Speed Control Linkage problems of the 1997 Ford Expedition

Six problems related to speed control linkage have been reported for the 1997 Ford Expedition. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Speed Control Linkage problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2000

Throttle linkage binding.

2 Speed Control Linkage problem

Failure Date: 09/01/1999

Excessive effort has to be put on gas pedal in order to take off from a stop, which causes the vehicle to jump forward. Dealer has seen vehicle and said that it needed throttle linkage replaced.

3 Speed Control Linkage problem

Failure Date: 04/22/1998

While driving the throttle stuck, causing vehicle to increase in speed, resulting in a frontal accident, in which the driver's and passenger's side air bags did not deploy. Please provide further details.

4 Speed Control Linkage problem

Failure Date: 02/06/1998

Was leaving stop light when vehicle did not move. Suddenly it accelerated. Pedal released after pushing hard on it. Happens intermittently. Took to dealer & was informed that throttle linkage had to be cleaned & it's not under warranty.

5 Speed Control Linkage problem

Failure Date: 11/29/1996

Driving 65mph; had on cruise control; sign read slow to 45mph; applied brakes; cruise control did not release; pressed harder; brakes started smoking; put into neutral & coasted to side of road; rpm high. Called dealer & was sent tow truck & told cruise control cable snapped.

6 Speed Control Linkage problem

When trying to pass another vehicle, the throttle stuck and would not release when pressing the brake. Please describe further details.
