Brake Abs Warning Light Problems of Ford Escape Hybrid - part 2

As I was driving down the road, the abs and 4x4 lights started going off, with the abs engaging erratically with no apparent reason due to climate or terrain. I called Ford dealer and they said either the axle or the brake hub would have to be replaced, at the expenses of hundreds of dollars just for the part, and likely hundreds more for labor! I then go online, however, a see a litany of complaints for the Ford Escape Hybrid and Mercury mariner spanning over the course of a decade - all with the exact same description of what I experienced. All the testimonials pointed towards a the faulty design of the tone ring that is used by the abs to gage driving conditions. Apparently, after a few years of driving, it tends to snap! this 5$ - $15 dollar part is then used for and an excuses for a repair that may spill over into thousands of dollars, while not to mention, endangering the driver and passengers of said vehicles. When I asked the dealer if they'd replace only the tone ring, they said they do not stock the tone ring only, but they do stock the brake hub and axle. This is obviously a dangerous manufacturing flaw, one that could put the safety of the driver at risk. I would hope the dot would strongly encourage Ford to correct this calamity by replacing the poorly designed tone ring with something durable, to better reflect the quality of product we'd like to expect from Ford, not to mention a general sense of concern for our wellbeing.

Driving about 35 and the abs light and anti skid light came on, when at slow speed the car started doing a chugging and then it went on battery. It did this all the way home. I am luckier than most my man is a mechanic an put it on the computer and it stated where the problem was. I also looked online and see hundreds of people complaining about the tone ring. In 5 months my 16 year old will be driving this car full time and now I am real concerned for her safety. Some one recall this tone ring, people are loosing brakes!!!!.

Driving up to a stop sign when I felt like I had no brake control to stop. I had to depress the pedal as far as I could and prayed that I would stop before the busy intersection. When I came to a stop, the service brake system code came on and chimed. The abs light was lit, along with brake warning. Luckily we were only a few blocks from the house, that we were able to carefully make it back home. After taking the vehicle in for a brake system warning before where they diagnosed a faulty wiring harness and replaced at my expense. Now that we were able to get the vehicle to the dealership they have stated that the hydraulic control unit was a problem and possibility of the master cylinder. All this at a cost of $4500+ parts and labor. After just finishing paying off the vehicle loan we own a vehicle that doesn't stop. Had I crashed the vehicle I'd only be out my deductible. Thanks Ford! I regret purchasing this vehicle after hearing of other owners experiencing the same issue, with no help from Ford on repairing a device thats meant to provide safety.

This is my second submission. This morning while driving to work the abs light came on along with a "check brake system" message and "regen brakes disabled". In the past when this happened I still had brakes but had to mash them down to get the vehicle to stop. This morning I was unable to stop the vehicle. My vehicle then went off the road and into a drainage ditch. The vehicle needed to by lynched out and towed to the dealership. I am thankful that I was only going about 30mph and ended up in a ditch rather than a busy intersection. This is a serious issue and I don't ever want to drive that vehicle again. I have 2 small children who I am thankful were not with me.

I was leaving the parking lot at my office and "service brake system" "service 4x4" and abs light all come on. It appears to be split tone ring - a well known issue with Ford Escape Hybrid if you search with google.

While driving my 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid, the warning chime sounded, "service brakes" flashed on the display, and I lost almost all of my braking power as I was coming up on a stop sign. I was barely able to stop. Later, after the car was turned off, the brakes were restored. This has occured several times in the last week. Each time I start the car, all is ok, as I accellerate, there is a clunk as if the engine wants to stall but keeps going due to momentum. A scan of system faults shows breaks all ok. I drive the car a few mile and the abs light comes on and the check breaks light comes on and stays on. Car still seems to run fine with abs light and check breaks indicator. But soft brakes are very woorysome.

Standard day driving. Get in the vehicle start as normal. Drive 25 feet down the road, small hesitation, resistance to go forward for a moment. Abs light illuminates, warning beep occurs. Vehicle drives odd, brakes are weaker than normal. Service abs system illuminates on center panel. Moments later, service 4x4 system illuminates as another small hesitation resistance to roll occurs. Vehicle drives 'ok' but different. Drove it home safely from that moment.

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid. The contact was traveling 50 mph when the abs warning light illuminated. The contact applied the brakes and there was a reduction of 80% braking power. The contact referenced technical service bulletin 10024326 (service brake: control unit module) and believed the failure to be the same. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 81,000. Updated 4/4/11 the repair shop installed a master cylinder. Updated 05/23/11.

The tone ring on the front passenger side split creating a pulsating sensation similar to the abs pulsating-however the abs warning light doesn't engage the stability sensor flashes for as long as the pulsating occurs. This only occurs while decelerating no matter what speed. I had the issue fixed. Then the issue appeared again in March 2013. I again took it to be fixed and after the mechanic replaced the cv axle and ring the issue still wasn't corrected and currently being investigated further. This issue is an annoyance and uncomfortable for any passengers riding in the vehicle that experiences this issue. The out of pocket costs associated with this problem are not 'cheap. ' Ford should address and provide a remedy to this problem that doesn't cause undue financial hardship to the owner.

While driving the "service brake system" light came on. Abs light also came on and the brake pedal did not respond normally and car pulled hard to the left when braking. When can was turned off and back on the abs light was off but the problem has recurred 2 more times. Car was taken to the dealership and was diagnosed with faulty master brake cylinder sensor.

The vehicle was inspected by the dealer who informed the contact that they were unable to perform a full diagnosis and was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000 and the current mileage was approximately 59,000.

Brakes serviced on 07/12/10 certified ok. Abs light on 07/21/10. Sheehy Ford; springfield, va service manager states, "not our fault your fault!" SUV has extended service warranty and vip member. Brakes certified as safe are unsafe.

I own a 07 Ford escape with 30,000 mile on it. Last week the abs brake system engaging when there is no need for it to. When stopping the vehicle on Jan. 28 2010 the vehicle began to buck badly. After stopping again at the next stop it bucked once more, as I drove off the abs light came on and the message center list both "service brake system" and service 4x4 system" I took the car to the dealership on Jan 29 and was told that the abs system tone ring for the left front wheel was defective and needed to be replace (cost $325. 00) I have found on the internet that this seem to be a common replacement part on Ford and Mercury of this model and year. I feel this is a problem that Ford should be recalling. (the dealership kept the old part).

My 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid have 140,000 miles on it for the past 3 weeks the abs light and the red triangle stop the car safely come on when I start the cat. I pull over shut the car off restart and all is well until the next time.

Ford Escape Hybrid 2008 check brake system message with abs lights on then got regen brakes disabled when pressing brake pedal prior to taking out of park. 41438 miles (just out of warranty of course) and just experience no brakes when I backed out. Brake system failure on 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid: highway driving, no braking during failure - abs light comes on with "service brake system" message on console. Took to dealer where they "diagnosed" master cylinder failure. Replaced master cylinder. 06 July 09 brake system failure on 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid: normal city driving under 35mph abs light comes on with "service brake system" message on console.

Complete brake failure. First time it occurred was on the interstate - 65 miles an hour and the brake light and the abs light came on and there was a beep. There were then no brakes at all. Luckily, I was able to get to the side of the road and coast to a stop. Turned off the truck and started it again and it had brakes. On this last incident, the same thing in the same order happened. Thankfully, my wife was able to get the vehicle to coast to a stop without hitting anyone or anything. This problem is very dangerous. It is intermittent thus making it hard to diagnose.
