Abs break light came on and the car failed to stop. Was driving on the road in a small town and was stopping to turn on to a road. The problem had also happen when someone has stopped suddenly in front of me and I needed to break suddenly. Had break fluid changed at Ford dealership and did not fix the problem. When you need to stop suddenly and hit the breaks hard, the pedal hard it stiffens up and will not stop the car. If you turn off the car and wait a few minutes and turn it back on, it seems to reset it until you hit the breaks hard again.
The abs light comes on, and after driving it for a few minutes, the brakes completely do not work. After bringing it to a Ford dealership, the part itself is about $5,000 not including labor. (hydrocolic control unit). They didnt recommend fixing it because of how expensive it is. I still owe $5,000 so im stuck paying for a part that is worth more then the car itself.
I bought a 10 year old 2006 Escape Hybrid with 73,000 miles. After 4,000 mile the abs light would go on and the brakes would go into manual mode and the warning lights read check brake system and regen disenaged. After restarting the car the problem would go away. This would happen when the vehicle was moving at various speeds. The car still did stop with more brake pressure. We brought it to the dealer and they reset the error codes and gave us back the car. They stated this was per the Ford corporate standards and they could not find anything wrong with the brakes despite the error codes. About 6 weeks later the problem happened again and kept happening. However, this time the brake pedal is soft and we are not confident it will stop every time as it did before. We brought it back to the dealer. Now Ford has diagnosed an issue with the master cylinder, hcu and abs computer all need to be replaced for $8100 (I only paid $7500 for the car). Since Ford are the only ones that can calibrate the abs computer we cannot get the repair cheaper elsewhere. Ford will do nothing because it is out of the warranty period.
Abs light comes on. Brakes are loose. Happened now more than 10 times. We just pull over the side and turn off the car. Start again and brakes work fine for a while. This is an scary car. I use to drive my kids around.
When applying brakes pedal has to be pressed all the way to the floor and the car continues to move forward almost causing an accident. At this point the abs light comes on.
We were driving the car on the freeway and suddenly the abs light comes on and the breaks did not work. They were very hard to depress and slowed the car very slowly. Had this happened when we needed to stop, there would have been an accident, without a doubt. This happened about 3 weeks ago and my mechanic reset the computer and all was good for about 2 weeks. Then the exact same thing happened again. My mechanic, who I trust impeccably was baffled by the whole thing and asked that we send the car to a dealership. I've never seen that before. The dealer (first dealer) is telling us we need to replace the master cylinder, then maybe the hydraulic control unit, which thankfully, is still under warranty in CA because it's a hybrid part. However, if it is the hcu, we still have to pay for the master cylinder, even though I suspect it's the hcu from what I've read online. I then called the dealer who inspected the car when we initially bought it (second dealer from here on out). The first dealer is quoting us $2800 to fix the master, while the other is quoting around $2000. The second one is also saying he might be able to diagnose the hcu and just change it out where dealer 1 is saying Ford says in order to change out the hcu, the master has to be changed first. The second dealer is saying this simply isn't true. We just bought the car from a private seller and frankly, I'm scared to drive it. I'm reading a lot of problems with this part of the car and it looks to me like Ford is having some serious, life threatening issues with this component. . . As well as giving people massive bills to fix their car. The only thing that should cost $4000 on a car should be the engine. Not the brake system. This is insanity.
Coming to a stop to leave parking lot, I felt the brakes shutter as if was sliding. The skiing light came on for about 2 seconds, vehicle motion stopped, then the abs light came on and got a message on dash the get bake system serviced. Abs light in on all the time and the abs system does not work. Will be taking to repair shop today for evaluation and repair. This seems to be a known issue with this vehicle model. Recall????.
My 2006 Escape Hybrid suddenly lost braking power, occurring as I attempted to slow to exit off of I-95 to my home. The abs and warning light came on, at the same time, the brake pedal went to the floor board but there was just enough to get slowed down pushing as hard as I could and luckily the off ramp was up hill. I was going to pull off and get towed but decided being on the side of I-95 was too scary and instead drove ,despite the failure. I went 5mph and made it home . The next morning the brakes were miraculously working fine. Now I am too scared to drive the car and have read of others that spent tons of money without the car being fixed.
Driving about 35 and the abs light and anti skid light came on, when at slow speed the car started doing a chugging and then it went on battery. It did this all the way home. I am luckier than most my man is a mechanic an put it on the computer and it stated where the problem was. I also looked online and see hundreds of people complaining about the tone ring. In 5 months my 16 year old will be driving this car full time and now I am real concerned for her safety. Some one recall this tone ring, people are loosing brakes!!!!.
Driving up to a stop sign when I felt like I had no brake control to stop. I had to depress the pedal as far as I could and prayed that I would stop before the busy intersection. When I came to a stop, the service brake system code came on and chimed. The abs light was lit, along with brake warning. Luckily we were only a few blocks from the house, that we were able to carefully make it back home. After taking the vehicle in for a brake system warning before where they diagnosed a faulty wiring harness and replaced at my expense. Now that we were able to get the vehicle to the dealership they have stated that the hydraulic control unit was a problem and possibility of the master cylinder. All this at a cost of $4500+ parts and labor. After just finishing paying off the vehicle loan we own a vehicle that doesn't stop. Had I crashed the vehicle I'd only be out my deductible. Thanks Ford! I regret purchasing this vehicle after hearing of other owners experiencing the same issue, with no help from Ford on repairing a device thats meant to provide safety.

Standard day driving. Get in the vehicle start as normal. Drive 25 feet down the road, small hesitation, resistance to go forward for a moment. Abs light illuminates, warning beep occurs. Vehicle drives odd, brakes are weaker than normal. Service abs system illuminates on center panel. Moments later, service 4x4 system illuminates as another small hesitation resistance to roll occurs. Vehicle drives 'ok' but different. Drove it home safely from that moment.
