vehicle were destroyed. There were no injuries. The insurance company inspected the vehicle and stated that the cause of the failure was unknown. The manufacturer stated that they would forward the complaint to their attorney and call the contact back with an update. The failure mileage was 12,000.
Consumer states that his 2008 Ford Escape has several problems. Efforts has been made to fix the vehicle, but new problems develop and ongoing problems has not been resolved.
I recently noticed that the paint on my 2003 Ford Escape was peeling and flaking at an alarming rate, both on the roof and on the rear panel. The paint was so loose that a strong wind was able to pick up the edges and strip it off the car. On October 24, 2007 I took it to my local Ford dealership, napleton's northwestern Ford in chicago, for an appointment with the zone district manager. He declined my request for financial help in repairing this problem, citing that the warranty period had expired. My estimate for repair from napleton's recommended body shop said, in writing, that the peeling paint was caused by delamination of paint and a bad priming prep job. I sent a copy of the estimate, pictures of the damage and a letter of explanation to both the Ford customer relations center in detroit and my dealership owner - and received back a short form letter from detroit stating that they would not help me financially as the warranty period had expired. Although I realize that the warranty period has expired, I believe that my paint problem was caused by substandard work at the factory, a belief substantiated by the body shop. Recalls are done all the time for parts that are faulty, regardless of warranty. My paint job was faulty, and therefore I believe Ford should help me fix it. According to the center for auto safety and other web sites, paint should not be peeling off cars that are only 4 or 5 years old. I got the damage fixed, which cost me nearly $1,200. Prior to owning my Escape, I owned a Ford escort for 10 years, which never had a paint problem. Up until now I have been a loyal Ford customer, but since it appears that cutting corners and doing substandard work is their mode of operation, I will never buy another new Ford.
2007 Ford Escape hybrid lock-out and cruise control are not illuminated properly. Customer states that passenger switch is inoperative. The consumer stated the night driving would be enhanced if the cruise control switch and window lock out switch located on the door was better illuminated.
The newly redesigned instrument cluster "area" for the newly arriving 2008 Mazda tribute is a safety and traffic hazard in the following way: because of new shape for the plexiglass front and the location of the hood and the materials used, it allows the sun's rays to spotlight on the speedometer and tachometer "area" , causing the worst "glare" that I have ever come accross in all my years of buying and driving new cars. This causes blindess (even with a good pair of polarized sunglasses on) during sunny days, when the vehicle is traveling in the right angle to the sun. On a recent trip out of town, I had to actually hold up one of my hand's close to the instrument cluster, to block the sun's reflection. That meant driving with only one arm. The only safe time to drive this vehicle is during cloudy days. Unfrotunately that was the type of day it was when I test drove, before signing 3 year lease. This is the sister vehicle to the Ford Escape and Mercury mariner. All 3 are built in the same Ford plant in kansas city, missouri. They must all have the same design flaw. The same vehicles dash was just fine from 2001-2007. I know, because I owned several of them. Only the new dash on the new 2008 models have this problem.
The gas pedal sticks. It can not be pushed. At first, it only happened when the engine was cold & the temperature was cold. Now it happens all the time, regardless of temperature. It almost caused an accident when it happened in the middle of an intersection. There is also an issue with muliple broken tone rings and oil leaks.
We purchased a 2007 Ford Escape in Feb. Within a few days we noticed a strange noise when accelerating. We brought it back to the dealer & the manager agreed that there was indeed a noise. We brought it in for service & upon picking it up the next day, were told that there was nothing wrong. The manager insisted that they investigate further, so it was kept another day. Still, no idea what the noise was. We have driven in other '07 Escapes that do not they this noise. Now it's 6 weeks later, we have 600 miles on a car with a strange noise & Ford may finally be sending a trouble shooter to investigate the situation. Since no one knows what is causing the noise, we have some concerns as to the trucks safety. We have been told that problem is occurring in other '07 Escapes.
I've a 2003 Ford Escape that I purchased from a dealer in 2004. About a year ago, I noticed the paint chipping and peeling from the hood which I attributed to stone chips from highway driving but now, the paint is coming off on the right rear of the car where the roof section meets the main body.
I bought my Escape in June 2004. Around/approximatley 2006 my gas pedal started to stick as I was driving from time to time. I got stuck in the intersection one morning and couldnt get the pedal unstuck. When I finally did I drove the car over the capitol Ford in san jose, CA. And told them what was happening. When Ford test drove the car, they said they couldnt find nothing wrong with it. I told them something was wrong with the gas pedal and I was not driving it off the lot until they found the problem with the gas pedal. The next day they called and said the pedal was sticking and they had to replace the throttle body. Ford covered because I was under warranty. On 12/6/2011, my pedal started to stick again this time I was on the freeway. Stuck 4 times. I took it back to the same Ford and told them my pedal was getting stuck I had this problem in 2006 and this shouldnt be happening and they needed to do something about it. I got the song and dance of how the car was out of warranty and they would give me an estimate and I could pay to get it fixed. After inspecting Ford said the throttle body was bad again. After stating my case with them this should not be happening they got Ford involved to see it they would cover. Ford came back and said no. There was nothing they could do becuase it was out of warranty. Again I explained this is not a warranty issue this is a safety issue and people could be serioulsy injured. Ford didnt want to budge and kept using the warranty excuse. So I had no choice but to pay and get this fixed. This is not right. Ford needs to take responsibilty for their cars and the safety of their customers. This needs to be addressed to Ford.
Iac kept going bad. Car would stop in the middle of driving, I almost had 2 wrecks. I had to get this fixed due to the danger of driving. Old part is not available.
Periodically and unpredictably, the key will not turn. Sometimes, it can be forced, if you are strong enough. Other times it cannot even be forced. But then it will work the next day. Moving the stearing wheel does not allow the key to turn even when trying to turn the wheel with force. My car has been towed once because 3 people tried and could not turn either key I have for the vehicle. I've been told by mechanics that this is a common Ford problem. I believe it is a safety concern because you never know where/when you will be stranded, whether or not you will have access to a phone. One mechanic said he could rebuild the stearing column and that had worked for other people with the same problem - however, that dealership would not provide a loaner car so I would be without any transportation for 1-2 days. The dealership where I bought my car has refused to do anything because the problem is sporatic and they say they cannot duplicate it. The ignition has locked 4 times in the past month. Additonally - the abs brakes only work intermitently which makes it difficult when making the split second decision of whether to slam on the brakes or pump the brake.
2005 gas pedal acceleration accident in 2001 Ford Escape . Upon starting car it accelerated by itself , and I could not get it to stop. It sped up to at least 40mph with a mind of its own. I crashed into a brick wall and it took the jaws of life to tear open the car to get me out. I am totally disabled now with a severely shattered foot and ankle. I have a metal plate in my leg now.
Rubber pegs are falling off the inside rear hatch door of our 2005 Ford Escape xls 4-door.
I bought a 2005 Ford Escape on January 22, 2005. I drove it home and noticed that it had a vibration (very noticable) and it had a noise in the rear end. Called the dealer and they said it must be the new tires and after a few miles it would go away. It did not go away. Called again and they said bring it in a we will balance the tires. So I did and it still had the vibration and noise. Called again and they said it must be the differential. Brought it back and the vibration and noise are still there. Called again and they sid it must be a dampier problem. Brought it back and it still is doing the same thing. It is now almost four months later and it still has the vibration and roar in the rear and I am concerned that this vibration is causing damage to the car and I will have worse problems.
The present is in reference to an ongoing problem with my vehicle 2003 Ford Escape. I purchased this said vehicle on may 05, 2004, which was sold to me as a demo. Since then I've had problems with my car. There is a problem that yet hasn't been resolved due to the fact, that they can't find its source. Since August 2004 I've been reporting that when my car sits for a while either in the morning or in the afternoon it gives me a hard time to start up, this is not a sequence like problem. I understand that without finding the problem it can't be diagnosed, but on the other hand I can't afford being in the dealer all the time missing hours of work without pay and also staying without transportation. Not to mention that I'm having extra expenses with the vehicle that I really can't afford and also manage to pay for the car monthly. Being that all my efforts have been fruitless I resort to file a complaint with the department of licensing and consumer affairs. On Friday April 22, 2005, I spoke to mr. Escobar which is a technician from puerto rico and he arranged that on Wednesday April 27, 2005 I leave my vehicle on the premises of metro motors overnight and they would provide me with a loner for the time being. Management changed the dates and my car stayed on the dealers premises on Wednesday, may 4, 2005 til Monday, April 9, 2005. Yet still no problem can be found. Thanks god I haven't had no accidents but I would really want to find out whats the source of the problem for my own safety.
I am not sure if this is a defect, but seems to me with a 2003 SUV should not have paint chipping off (very small ) , so I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. 2003 Ford Escape.
On my 2001 Ford Escape the paint is coming off the roof racks in several places. Also the paint is bubbling on the hood in several places. The wiper arms don't seem to be holding the paint and it's starting to look faded and rusty. The car is kept in a garage except at work.
My wife's Escape has paint peeling off the hood. You are able to see stages of peel from small darken crack marks to exposed primer. I took it to the dealership where it was purchased and they said that since the warranty expired they will only pay 70 % of the cost to repair it. When the body shop manager evaluated the problem he stated that the the finish is coming off and it looks like it may be a factory problem. I do not think I should have to pay for something that is of no fault of ours.
While driving down a town street, we heard a pop on the left hand side of the vehicle. Within seconds steering became difficult, a strong vibration and loud reving sound persisted. Thinking we had a transmission problem we had the vehicle towed to the dealership where it sat for three days. They insisted there was no problem with the vehicle. My husband insisted they look harder and they found the motor mount had broken. While it is repaired under warranty, it is our third defect in a vehicle we have owned for a short time.

2005 Escape lost traction, skidded and became uncontrollable. This occured while dring in snowy conditions in a chain control area and resulted in and accident. The consuemr feels that the manufacture/owner's manual was unclear about it's recommendation on tire tractions devices. The consumer signed a document at the time of purchase which stated, as equipped, this vehicle may not be operated with tire chains but may accomidate some other type of tire traction device.
Complaint concerning 2003 Ford Escape.
2010 Ford Escape. Consumer expresses discontent regarding the denial of a grab handle for her disability in the vehicle the consumer was told that if she purchased the vehicle, a grab handle would be installed. However, that turned out to false. No one was willing to install the grab handle as the consumer was informed it would effect the structure of the vehicle in case of a roll over accident.
Consumer's cousin is the owner of 2001 Ford Escape which has a recall. Since the cousin is in iraq, consumer requested an extension to have recall performed. (deneen leban on balf of cousin brian leban).
