2 Wiper problem of the 2011 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/23/2018

One January 23, 2018, the rear window of my legally-parked 2011 Ford Escape Hybrid limited suddenly spontaneously exploded. Thousands of glass fragments went all over, narrowly missing a human and a dog, but there were no apparent injuries. The car was not moving at the time, but was legally parked and totally stationary.

3 Wiper problem of the 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/14/2016

The back window shattered at the gas station after I got gas and put air in the tires. As I slowly came to a roll my back window exploded in the gas station parking lot. Shattered into a million pieces. It's all over the ground at the gas station and the tiny pieces are all over the inside of my vehicle. The vehicle was barely in motion as I had not exited the gas station parking lot when it happened.

4 Wiper problem of the 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/25/2015

Car was parked in our carport overnight (12/24-25, 2015). When I came out the rear window was shattered. Most of the glass was outside the car, perhaps 5 percent was inside. No fallen branches, no sign of foul play, none of our other cars were damaged in any way. I looked up and found that similar incidents of "random rear window explosion" had been reported on Ford escapes, and that there was an active NHTSA investigation happening, so I wanted to add our incident to the list.

7 Wiper problem of the 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 10/15/2013

Driving at 8am between boulder, CO and longmont, CO, on October 15th, 2013. The temperature was around 30 degrees, which it had been around for the whole drive, about 45 minutes at that point. I had just come down from about 8000ft elevation to about 5000ft elevation (with a good bit of up and down and some bumpy roads in between), but had been at that elevation on city streets for about 15 minutes. There had been light snow in the mountains, but none once I was on the plains. I had been running my rear defrost off and on (though I didn't notice if it was on or off at the exact time of the incident), as well as heat and front defrost. I was traveling at about 30 mph on a smooth highway when I heard a very loud noise, then saw that my rear window was gone, completely shattered. I had opened the rear window to load the car before leaving.

8 Wiper problem of the 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 08/15/2013

Several times, over a period of 2 years, at low speeds (approx. 30 mph) abs and brake light come on with alarm sounds. Able to stop, but brakes not responding correctly, turned off ignition, restarted, everything ok. Then abs and brake light come on and won't go off, have brakes but they don't respond correctly, making the car very unsafe to drive. Go for diagnosis; afterward no brakes and hybrid assist message appears. Car is no longer operable. All brake incidents occurred on city streets or in driveway on starting. Diagnosis: master cylinder needs replacing and probably hydraulic control unit as well. Total cost for parts before labor $6,000,approximately the same as the value of the vehicle. The failure of these parts is apparently a common and well known problem that Ford refuses to address.
