Ten problems related to tire have been reported for the 1997 Ford Expedition. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While traveling s/b at approx 70 mph on i5 in orange county CA, rr tire of 97 Ford Expedition suffered 360 degree tread separation. Loss of control, roll. Front passenger died. Driver lost three fingers. Definity dakota h/t, dot upcu pa7 1508 (cooper, findley plant). Doa 9/5/13.
Tire failure, causing immediate deflation while traveling at highway speed. Tires rotated and serviced 3 days before failure. Suspect possible defect with tires. All four tires subsequently replaced and still in possession, if needed. (tiresize: p265/70r17).
They have not fix my truck and I'm having a lot of problems contact them I'm in the military and due to transfer to jax, FL and my truck still is not fix, they want me to have a expert look at the tire and I don't have the money for and expert so they told me I have 45 days before the drop my file. Help.
I understand that there is an inquiry concerning the safety of the above mentioned tires. On 11/03/00 I had preventative maintenance completed on my vehicle (oil change/tire rotation). The service representative advised me that my tires were becoming "choppy". He showed me by running my hand over the surface of the tire. The tire was not smooth, but in certain areas it appeared that the tire was raised. I felt that this condition was odd since I would believe that the tread would wear smoothly during continued operation. Understanding the concern about tread seperation, and not being an expert, I suspected that this may be occurring. I sent a mesage to the customer service section of goodyear and was advised that 39,000 was the life expectiancy of those tires. I disagree and felt their explantation was unacceptable. I advised goodyear that it was intent to file a complaint with your organization. My concern is for the safety of my family and that of the other motorist. Thank you all for your assistance. Tire was only on the vehicle for 2 months prior to the "blowout". Tire had less than 2,000 miles in service. Tire disintigrated with no warning. No hazards observed in road. Believe it was a classic tread separation. Defective product. Good news was that no one was injured. (tiresize: p265/70r17)( dot number: tire size: p265/70r17 ).
The goodyear wranglers rts tires are original equipment on the Ford Expedition, they have a tendancy to hydroplane on wet roads. Expierenced major loss of control in a rainstorm traveling at 25mph on a 45mph road. Entered a slight curve, no steering response vehicle proceed to head straight until comming in contact with a concrete bicycle path,in which forced the vehicel to turn abrubtly, hydroplaning again going across two lanes until driver regained control. Tires show no major wear, no uneven tread or any defects. These stock goodyear tires also produce major vibrations at highway speeds. Ford should not use these tires as original equipment tires. Tires are very dangers on wet pavement. They vehicle becomes very slippery. After the tire have 5 to 10k miles. I understand that the tire in question was made originally for the for the Expedition by good year only, and now other manufactures has it. Please try it out and let me know. My wife almost got in a big accident because of that, and my self been very close to it many times. Thanks julio( dot number: tire size: 255-70-16 ).
Tires used on vehicle are not for snow/icy conditions, studded snow tires are not available for 17'' wheels.
Two cracks in cast alloy wheel caused the tire to lose air .
Tire moving around rim/wheel. Manufacture wants to 'glue' tire to the rim. I suggested possible rim or tire defect, needs replacement. . . . Not a "glue" bandaid. ( dot number: ).
