14 problems related to brake electric antilock have been reported for the 1998 Ford Expedition. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact stated when applying the brakes at low speeds the pedal will go to the floor, and vehicle will vibrate. When this happens the vehicle will not stop. There are no warning lights indicating a problem with the brakes. This happens intermittently, with no specific pattern or conditions. The dealer said this was normal performance for this vehicle.
When the brakes were applied, the pedal pulsated which caused the extended stopping distance. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealership once a year dealing with the issue, however the problem continued to occur. Please provide further details.
4wheel abs dangerous long stopping distance. Ended up in ditch. Subsequently measured stopping distance on dirt road at 30 mph. Stopping distance measured 70 feet with abs enabled. Stopping distance measured just 45 feet with abs disabled (brakes fully locked up in both cases). Abs design needs to be changed to shorten stopping distance under typical "dry road" conditions.
When consumer applies brake pedal, there is considerable resistance. Vehicle stops only after reapplying the brake. This vehicle has anti-lock brake system.
Braking system went into skid of own volition, caused vehicle to crash and driver to be injured. Anti-lock brake problem noted in past but dealerships refused to repair.
These are areas that have had an impact on other components of the vehicle such as tire wear, and brakes. My mechanic stated this is a recurring problem with Ford motor that should be addressed.
Torsion bar on passenger's side corroded, causing vehicle to drop. Also, experienced problems with the steering & braking. Was informed by mechanic it was a bad casting. Nothing happened on the driver's side.
Dt: when the brakes are depressed, the abs system prevents the brake from engaging. After pumping the brake pedal several times, the brakes re-engage. Generally happens more often when the outdoor temperature is around thirty-two degrees fahrenheit. Dealer stated that no problem could be found.
When applying brakes to come to a stop, vehicle will accelerate as if the gas pedal is being depressed. It is an intermittent problem and only occurs when coming to a complete stop. Surge continues as long as pressure is applied on the brakes, and stops when brake pedal is released and the car is put into neutral. Took vehicle to dealer, unable to find problem.
When driving at a very slow speed andcoming to a stop light applied the brakes, and abs system kicked in, and brake pedal went straight to the floorboard. Consumer has to step on the parking barke for vehicle to slow down.
While driving vehicle suddenly accelerated. Applied brakes and vehicle would not stop, causing vehicle to crash. Dealer cannot determine the cause. Please provide further information.
When applying the abs brakes on an incline and holding the pedal for a few seconds, the pedal will slowly go to the floor, cause unknown. Please give any further details.
While making a stop by depressing the brakes pedal the vehicle continues to travel. Please provide further details.
While traveling and applying the brakes they locked up, causing the vehicle to slide, resulting in an accident. Please provide further details.
