1 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 04/30/2015

Was driving to work in the morning. Had been in the car approximately 10 minutes when the abs, brake, and service brakes, indicators came on all at once. Depressed brake pedal only to discover that I did in fact not have any brakes. Turned on emergency flashers and began to merge over into right hand shoulder, repeatedly stomping on brake pedal. Was able to come to a stop. This incident happened while I was approaching a very busy 3-way intersection, off of a major highway. Turned car off and back on to see if this was a malfunction, but all three indicators came on again. Had vehicle towed to Ford dealership. Paid $5280. 03 in parts and labor to have faulty hydraulic unit repaired, and hcu and hybrid system bleed. Had not had any problems with this vehicle in the past. Very thankful that this incident did not cause an accident or injuries to myself or others.

2 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2012 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/06/2014

4/29/15 this escape was purchased 8/17/12 delivered with 35 miles, presently at 17532 was scheduled a week in advance, and to be serviced on 4/06/15, verbal/written consent to repairs. The mileage was 17532 at the time of delivery to inver grove Ford, an authorized Ford motor CO. Dealership. Please note, the vehicle has only been serviced at authorized Ford dealership's, and current in service records. Rear view camera, (works intermittedly) with black squiggly lines when vehicle is in reverse. Still under warranty. The moon roof has leaked and 3 attempted repairs were made within months of original purchase. The leak caused stains to the interior roof. The moonroof has never seeded properly and is under warranty. The electrical driver cockpit is unstable and works with periodic shortages. A Ford authorized/Ford part, remote starter installed, interior roof cover does not fix properly, was damaged with at time of the Ford part being installed at a Ford dealership. They tore the front hood, replaced it with a non fitting roof interior cover.

3 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/17/2013

The auto had just had the pump that cools the hydrid engine relaced at a cost of $590 when we moticed that there was a jerking in the steering wheel when stopped. The wheel would jerk to the right and left and make a "clucking" noise. Once the car was moving the jerking seemed to stop. But then we found that when we started the car there might be no power steering or power forward. The car would have to be forceably steered to the side and the engine turned off. Starting the engine again, the car had power steering and engine power. This began to happen nearly every time the car was started, and the jerking of the wheel every time the car was stopped at a traffic signal or stop. While the problem has yet to cause a dangerous situation the potential is certainly there should the same circumstances occur while driving. Having reviewed the web sites for problems with the 2008 escape there are literally dozens of similar complaints. One site lists nearly one hundred complaints exactly like mine and in some there have been accidents and potential injury. Ford is stonewalling everyone on this even when the mileage is less than 50, 000 miles. Often they say they know nothing of the problem and refuse to offer asssistance in meeting charges that range upward to $1700. Given the information that I now have I consider this to be very dangerous and am hesitant to drive the car. The lack of concern by Ford seems to me to be a serious matter and one that should concern NHTSA.

4 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 11/06/2010

A problem that surfaced again after experiences many times since the above mentioned incident date: a wrench sign was coming on the dashboard frequently, and sometimes disappeared itself without doing anything. Similar sign or indication for oil change was also experienced even after a scheduled oil change was done with the dealer. When the problem was reported in early period, I (the customer) was advised to disregard, because the mechanic forgot to reset after the oil service, when Ford customer service was notified today (11/7/12), it was acknowledged as a service issue, which I do not agree. Since the problem existed when the vehicle was new in early stages after the purchase, my concern is that this is a manufacturing defect with battery door which malfunctions, and does not allow ventilation on & off. The battery was down, all controls disappeared and the car was locked in position about two years ago (approximate June 2010). That time a major service was performed, which required a month long period to fix it. (safecar reference 365127). Unfortunately, I never heard back from your office on this past issue and complaint. Since both problems have to do with battery and monitoring devices, I would like to inform for safety of all using this model. Please let me know your findings on battery vent door functioning. Thanks.
