Cruise Control Problems of Ford Escort

The contact states while parked with the engine off vehicle caught on fire. The vehicle had been sitting for over two hours. He smelled smoke and checked in the garage where the vehicle was parked. The fire was coming from under the hood in front of the steering compartment. The fire was extinguished by the fire department. The vehicle was totaled. There was extensive damage to the garage and the contact's house. The preliminary report indicated the fire started in the engine compartment. In Aug. 2003, I purchased a 2001 Ford Escort, only a short time after having it (2 weeks) vehicle engine died while at stop light. This has happened repeatedly, it is now November, and my local dealership has had my car more than I have since purchase in August. Continually tell me "there is nothing wrong with it. " they installed a device to monitor the times when it dies, they serve people have driven it and it has died on them, they continue to say they do not know how to fix it. Also, I have been on the interstate with cruise control set and vehicle suddenly accelerates. Have not gotten any satisfaction from my local dealer, they have put approximately 2500 miles on my car, more than I have had a chance to put on it!! I would like either a comparable car or a full refund. This has been very frustrating. I have even been told I exaggerated the severity! the engine stalled in the middle of an intersection of a busy street. This vehicle was still under warranty at the first hint of a problem, this has drug on for 3 months now, with still no answers, and I am afraid to drive my car.

When the vehicles cruise control was set the vehicle stalled which caused the engine light, fuel light and brake light to illuminate. The dealer inspected the vehicle but could not duplicate or correct the problem.

The cruise control stopped working/worked 5 times during the weekend of Nov 11, 2002. The first time it caused the speedometer to be erratic and then it started working. From the second time on, it caused the check engine light to come on and stay on. The second time it didn't work but it caused the speedometer to stick on 0 and the odometer to stop working. The 3rd time it also didn't work, but it caused the speedometer to peg out over 120 mph and the odometer stopped working. I had decided at that point to not try the cruise control again. The 4th time the cruise control seemed to kick in by itself for a few seconds, it caused the speedometer to be erratic, and then the cruise control stopped working again. The 5th time was the scarriest. It again try to kick in by itself, and this time it disabled the gas pedal. During this entire time I was driving the posted speed limit of 65 mph. I've stopped driving the car for right now. The cruise control seems to be too erratic and I don't want to get in a accident because of it. Dt.

While driving at any speed and whenever the gas pedal was depressed the vehicle revved, but did not accelerate. The consumer had this problem since buying the vehicle brand new. One transmission had been replaced by the dealer. The transmission hesitated and shifted harshly, there was a popping noise with the braking at all times, the plastic molding interior of the driver mirror was loose, there was a slow start when cold or damp weather is present,the vehicle would experience rough idle at the stop position, the cd player had been looked at three times, the cruise control was looked at three times and remained inoperative.

Cruise control quit working a few days later I blew a fuse for the brakes lights. I replace the fuse and blew that one. At this same time I noticed that I could not shut off the air conditioning. I will contact dealer next buisness day.

My cruise control did not turn off when I applied my brakes causing me to have a serious accident. I need to find out if this has happened to others.

Engine vibrates, and has a high idle. Engine runs rough and shakes. Engine surges and hesitates. Car stalls. I have had the vehicle in for this same repair several times since the purchase of it. The mechanics have replaced spark plugs, fuel guage, fuel filter, valve idle air control, vapor management, motor mounts. The dearlership in hillsborough replaced a cable something (the service manger quit and a ticket was not found for this repair. ) the vehicle continues to have same problem without being totally fixed. The last time I brought the car in for stalling, the repair was done, but the next morning the car continued to stall. As of this date, I am taking the car in for the same problem again. Please note: in reviewing the information after submittting I noticed that in # of failures passenger air bag deployed 8 times with the date of 7/24/98. This is incorrect, car was not in an accident and air bags were not used.

Poor pickup, poor interstate onramp speed, rough idle.

Vehicle vibrates terribly at stops signs, consumer was advised by mechanic that Ford is aware that this is a known problem,which is called "poor idle quality" and that a recall would probably go out soon to remedy the problem, consumer still has not received any recall notification and the vibation is intolerable and very loud.
