1 Ignition Switch problem of the 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 05/03/2019

Car not starting because of a poorly designed ignition housing. The car sometinms doesn't start because it doesn't turn the ignition switch like it should. I got the replacement part from dealer and they said it is a common problem. So why is thre not a recall for the issue?.

2 Ignition Switch problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 11/07/2017

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. While driving approximately 35 mph and attempting to make a right turn, the vehicle's power began to decrease and the vehicle eventually came to a stop and lost all power. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle, but was unsuccessful. The vehicle was towed to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the ignition switch failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 146,000.

3 Ignition Switch problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

Over time my vehicle has gotten harder and harder to start. Now I have to press the keys in turn to have the vehicle start. After some research I found several users have the same exact problem. (https://youtu. Be/bv8tdcf83vc) it appears to be an issue with plastic clips used to hold the ignition switch in place. The mechanic in the video states that it's the rod that engages the switch, it becomes loose and requires you to push the key in to start the vehicle. This is poor design by Ford and places the onus on the customer to fix it.

4 Ignition Switch problem of the 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/06/2014

Sudden brake failure with no warning. Vehicle was initially traveling at 55 mph when a sudden stop was initiated by driver. Vehicle stopped as expected. Vehicle also stopped as expected 3 more times over next couple miles. However, when brake pedal was depressed prior to next turn (now from 45 mph), brake pressure was low, pedal travel was long, and vehicle did not slow. At this time 3 dash indicator lights illuminated: abs, brake pressure/emergency brake, and traction control. No warning chime or driver information message. Vehicle did begin to slow at slow rate once brake pedal was depressed all the way to floor. Issue remained for duration of 1/2 mile drive home. Vehicle was then parked, ignition switched off, then restarted after ~30 seconds. Warning lights went off, and brake pedal pressure was normal after restarting. Brake fluid reservoir level was okay. All systems fuction normal during 1 mile test drive. Vehicle has no history of brake problems.

5 Ignition Switch problem of the 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 08/27/2012

While traveling on an interstate hwy at 70 mph and passing a semi, the engine shut off and the stop safely now warning came on. There was no warning, I lost speed and barely moved out of the way of the truck. This failure almost cost me and my passenger our lives. The car started again about half an hour later but only ran long enough to limp to a gas station. We called aaa, had the car towed to a dealership where they diagnosed it as either the ignition switch or the pcm. . . I have two sons who are top mechanics. This is not the problem. They believe a wiring harness for the hybrid battery is defective, and that there was a letter sent to all hybrid owners. I took this letter to the local dealership when I received it. They said it didn't pertain to my vehicle and did not perform the required maint. Really? this is a serious safety hazard. How many accidents, deaths, or near misses must happen before Ford reacts and actually owns up? fyi blogging is out there for us all!.

6 Ignition Switch problem of the 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/30/2010

1. The events leading up to the failure - outside cold temperature. 2. The failure, how often it occurs, its consequences - the key is very difficult to disengage from the ignition without significant fiddling. It occurs every time the outside temperature drops to around 40 degrees (f) or lower. The consequences are (1) that the vehicle may slip into gear, roll anywhere and cause an accident if the key is left in the ignition. There is also the heightened possibility of vehicle theft and/or a broken key. 3. What was done to correct the failure; I. E, parts repaired or replaced (and if old part is available) - I contacted Ford via e-mail and their response was to take it to the dealer. . Read more...
