1 Equipment problem of the 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 07/13/2019

Over the past 3 years I have had the issue of 'stop safely now' on multiple occasions. These issues didn't start until the mec pump was replaced under a recall. After that my 2005 Escape Hybrid will shut down while driving or not start or cut out the hybrid power and run on engine only. I took it to the local Ford dealership where we have gotten all other service done three times for these issues. They haven't been able to tell me anything, stating only that there are no codes, so no idea where to look. I couldn't understand how the computer can know to tell me to stop driving the car, yet not record a dtc. It happened again on the first warm day of the summer - drove across town, parked it, came back 20 minutes later and it wouldn't start, showing 'stop safely now'. I left it until the next morning and it started right up and I drove it home. I went out and bought scanxl and used my laptop to scan the car. I found p1a10, p1a14, p0a0a, and p0a95. If I can buy some consumer program and find this info, way is Ford telling there are no codes? Ford also replaced the battery fans two years ago, stating they were covered under some recall or warranty. Searching the internet gets me 100's of comments on this stop safely issue with dozens of possible causes depending on the year and model. My scan tool shows a battery voltage of 665 volts, though it's supposed to be a 300 volt battery. The hybrid evaporator temp can range between 220 and 310 degrees f when it's running ok. That can't be normal. I have no idea what's going on and can't get any help from the Ford dealer.

4 Equipment problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/18/2018

The Ford repair service center has informed me the motor electronics coolant mec pump on my 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid has failed. The mec was part of a recall issued in September of 2014 for 2005-2008 Ford escpaes. The NHTSA campaign # is 14v526000. However, my VIN number was not listed on the recall. The dealership could not tell my why my vehicle was not included in the recall. I would like to have my vehicle added to the recall and would like to know how to go about doing so. Thank you.

6 Equipment problem of the 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 11/21/2018

Same as everyone else, very dangerous 'stop safely now' in the middle of highway traffic, managed to pull through it all and not die. It was cold and rainy outside while we waited for a tow truck on a narrow roadside. Brought to near by Ford dealership and they 'thought' it might be the DC to DC converter but were not sure about it, so rather than dropping $3 grand on a 'maybe' I got it towed back to my house. Where it now sits and won't start still has the same error message. I feel like it might be something small, other people have said they changed the DC to DC converter and its usually not the problem.

9 Equipment problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 02/01/2018

The regen breaks disabled light is always on. The breaks do not work properly, if at all. Numerous times I have been unable to stop almost causing an accident. The breaks sometimes lock on and the vehicle won't move at all. Unable to go more than 40 mph. If you attempt, the vehicle shakes and the breaks smoke. I took it to Ford for diagnostic and they informed me it is a common problem due to the the beak system and the hybrid system being integrated. The part by itself is $4200 and the vehicle blue books for about $3000 at the most. The vehicle won't start or even turn over. The battery is good.

11 Equipment problem of the 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 09/04/2017

I was driving in the fast lane on the highway at 70 mph when my car basically shut down and told me to "pull over safely". A red triangle (with the exclamation point in the center) appeared on the message board along with the "pull over safely" message and a chiming/alert sound. This was on labor day, so the highway was incredibly busy and it was very difficult to cross over lanes and "pull over safely". Additionally, when this message appears, it pretty much shuts down your car, not allowing you to accelerate at all which also made it more difficult to get over. I managed to pull over, turned off my car and then restarted it. That was all it took. No additional messages or problems. . . Yet. I probably had to drive an additional 30 miles or so home without any additional messages showing up. This seriously frustrated me as I have yet to be able to find much more information on the issue. It seems to be caused for a different reason for each person. I honestly do not know what genius at Ford thought it was a good idea to incorporate that feature into the vehicle. It was an extremely scary situation and put the safety of myself, those in my car, and the cars around me at a serious risk for our safety. In addition, it is very hard to feel safe driving in my car now, as I do not know when this will happen again or what will prompt it.

12 Equipment problem of the 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 08/12/2017

I was about 115 miles into a 130 mile trip, doing 70 mph on the interstate, when out of no where my vehicle jerked very hard and then started making loud sounds like parts falling out. All of the cars behide me had to slam on breaks and avoid hitting me. No lights or warnings had come on until after this happened. I steered the car off of the interstate and down the ramp into a store parking lot. The car was not running hot. Looked under car and oil was coming out all over the ground. A man looked and said it looked like the coolant system messed up and it through a rod in the motor block. I got the car one month ago and it was doing great. By looking up on type car there is others having problems like this and recalls on the coolant system. But no one on my VIN. Recall 14v526000.

13 Equipment problem of the 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 08/07/2017

I was driving to work when all of a sudden a yellow wrench light came on, my car shut down, and I had to coast across 3 lanes of highway traffic to stop on the shoulder. It wouldn't start at first, then I tried again and it started and drove the rest of the way just fine. I have read hundreds of complaints about the same issue. Apparently the throttle body has a defect getting open or closed, codes p2111 and p2112, respectively. This is very dangerous and I can't believe a recall hasn't been issued for this by Ford. I was already victim of another recall for the mep failing that caused the same thing to happen, complete system shut down. What kind of joke for a safe vehicle is this? I'm abhorred and will never buy another Ford, and I will make sure everyone I speak to knows how much Ford doesn't take care of their customers. They should be ashamed.

14 Equipment problem of the 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

My 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid has a problem with starting the ignition. It has been getting worse and worse for many months. I have to push it in and try over and over before the car starts. It also has so many of my warning lights on even tho the problems fixed or replaced.

15 Equipment problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 07/27/2017

I was driving on the interstate with my 2 year old and 4 year old in the car. I had been driving for about 45 min at interstate speeds, then slowed down to about 5-10 miles per hour due to traffic. All of a sudden, while slowly moving in traffic, a tone sounded, a red triangle appeared on the dash and the message center showed 'stop safely now'. The engine turned off, so the car stalled and stopped itself for me with no time to react. I was stuck in the middle lane of a 3 lane interstate and the car would not restart. It just kept the same message 'stop safely now', with the red triangle displayed. Eventually a road ranger assisted me to the side of the road by pushing my dead car while in neutral. I let the car sit and cool off over night and then was able to restart it in the morning with no issues at all. After reading online, the failure sounds identical to other Ford Escape Hybrid problems with the failure of the motor electronics coolant (mec) pump. There was a recall that covered my vehicle model production year model and location of production, NHTSA recall no. : 14v-526 manufacturer recall no. : 14s19. However, after inquiries with nhsta and Ford, both have told me that my VIN is not covered under the recall. There is no explanation that either entity will provide as to why my specific vehicle, with the same production date, location, and model as this recall, does not fall under this recall. I was never notified of any recalls when the recall was initiated either, if this had occurred less than a minute earlier, it would have caused a major accident and only by chance it occurred when traffic was moving slower, leaving time for other drivers to react to my stalled vehicle in the middle of the interstate.

16 Equipment problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 05/31/2017

While driving, the brake light and abs light came on. Message also showed on dash saying, "check brake system, regen brakes disabled. Took it to a local dealership who said the hydraulic control unit must be replaced at a cost of $5,600. Doing some research online showed that hundreds of customers have had or are having this problem. But as the dealership stated, sorry there's no recall. My vehicle is rendered useless and Ford refuses to stand by their product even though many customers have had this costly safety issue with the brakes.

17 Equipment problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 02/15/2017

While in motion, the gas engine cuts off and a red emergency triangle appears in the dash stating to "please stop safely now" and I have to coast along in electric mode with no power till I come to a stop. I then can turn off the vehicle and turn it back on and the vehicle runs as normal.

18 Equipment problem of the 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/05/2016

No crank, no start. Ignition switch or starter issue. Been going on for years. If I pushed in and giggled it would start for a while, now it will not start at all. I had to push so hard to start it, the key almost broke several times.

19 Equipment problem of the 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 10/20/2016

Displayed "stop safely now" while driving on interstate. I pulled over and turned engine off. Restarted and drove a few miles and received notice again. Repeated this cycle about 10 times before I was finally able to make it home. Had dealer service car and do a battery fan recall. Drove okay for a month but now I am getting the same error and having to shut the vehicle down and restart.

20 Equipment problem of the 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 10/01/2016

Open door warnings are constant when doors are not ajar and car is in motion. Dealer could not find the cause of this constant annoyance. This happens within minutes of the car being started.

21 Equipment problem of the 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 07/22/2016

I was driving at 55 mph on the highway and the wrench light came and following engine light , the car suddenly began to slow down , after that acerlation would not go more than 15mph, checked the code got p2112.

22 Equipment problem of the 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

Breaks failed. . Ford dealer said needs a new hydrolic unit etc for $5200. 00!! found info online that shows this should be a recall!!! big safety problem. . Please respond. . Help.

23 Equipment problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 02/25/2016

After approx. 10 minutes of stop and go driving at <5mph a tone sounded, a red triangle lit, and the led indicated "stop safely now. " the engine did not stall, shut down, or give any other indication of a fault, therefore I continued driving at <15mph to the nearest parking lot and turned off the engine. After I returned several hours later the engine started normally with no fault indication, and I was able to drive home without any further fault indication. I read on the web that this had occurred with other 2008 Escape Hybrids and was due to a faulty hybrid system electronics cooling pump. One complainant indicated that the 2008 Escape Hybrids had been recalled for this issue, but the recall does not show on your, or on Ford's, database for this vehicle. Has this been reported previously, and was there a recall?.

24 Equipment problem of the 2012 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 02/20/2016

I own a 2012 Ford escape and have had it in the shop over ten times. I have brought it in for transmission issues and check engine lights coming on. Multiple times they have gave me an oil change and cleaned the solenoids. My transmission still sputters and once again my check engine light has come back on. One time I lost complete power and was almost killed in an intersection. If anyone wants to take my car for testing they can. I don't know what to do anymore and am scared that someone is going to get killed. Ford needs to be held responsible for fixing this issue. I have heard from multiple sites that this is a huge issue. The engine has been described to me like a helicopter and when it shifts like I am a nascar driver.

25 Equipment problem of the 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/29/2016

Vehicle has 95,000 miles on it and the entire back passenger rear well is completely rusted out, so much so that the shock is pushing up into the inside of the vehicle. The rest of the wheel wells are fine and show very little wear and the vehicle runs just fine. When doing some research on this issue, it appears that a multitude of people are encountering this very same issue with just that same specific spot. My fear is that this makes this very unsafe to drive in the event I hit a large bump or pot hole.

26 Equipment problem of the 2011 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/02/2016

My husband simply shut the trunk of the car as we have a hundred times before and the rear window abruptly shattered. We were parked and stationary. We'd had snow in portland the day before but the idea that the window couldn't withstand that temperature is ridiculous. I've read online that an NHTSA investigation was launched in 2011 into these kinds of events but I do hope that something is done soon, especially since this could have been dangerous: we are thankful that our two daughters were standing clear of the car when it happened.

27 Equipment problem of the 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 11/04/2015

While backing out of my driveway, my power steering suddenly and completely went out. A dashboard light came on which read "power steering assist fault. " I drove to my Ford dealership and was told that my VIN was not on the recall list and the list was "VIN specific. " I was told by the dealership the part that needed replacement is the torque sensor which is one of the parts specifically mentioned in the recall for the 2009 escape. The NHTSA website called the recall 14s05. I have been told it will cost approx. $900. 00 to repair my vehicle.

28 Equipment problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 09/10/2015

Ignition had to turn several times take key in and out. Then one day just would not start. Vehicle was stationary.

29 Equipment problem of the 2011 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 07/10/2015

I was parking my Ford Escape Hybrid while moving back and forward I notice brake paddle jerk and paddle lost braking power.

30 Equipment problem of the 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/12/2015

I was driving on a state road at about 45 mpg when the car started to overheat, ac was not cooling as it was before the warning then a safety sign came on the dashboard to stop the vehicle safely. The next day (Saturday) I called greenway Ford dealership, colonial sr 50, FL and ask if there is a recall on my vehhicle and explained what happened. I was told yes there is a recall on the cooling pump/motor to bring in the vehicle on Monday. I paid for the vehicle to be towed on Monday at 7:30am as I was told not to drive it. I called the dealership to ensure that the vehicle was there and asked to be contacted once a diagnosis was done. No one called me until 4:30pm to pick up the vehicle. Two days later the vehicle warning sign came on again to safely stop the vehicle. I called the dealership again and I was told I can wait and see if it happens again which I did a couple weeks later and left a voice message. Two days ago, the same warning safety sign came on. Yesterday, I privately went to a mechanic to run a diagnostic, which had an error code of p1a10 - hybrid powertrain module -battery disabled. I went to the dealership as I had no return call from the manager mark foster. After 2 and 1/2 hours I was told that I have to replace the hybrid battery cooling fans as one is not working for a cost of $1,127. 26 when I inquired about the hybrid battery being disabled I was told by the manager and technician that the "battery is protecting itself from melting or catching on fire by disabling". The problem that existed prior to changing the cooling pump still exists and the Ford company nor the dealership is taking any responsibility.

31 Equipment problem of the 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 05/26/2015

The car stalls at low speed, such as stopped at light or slowing way down turning into drive way, car will just shut off, I put in park and restart the car. Can not ever tell when it will happen. Now the car is jerking as I am driving it at speeds of 40-45 mph and 60-65 mph. It seems to slip or missing shifting and jerks very hard. Are these two things related?. I took it into dealer and they told me they couldn't get the car to do that there, while running it while up on the lift. I want to know what I am supposed to do with this issue if I can not get it to do the same thing while at dealership and I can never know when it is going to happen while I am driving it. If this is going to keep happening, I do not want the car anymore and the deal will need to take it back.

32 Equipment problem of the 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 04/02/2015

Picked up my car from dealership, (recalled) electronic coolant pump replaced. Having dealt with the "stall-like condition" described in the safety recall notice 14s19 / NHTSA recall 14v-526, I was expecting the newly installed water pump to affect my car's recent performance. Fifteen minutes from the dealership, going 65 mph on the freeway, the pull over safely now message flashed. And then my car stalled. Makes me wonder if the safety recall listed the wrong replacement part.

33 Equipment problem of the 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/04/2015

I was driving on the 495 beltway (approx 55mph) in the right lane when suddenly my car lost power and the fail safe message appeared saying stop the car immediately. Fortunately, I was able to take a nearby exit off the beltway without injuring myself or someone behind me and causing a multiple car collision. A red triangle icon appeared on the dashboard including other lights and messages since the car had no power. I did have the car heater on due to winter temperatures. I immediately turned the car off and rested it and did not put my heat back on suspecting the electronic motor coolant pump as the problem after recently reading a nyt article. The car started about 10 minutes later. I made an appt w my Ford dealer to inspect the car for this problem. I had a similar problem last summer and was told by Ford that my VIN didn't have any recalls. I had the a/c on that day. Unfortunately, the recall for throttles only applies to Ford non-hybrid cars. There has only been a service bulletin to Ford mechanics and no recall for the electronics motor coolant pump. This incident scared me and I feel my car is unsafe to drive esp on interstate highways at high rates of speed until this problem is resolved.

34 Equipment problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/02/2015

The vehicles warning light symbolized as an orange/yellow wrench illuminates on and off throughout the day. On multiple occasions the vehicle has lagged in response to applying pressure to the gas petal to accelerate, or had delayed acceleration response. The issue is ongoing, and continual on a daily basis starting approximately on March 2, 2015.

35 Equipment problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/20/2015

The hydraulic control unit failed on my vehicle. This seems to be an issue that has arisen with a great deal of owners of Ford Escape Hybrids over the last several years. I had to have the entire hcu system replaced at a Ford dealership service department. As it was not covered by warranty, nor considered by the company to be an issue deserving of a recall, I had to pay out of pocket for the entire thing, which totaled $4,863. 00 (and it took five days to get the work completed). I also had to pay to rent a car for the several days it took to get the part and perform the work, which was another $200. 00. Due to the high cost of this repair and the frequency with which it is affecting consumers, I believe that this issue should become a recall and people should be reimbursed for the repairs they have had to make.
